1. Login and Joining
Your first five minutes: enter your mobile number and tap Send OTP; type the 6-digit code from the SMS; if you are new, enter your full name; open the Samaj tab and join your Samaj with your caste and native village (you can also do this later); your Samaj admins approve you if needed, and then everything in your Samaj opens up.
1.1Login with mobile number
How do I log in to KuhuChat?
- Open the app. If you are not signed in, the Welcome to KuhuChat screen appears.
- Type your 10-digit mobile number in the Mobile Number box. +91 is already filled in.
- Tap Send OTP.
- A 6-digit code arrives by SMS and the Verify OTP screen opens (see 1.2).
There is no password and no username.
Is login different from signing up?
No, it is the same flow. If your number has no account yet, one is created after you verify the OTP and enter your name.
Which numbers can I use?
Indian mobile numbers only. Enter exactly 10 digits starting with 6, 7, 8 or 9. If something is wrong you will see one of these messages:
- Please enter your phone number.
- Enter a 10-digit mobile number.
- Enter a valid Indian mobile number starting with 6-9.
Can I log in with email, Google or Facebook?
No. Your mobile number is your login and your identity in KuhuChat.
The OTP did not come. What do I do?
- Check that the number is correct and that your phone has a signal.
- Wait a minute or two. SMS can be slow.
- Tap Resend OTP once the countdown ends (see 1.2).
- "Too many attempts. Please wait a few minutes before retrying." Wait, then try again.
- "SMS quota exceeded for today. Please try again later." Try again later.
- "No internet" means check your connection and retry.
- "Invalid phone number" means re-check the digits.
Does login cost money?
KuhuChat does not charge for it. The screen reminds you that standard SMS rates from your mobile operator may apply.
Can I log in on a computer or in a browser?
Yes. Open KuhuChat in a browser (Chrome or Edge recommended) and use the same mobile number and OTP.
Do I have to log in every time?
No. You stay signed in on your device until you log out or delete your account.
What language is the login screen in?
The language you last chose in the app. If you have not chosen one, it is English (see 2.1).
What is my number used for?
It is your account ID. KuhuChat also stores a one-way scrambled (hashed) copy of it, which is used to match people in your contacts. Your contacts are synced in the same hashed form.
1.2OTP verification
What is the OTP?
A 6-digit one-time code sent by SMS to prove the number is yours.
How do I verify it?
- On the Verify OTP screen, the message "We sent a 6-digit code to +91..." shows your number.
- Type the 6-digit code from the body of the SMS. Do not type the sender's number.
- It verifies automatically after the sixth digit. You can also tap Verify.
Does the app read the SMS for me?
No. Type the code yourself. Always enter the most recent code you received.
How does Resend work?
After you request a code, a 4-minute countdown starts ("Resend code in 4:00"). When it reaches 0:00, Resend OTP becomes active. Tap it: the box clears, a new code is sent, you see "OTP resent successfully.", and the countdown restarts.
I typed the wrong number on the first screen.
Tap the back arrow at the top of the Verify OTP screen, correct the number and tap Send OTP again.
What do the error messages mean?
- "Wrong OTP. Please check and try again." The code you typed does not match. Re-enter it, or resend and use the newest code.
- "Verification failed. Please try again." Check your internet and try again.
- "Sign-in failed. Go back and retry." Go back, send a new OTP and try again.
- "Something went wrong. Please try again." Try once more.
- "Resend failed. Please try again." or "Could not resend OTP." Wait a moment and tap Resend OTP again.
What happens after the OTP is correct?
If your number already has a profile with a name, you go straight to the home screen on the Contacts tab. If it is a new number, you are asked for your name (see 1.3).
Why do my chats take a moment to appear after I log in?
At login, KuhuChat clears the chat and contacts copies saved on that phone and loads them fresh from your account. This keeps one person's data from showing up in another person's account on a shared phone. Your messages themselves are not deleted.
1.3Name setup and first-launch checks
What does the first screen after verifying ask?
"What's your name?" with the note: This is how contacts and groups will see you. You can join your Samaj later from the Samaj tab.
How do I finish it?
- Type your Full Name. It cannot be left empty ("Please enter your name").
- Tap CONTINUE.
- You land on the Contacts tab.
Who sees this name?
Your contacts and the groups you join.
Do I have to join a Samaj now?
No. You can chat with contacts right away and join your Samaj any time from the Samaj tab (see 1.4).
What does my account look like at this point?
It is a basic account with your name and number. It is marked "temporary" until you join a Samaj.
What happens in the background after I sign in?
KuhuChat may sync your phone contacts so it can show which of them are on KuhuChat. This happens automatically and at most about once every 12 hours.
- Only scrambled (hashed) numbers are used for matching.
- If you decline contacts permission, the sync is skipped and chats still work.
- The browser version cannot read your phone's contacts. It shows the contacts your phone has already synced.
I see "Could not load profile. Check your connection."
The app could not reach the server in time. It waits about 6 seconds on the app and about 15 seconds on the web. Check your internet and tap Retry.
I see "Error loading profile."
Tap Retry first. If it keeps happening, log out and log in again.
I see "This account is banned."
The account was blocked for breaking KuhuChat's rules. The screen shows the reason (for example "Rules violation") and a Logout button. A banned account cannot use the app. If you think this is a mistake, contact us from the Contact page.
Why does my name screen reappear?
It appears whenever the number has no profile name saved. Complete it once and it will not appear again.
1.4Join your Samaj
What is a Samaj?
Your community, grouped by caste (and subcaste) and native village. Joining connects you to your Samaj members, your family tree, matrimony matches, the community gallery, the radar and the Samaj chat.
Where do I join?
Tap the Samaj tab. If you have not joined, the Join Your Samaj screen opens by itself, with the text "Tell us your village and caste to find your Samaj members, family tree, and matrimony matches."
Step by step, how do I join?
- Choose your caste. Tap the Caste / Samaj box and search by name. Alternate names work too.
- Choose your subcaste. This step appears only if your caste has subcastes, and then it is required.
- Choose your location. For most castes pick State, District, Taluka, then Native village. For taluka-based castes pick State, District and Taluka; your ancestral village can be added too.
- Tap JOIN SAMAJ.
Which village should I pick?
Your native (ancestral) village, where your family originally comes from. It decides which Samaj group and family tree you belong to.
What if I cannot find my village in the list?
- Tap Search & pin on map. The Find your place sheet opens.
- Choose your State, then type your village, taluka or district name.
- If it is not there you will see "Place not found in our list." Tap Add it manually.
- Enter the village or place name and District. Taluka is optional.
- Drop a pin on the map. A pin is required to confirm.
- Optionally add your full address, then tap Confirm.
What messages might stop me?
- Please select your caste.
- Please select your subcaste.
- Please select your village location.
- Please select your native village.
- Please select your district and taluka.
Will I be approved immediately?
The first 3 members of a village are approved straight away. From the 4th member on, you join as Pending until one of your village admins approves you (see 1.5).
Will I become an admin?
You become an admin automatically if you are one of the first two members of your village, or if your village has no admin at all. Otherwise you join as a regular member.
Will other villages be in my Samaj too?
Possibly. Villages of the same parent caste can be merged into one Samaj group. Your Samaj name at the top of the Samaj tab then shows the combined group.
Can I change my village or caste later?
Yes.
- On the Samaj tab, tap the three-dot menu and open Profile. (The Profile opened from the Contacts or Social tab is a shorter version without the Caste card.)
- On the Caste card, tap the edit icon. The edit icon on the Location card does the same.
- Read the warning. To continue, type CONFIRM.
- Wait for the reset to finish. The registration form opens again.
- Choose your new caste and village and tap JOIN SAMAJ.
What gets deleted when I change my Samaj?
Only things tied to your old Samaj:
- Your family tree is deleted, and your relatives' entries about you are marked removed.
- Your matrimony profile and its interests are deleted.
- Your admin seat, admin applications and your pending merge or separation votes are removed.
- Your relatives are told that you left the tree.
What is not touched?
Your chats, contacts, wall and gallery posts, radar pins, businesses, trips and reminders.
1.5Membership approval and status
What do the statuses mean?
- Temporary: you have not joined a Samaj yet.
- Permanent: you are an approved member.
- Pending (shown as Pending Approval): an admin has not reviewed you yet.
- Needs verification: an admin asked you to confirm your identity.
- Rejected: admins turned down your request.
Why is my Samaj tab greyed out?
Your status is Pending, Needs verification or Rejected. In the Samaj tab the top bar and icon row are greyed out and cannot be tapped, and the member list is greyed too. Your Contacts tab and chats keep working. Everything unlocks once you are approved.
Who approves me?
Your village's admins, up to 3 of them. They see you on their Pending Members screen, showing your name and how long ago you joined.
How do admins decide?
- Verify Member: one admin can approve you. You become Permanent.
- Ask to Verify: an admin asks you to prove your identity. Your status becomes Needs verification.
- Reject: this is a vote. Two different admins must reject before you are rejected. After the first vote the admin sees "Reject vote recorded (1/2). One more admin needs to reject."
An admin asked me to verify. What do I do?
The screen lists your village admins with their names and phone numbers. Call or message any of them and confirm who you are. They will tap Verify Member once satisfied.
How do I get approved faster?
Contact one of your village admins directly and tell them you have just joined. Approval happens when an admin acts on your request.
I was rejected. What now?
The registration form opens again with a message, for example: "Admins of [VILLAGE] rejected your request. You can try [VILLAGE] again (chance 2 of 3) or register in another village." You have 3 chances per village.
What happens after the 3rd rejection?
You see: "Admins of [VILLAGE] rejected you 3 times. Please register in another village." Pick a different village and register there. The limit applies only to the village that rejected you.
Can I still chat while I am pending?
Yes. Chatting with your contacts and groups, reminders, the Toolbox and the other tabs keep working. Only the Samaj tab's top bar, its icon row and the Samaj member list are locked.
Who are the admins in my village?
Up to 3 per village. They are chosen automatically when the village starts, and more admins can be added through admin applications and votes.
2. App Basics and Settings
Language, the home screen and its four tabs, notification badges, push notifications, theme, sounds, logout, deleting your account, large screens and home-screen icons.
2.1App language
Which languages does KuhuChat support?
13: English, Hindi (हिन्दी), Gujarati (ગુજરાતી), Marathi (मराठी), Bengali (বাংলা), Tamil (தமிழ்), Telugu (తెలుగు), Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ), Malayalam (മലയാളം), Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ), Odia (ଓଡ଼ିଆ), Assamese (অসমীয়া) and Urdu (اردو).
How do I change the language?
- Open the Samaj, Contacts or Social tab.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Language.
- Tap your language.
The whole app switches immediately and the list closes by itself. You do not need to restart.
What if I cannot read the language names?
Each language is written in its own script with the English name underneath (for example "ગુજરાતી" with "Gujarati" below). Look for the English name if you cannot recognise the script. A tick mark shows the language you are using now.
I am on the Business tab and cannot find Language.
The Business tab's menu is shorter (Refresh, Home screen icons, About, Logout). Switch to the Samaj, Contacts or Social tab and use the three-dot menu there.
Which language does the app start in?
English, until you choose another one.
Will my choice be remembered?
Yes. It is saved on your phone and stays after you close the app. If you move to a new phone or reinstall the app, choose your language again.
Does changing my language change what other people see?
No. It only changes how the app looks on your device. Messages, posts and names appear exactly as people wrote them.
Are family relation names translated too?
Yes. The kinship names used in the Family Tree (for example father, jeth) show in your chosen language. There are 103 relations in all 13 languages.
2.2Home screen and the four tabs
What are the four tabs at the bottom?
- Samaj: your community, with members, family tree, matrimony, gallery, radar and your business.
- Contacts: your phone contacts who are on KuhuChat, and your private chats.
- Social: your groups (the Social Circle).
- Business: the Business Circle, a directory of businesses.
Which tab opens first after login?
Contacts. You can start chatting before you join your Samaj.
What do I see at the top of the Samaj tab?
- Wall brick icon (left): opens your personal wall and shows a count for new activity.
- Your Samaj name (centre): your village, or a combined label if your village is merged with others. Tap it to open Village Connection.
- Megaphone: your Voice Status for your Samaj, and the voice messages left for you (see Chapter 16).
- Magnifier: search your Samaj.
- Toolbox icon: opens the Toolbox.
- Three-dot menu: the menu.
What are the six icons under the Samaj top bar?
- Family Tree: shows a badge for family notifications.
- Matrimony: shows a badge for new interests.
- Gallery: shows a badge for new photos. Admins also see posts waiting for approval.
- Camera: takes a photo or video and drops it as a pin for your Samaj.
- Radar: shows a green number for pins near you. Tap to open the radar. Long-press to set the radius.
- Business bag: opens your business. It turns green once your business has a name and at least one product with a photo and price.
How do I change the Radar radius?
- Long-press the Radar icon.
- A sheet called Nearby Pin Radius opens.
- Pick your distance in km. The green number only counts Samaj pins within this distance.
What is in the other tabs' top bars?
- Contacts: wall brick, title, megaphone (your Contacts Voice Status), search, toolbox and the menu.
- Social (Social Circle): search, toolbox and the menu.
- Business (Business Circle): a header noting that businesses are verified with 2+ govt. credentials, plus the toolbox and the menu.
What are the round floating buttons?
- Mitra, the star button (on Contacts, Samaj and Social), opens Mitra. It holds Relation Analysis for your chats and your Thread Diary (see Chapter 15).
- Trip (on Contacts and Samaj) opens the Trip Planner.
They hide automatically while you have a chat open.
What is inside the three-dot menu?
- Samaj, Contacts and Social tabs: Profile, App Theme, Notification Sound, Language, Blocked Users, Reminders, Home screen icons (on phones that support it) and Logout. On the Samaj tab, admins also see Manage Admins. The Social tab's menu also has New Group.
- Business tab: Refresh, Home screen icons, About and Logout.
I tapped Samaj and a registration form opened. Why?
You have not joined a Samaj yet, or your request was rejected. Complete the form (see 1.4). The tab then opens normally.
Why does my Samaj name show several villages?
Your village group has been merged with other villages of the same caste. The label shows the combined group.
Can I use KuhuChat on a tablet, browser or large screen?
Yes. On screens wide enough (about 700 px or more) the app shows a split view with the list on the left and the open chat on the right. Until you pick a chat, the right side shows a "start a chat" placeholder.
2.3Notification badges and app-icon count
What do the numbers on the tabs mean?
They count things that need your attention. Each tab shows the total of its own items. A number above 99 shows as 99+.
What counts on each tab?
- Contacts: unread private chats, new posts and approvals on your wall, activity on your contacts' walls, new radar pins from contacts, voice messages left for you in Contacts, and contacts with a status you have not heard.
- Samaj: unread community chats, your wall, activity on Samaj members' walls, new radar pins from members, gallery items, new matrimony interests, family tree notifications, voice messages left for you in Samaj, and members with an unheard status.
- Social: unread group chats.
- Business: no badge.
What does the number on my phone's app icon mean?
It is the total of all tab badges added together. Your own wall is counted once, even though it appears on two tabs.
How do badges go away?
- Chat unread: opening the chat.
- My wall: opening your wall. Posts waiting for your approval stay counted until you approve or reject them.
- Another person's wall activity: opening that person's wall.
- New radar pins: viewing that person's pins.
- Gallery, new approved posts: opening the Gallery.
- Gallery, waiting for approval (admins): an admin approves or rejects the post, or it is published automatically. Opening the Gallery does not clear it.
- Matrimony: tapping the Matrimony icon.
- Family Tree: opening the Family Tree.
- Voice message left for you: listening to it.
- Unheard status: listening to that status.
Why is my wall badge counting posts I have not seen?
New posts on your wall start as pending and need your approval. They count for you until you approve or reject them. They only appear to others once approved.
Which badges do not count on the tabs or app icon?
Three badges show only inside their own screen: the Radar's live "pins near me" number (it changes with your radius), the Interests tab count in the Matrimony dashboard, and the pending merge requests count in Village Connection.
Why did a badge change by itself?
The wall and pin counters are re-checked every hour. Wall posts from the last 15 days and pins from the last 30 days are included. Older pins count as already seen.
What if someone deletes an unread message?
If an unread message is deleted for everyone, the receiver's unread number goes down.
The number on my app icon looks wrong.
Some phones (for example Xiaomi) show the number of notifications still in the notification shade. When you return to KuhuChat, it clears its old notifications and sets the exact total again. If the app is fully closed, the icon shows your phone's own notification-based number until you open the app.
2.4Push notifications
What will KuhuChat notify me about?
- New private, group and Samaj chat messages.
- A new post on your wall, and wall posts approved on a wall you follow.
- New gallery posts and newly approved gallery posts.
- New radar pins from contacts or your Samaj.
- Family tree relation requests and changes.
- Matrimony interests: sent, resent, accepted, rejected and unmatched.
- Group invites.
- A voice status posted by someone, and a voice message left for you.
- Your reminders.
- A Diary thread deleted by its owner.
What happens when I tap a notification?
- Private message: opens the Contacts tab, then that chat.
- Group message: opens the Social tab, then that group chat.
- Samaj chat message: opens the Samaj tab, then that chat.
- Family tree request: opens the Family Tree at that request.
- Radar pin: opens that pin.
- Wall activity: opens the wall.
- Group invite: opens the app home.
- Reminder: opens the Reminders screen.
- Voice status or voice message: opens that person's status screen.
This works even if the app was fully closed.
How do I choose my notification sound?
Open the three-dot menu, tap Notification Sound, and use the Notification tab. The options are Kuhu (long), Koel (short) and Phone default. Tap the play button beside a sound to preview it.
Do reminders use the same sound?
No. Reminders have their own sound settings, so changing one never changes the other. The reminder options are Cuckoo Clock, Koel (long) and Phone default. They are set on the Reminder tab of the same screen. Reminders use longer sounds on purpose, so you do not miss them.
What happens when a reminder has a voice note?
Tap the notification and the voice note plays. If you tap a second reminder while one is playing, the first stops so they do not overlap.
Do I get notifications while I am inside the app?
Yes. They still show, and they use the right sound for what they are. A reminder uses your reminder sound, and a chat message uses your notification sound.
What is "delivered" on my sent messages?
When your message reaches the other person's phone, the app marks it as delivered. You see the status tick on your side.
I am not getting notifications.
- Check that notifications are allowed for KuhuChat in your phone settings.
- Make sure you have internet.
- Check that your phone is not muting or restricting KuhuChat in battery-saver settings.
- Log out and log in again if it still does not work.
2.5Theme and appearance
How do I change the app's colour?
- Tap the three dots and choose App Theme.
- Pick a colour tab: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Teal, Blue, Purple or Grey.
- Tap a colour.
The colour applies everywhere immediately and a "Theme updated!" message appears. There are 94 named colours, such as Rose Red, Saffron, Sunflower and Maroon.
What is the Intensity slider?
It fine-tunes your chosen colour. The default is the original shade, sliding toward Lighter makes it paler, and toward Darker makes it deeper. The slider has 24 steps.
What is AppBar Style?
It chooses how the top bar looks.
- Colored: the bar uses your chosen colour.
- White: the bar is white with dark text and icons, and your colour is used as the accent.
What does the preview show?
A small preview card shows how your choices look before you leave the screen.
How do I go back to the original look?
Tap Reset to Default. It returns the app to Saffron.
Will my theme be remembered?
Yes. It is saved on your phone and kept after you close the app. It is not shared between devices, so set it again on a new phone.
Does my theme change what others see?
No. It only changes your own screen.
Is there a dark mode?
Not at the moment. KuhuChat uses a light look, and you choose the colour and the top-bar style.
Does the theme change the phone's status bar?
Yes. The status bar and navigation bar icons adjust to match your colour or the white top bar so they stay readable.
2.6Sound settings
Where do I change sounds?
Tap the three dots on the Samaj, Contacts or Social tab and choose Notification Sound. The Sound screen has two tabs: Notification (chat messages) and Reminder (your reminders).
Which notification sounds can I choose?
Kuhu (long), Koel (short) and Phone default. Kuhu is selected until you change it. Tap the play button beside a sound to hear it. Phone default has nothing to preview because it uses your phone's own sound.
Which reminder sounds can I choose?
Cuckoo Clock, Koel (long) and Phone default. Phone default is selected until you change it. Cuckoo Clock and Koel can be previewed with the play button.
Is there a shortcut to the reminder sound?
Yes. On the Reminders screen, tap the music-note icon. The Sound screen opens directly on the Reminder tab.
Do I need to save my choice?
No. Your choice applies the moment you tap it.
Will the sound play when the app is closed?
Yes. Your choice is saved on your phone and on KuhuChat's server, so notifications that arrive while the app is closed use the sound you picked.
Does changing the notification sound change my reminders?
No. The two settings are separate on purpose.
2.7Logout
How do I log out?
- Tap the three dots at the top right of any tab (or the three dots on My Profile).
- Tap Logout.
- Confirm "Are you sure you want to logout?" by tapping Logout again.
You return to the login screen.
What happens when I log out?
KuhuChat clears the chat and contact copies saved on that phone, stops any business location alerts for your account, and signs you out. Your messages, posts and account stay safe on your account and come back when you log in again.
Why is this useful on a shared phone?
Nothing from your account stays behind for the next person who logs in on the same phone.
Will I lose my data if I log out?
No. Logging out is not deleting. Log in again with the same mobile number to continue where you left off.
2.8Delete account
How do I delete my KuhuChat account?
- On the Samaj, Contacts, Social or Business tab, open the menu at the top right.
- Tap the red Delete Account button near the bottom.
- Read the warnings.
- Decide what happens to your posts (see the next question).
- Type DELETE in the box. The red button only becomes active when the word matches.
- Tap Permanently Delete Account.
What happens to my posts, gallery photos and radar pins?
By default they are deleted. If you tick the box "Keep my posts, gallery photos and pins for my Samaj", they stay for your Samaj and show as "Deleted user", with no name, photo or phone number. The Review my pins button lets you look at your pins before you decide. Your own wall and your Diary threads are always deleted.
What is deleted?
- Your profile, login, reminders, trips, Mitra chats and contacts.
- Your family tree entries, matrimony profile, admin applications and votes. If you are a village admin, the admin seat is handed over.
- Your group memberships. A group is deleted when its last member leaves.
- The messages you sent in group and Samaj chats.
- Your private one-to-one chats, for both people.
- Your wall, your Diary threads and, unless you chose to keep them, your gallery posts, your posts on other walls and your radar pins.
- Your business in Business Hub, and your follows of other businesses.
- Your group hotel requests.
- The photos, videos and voice notes behind all of the above.
What is kept?
Hotel booking and payment records are kept because the law and accounting rules require it. KuhuChat also keeps one small log entry with no personal details. Star ratings you gave to other businesses are not removed yet.
What happens to my phone and the home-screen icons?
When the delete finishes, KuhuChat clears the chats and contacts saved on your phone, signs you out and returns to the login screen. The three extra home-screen icons (KuhuTools, KuhuBiz Search, KuhuTrip) are switched off. See Chapter 24 for the full details.
What happens to my chats with other people?
Private one-to-one chats are deleted for both of you. This also stops a phone number that is given to someone new later from opening your old conversation. Copies that other people saved, forwarded or screenshotted are theirs and are not removed.
I see "Could not finish" or "Deletion is already running".
Your login is removed last, so nothing is lost if a step fails. Sign in again and tap delete again. A very large account can take several minutes. If you see "already running", wait a few minutes and try once more.
Can I delete my account from a browser?
Yes. Open app.kuhuchat.com/delete-account, log in with your mobile number and OTP, and follow the same steps.
Where can I read more about deleting?
Chapter 24 explains every step, what is deleted and kept, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Can I get my account back?
No. Deleting is permanent. You can create a new account with the same number later, but it starts empty.
Can I ask you to delete it instead?
Yes. Use the Delete account page on this website and follow the email option.
Should I just log out instead?
If you only want a break, log out. Deleting is for when you want everything removed.
2.9Using KuhuChat on a browser, tablet or large screen
How does KuhuChat look on a large screen?
On screens about 700 pixels wide or more, the Contacts, Social and Samaj tabs show two panes. The list is on the left and the open chat is on the right. Until you pick a chat, the right side says "Select a chat to start messaging".
Can I use KuhuChat in a browser?
Yes. Open it in Chrome or Edge, log in with your mobile number and OTP, and use it like the app.
What is different in a browser?
- A browser cannot read your phone's contacts, so it shows contacts your phone has already synced.
- Some phone-only features, such as the home-screen icons, are not available.
Does my chat sync between phone and browser?
Yes. Both use the same account.
2.10Home-screen icons and the Toolbox icon
What are the extra home-screen icons?
On Android phones, KuhuChat can add up to three extra icons next to the main app icon: KuhuTools (the Toolbox), KuhuBiz Search (business search) and KuhuTrip (the Trip Planner). The main KuhuChat icon always stays.
How do I turn them on or off?
- Tap the three dots and choose Home screen icons.
- Switch on or off KuhuTools icon, KuhuBiz Search icon or KuhuTrip icon.
When you switch one on, a message confirms "Icon added".
How do I remove an icon?
Come back to Home screen icons and switch it off. Do not uninstall the app, because that removes all of KuhuChat.
I do not see Home screen icons in my menu.
The option appears on phones that support it. It is Android only and is not available in a browser.
Can I add an icon directly to my home screen?
Where your phone allows it, you can add a shortcut. Long-press it later and tap Remove to take it off. If your phone refuses, open Settings, Apps, KuhuChat, Permissions and look for the home screen shortcut permission.
Where is the Toolbox inside the app?
Tap the toolbox icon in the top bar of the Samaj, Contacts, Social or Business tab.
3. My Profile
Your profile, how others see you, changing your Samaj, and blocking.
3.1My Profile screen

What do the status labels mean?
- Village Admin: you are an admin of your village.
- Verified Member: your village admins approved you.
- Verification Pending: you are waiting for approval (see 1.5).
What are the shield and tick badges next to my photo?
A shield with "Admin" means you are a village admin. A blue tick with "verified" means you are an approved member.
I see "Account banned".
Your account was blocked for breaking the rules. The reason is shown on the card.
3.2Viewing another member's profile
How do I see someone else's profile?

Where can I see my balance?
On My Profile, in the highlighted SMJ Points card.
How do I earn or spend points?
Points are shown on your profile. Details of how points are earned and used will be announced in the app.
3.5Change your Samaj
When do I need to change my Samaj?
When you picked the wrong caste or village, or your registration was for the wrong place.
How do I change it?

The Continue button is grey.
You must type CONFIRM exactly. It does not matter whether it is capital or small letters.
Something went wrong while resetting.
You see "Something went wrong. Please try again." Check your internet and try again.
3.6Blocked users
How do I block someone?
Long-press a person in your Contacts list or in your Samaj members list, then tap Block. Confirm the question.
What happens when I block someone?
They cannot message you or see your wall, family tree, business or status. You also stop seeing theirs. Their tile shows a Blocked label.
What does the other person see?
If you blocked them, tapping your tile shows "This contact is private". They are not told that you blocked them.
What do I see when I tap someone I blocked?
"You've blocked this contact".
How do I unblock?
- Tap the three dots and open Blocked Users.
- Tap Unblock beside the person.
- Confirm "Unblock [name]?".
You will be able to see and interact with them again.
Where is my block list?
In Blocked Users. If it is empty you see "No blocked users".
Can I block someone who is not on KuhuChat?
No. Only people who have a KuhuChat account can be blocked.
4. Samaj Community
Everything on the Samaj tab: the top bar, your members and chats, search, Pehchan, admins, approvals and joining villages together.
4.1Samaj tab top bar and icon row
What is at the top of the Samaj tab?
- Wall brick icon (left): opens your personal wall and shows a count for new activity.
- Your Samaj name (centre): your village, or a combined name if your village is connected with others. Tap it to open Village Connection (see 4.10).
- Megaphone: your voice status and voice messages left for you.
- Magnifier: Samaj Search (see 4.4).
- Toolbox icon: opens the Toolbox.
- Three-dot menu: Profile, App Theme, Notification Sound, Language, Blocked Users, Reminders, Home screen icons and Logout. Admins also see Manage Admins.
What are the six icons under the top bar?
- Family Tree, with a badge for family notifications.
- Matrimony, with a badge for new interests.
- Gallery, with a badge for new photos. Admins also see posts waiting for approval.
- Camera: takes a photo or video and drops it as a pin for your Samaj.
- Radar, with a green number for pins near you. Long-press it to set the radius.
- Business bag: opens your business. It turns green once your business has a name and one product with a photo and price.
Why are the icons greyed out?
Your membership is Pending, Needs verification or Rejected (see 1.5). They unlock once you are approved.
What are the round buttons at the bottom?
The Mitra star button opens Mitra (Relation Analysis and your Thread Diary, see Chapter 15), and Trip opens the Trip Planner. They hide while you have a chat open.
4.2Samaj chats
What is the Samaj tab list?
It is your list of Samaj members. Tap a member to open a private chat with them inside your Samaj. The chat works like any other private chat (see the Chat chapter for photos, voice messages, reminders and more).
In what order are members shown?
The member with the latest activity is on top, such as a new message or a new item from them.
How do I start a chat?
Tap the member. If you have not chatted before, you see an empty chat. Type your message and send.
What does a number on a member's tile mean?
Unread messages from that member. Opening the chat clears it.
Can I delete a chat?
Yes. Long-press the member.
- Clear chat for me removes the chat from your list only.
- Clear chat for both permanently deletes the chat for both of you. The member is not removed from your Samaj.
Why does a tile say Private or Blocked?
You blocked that member or they blocked you. You cannot open their chat, wall or business (see 3.6).
Can I chat while I am waiting for approval?
You can chat with your contacts and groups. The Samaj member list stays locked until you are approved.
Are my chats private?
Chats are encrypted (see the Chat chapter).
4.3Members list and what each icon opens
Who is in my members list?
Approved members of your Samaj group. If your village is connected with other villages, members of those villages are included. People who were once connected but later separated show "No Longer Connected".
What are the small icons on each member's tile?
- Megaphone: that member's voice status.
- Mitra: open Relation Analysis for your chat with that member (see 17.1).
- Wall: view their personal wall.
- Tree: view their family tree.
- Radar pin: view their memories. It highlights when they have new ones.
- Business bag: view their business. It looks inactive when they have none ("No Business Yet").
What does "(You)" mean?
That is your own tile. Your own voice status opens from it.
What if a member has no memories?
You see "[Name] has no memories yet".
Do I see pending members in the list?
New members waiting for approval appear at the top for village admins, with Approve and Reject buttons. Everyone else sees only approved members.
What is the Reject (0/2) button?
Rejecting needs two different admins (see 4.8).
4.4Samaj Search
How do I search my Samaj?
Tap the magnifier at the top of the Samaj tab. Samaj Search opens with two tabs, Members and Pehchan.
How does the Members tab work?
Type a name or part of a name. It searches your Samaj members. It also finds names written in another script, so you can search in English for a name written in Gujarati or Hindi. If nothing matches you see "No results for [text]".
Can I search chat messages?
Yes. The Chats tab searches messages in your Samaj chats and shows the member and time.
I see "Your Samaj is not set."
You have not joined a Samaj yet. Join one from the Samaj tab (see 1.4).
I see "No Samaj members found."
Your Samaj has no approved members yet, or your search did not match anyone.
Can I enter a phone number?
Use the Pehchan tab for phone numbers (see 4.5).
4.5Pehchan
What is Pehchan?
Pehchan shows how you are connected to someone through people you both know. Type their mobile number and it finds the shortest chain of connections.
How do I use it?
- Open Samaj Search and tap the Pehchan tab.
- Tap Sync once so KuhuChat can use your contacts. The message "Sync your network for social proof." explains this. You see "Samaj Network Synced!" when done.
- Enter the person's mobile number.
- Read the result.
What do the results mean?
- Direct: you know each other.
- 1°, 2° or 3° Contact: connected through your phone contacts, with the names of the people in between.
- 1°, 2° or 3° Samaj Connection: connected through your Samaj and families.
- No direct path found, but you share the same Samaj: no chain was found, but both of you belong to the same Samaj.
- No connection within 3 degrees: nobody links you within three steps.
- This is your number: you typed your own number.
- Connection error: try again.
Is my contact list shared?
KuhuChat uses only scrambled (hashed) versions of phone numbers for matching. Your contact names are not shown to others.
Do I have to sync?
Sync is needed to find contact-based connections. Without it you may still see Samaj-based results.
Why does it show name, Samaj and village?
So you can recognise the person you searched for.
4.6Admins and Manage Admins
What is a village admin?
An admin is a trusted member who approves new members and posts for the village. Each village has up to 3 admins.
How does someone become an admin?
- Automatically if they are among the first two members of a village, or if the village has no admin.
- Later, through admin applications and votes (see 4.7).
What do admins do?
- Review pending members (4.8).
- Review pending gallery posts (4.9).
- Manage admins (4.7).
How do admins open Manage Admins?
On the Samaj tab, tap the three dots and choose Manage Admins. Only admins see this option.
What is on the Manage Admins screen?
- Current Admins, with Remove and Keep buttons for each other admin.
- Applicants for Admin, with supporter counts and Support buttons.
How do I apply?
Tap Apply on the Applicants section. You see "Applied! Members can now vote for you." You can cancel with Cancel Application. Your support votes are cleared.
What messages might I see?
- You are already an admin for this village.
- You have already applied.
- Application withdrawn.
4.7Admin votes (remove, keep, support)
How can an admin be removed?
By votes. Each voter taps Remove or Keep on an admin. The result is the number of Remove votes minus Keep votes.
How many votes are needed?
10 percent of the village's members, and never fewer than 2. For example 10 members need 2, 100 members need 10, 200 members need 20. The screen shows "[n] net votes needed to remove" and the member count.
Can a small village remove an admin?
Not below 10 members. You see "Removal disabled — village needs 10+ members".
Can I change my vote?
Yes. Voting the same choice again withdraws your vote. Voting the other choice switches it. You cannot vote on yourself.
Who replaces a removed admin?
The applicant with the most supporters. If supporters are equal, the one who applied earlier wins. The new admin starts with a clean vote count.
What does Support do?
It adds your support to an applicant. Tap Supporting to withdraw it.
Can I see who voted?
Counts are shown. Individual votes are not listed.
4.8Pending members (admin review)
Where do admins review new members?
On the Pending Members screen, and at the top of the Samaj members list. Each request shows the person's name, village and how long ago they joined ("Joined 2h ago"). The screen says "New member — pending review".
What can an admin do?
- Verify Member: approves the person straight away. You see "Member verified successfully".
- Ask to Verify: asks the person to confirm their identity. You see "Member asked to verify their identity".
- Reject: counts as one reject vote. You see "Reject vote recorded (1/2). One more admin needs to reject."
How many admins must reject?
Two different admins. After the second vote you see "Member request rejected."
What if I already voted?
You see "You already voted to reject this member."
What if another admin already decided?
You see "This request was already resolved by another admin."
When the list is empty
You see "No pending members. All members are verified."
What does the member see?
Their status changes to Permanent, Needs verification or Rejected (see 1.5). When verification is requested, the admins' names and phone numbers are listed so they can call.
4.9Pending posts (admin review)
What are pending posts?
Posts that members add to the Samaj Gallery wait for admin review before everyone sees them (see the Gallery chapter).
How do admins review them?
Open the Pending Posts screen. Each post shows the member, the media (photo, video, audio or document), when it was posted, and "Auto-publishes in" a countdown.
- Approve: you see "Post approved and published to gallery".
- Reject: asks "This will permanently remove the post. Are you sure?" then "Post rejected and removed".
What if no admin acts?
After 1 hour the post is published automatically.
When the list is empty
You see "No pending posts. All posts have been reviewed."
Do the counts go away?
Yes. The admin badge on the Gallery icon goes down once a post is approved, rejected or published automatically.
4.10Village Connection (merge and separation)
What is Village Connection?
It lets your village group connect with other villages of the same caste, so members of both groups share one Samaj group. Each group is a subcaste of a village, for example one subcaste in one village.
How do I open it?
Tap your Samaj name at the top of the Samaj tab.
What is on the screen?
- Your Village and your Current Cluster of connected villages.
- Find a Group, to search for another group.
- Pending Requests, with a Vote button.
- Separation Votes.
- A "How it works" note: select your village, another village sends a merge request, both villages vote to merge.
How do I send a merge request?
- Tap Find a Group.
- Choose State, District, Taluka and Village.
- Choose the group. You see "Selected: [caste] of [village]".
- Tap Send request to this group.
You see "Request sent. Both groups need 10 votes."
How many votes are needed to merge?
10 votes from each group. When both reach 10 they connect automatically. There is no separate accept step.
How do I vote?
Open Pending Requests, check "Requested by [name]" and tap Vote. You can only vote for your own group. Other groups show "Not your group".
What can I not do?
You cannot send a request to your own village ("This is your own village!"). A village with no members shows "This village has no members yet." A profile without a caste shows "Caste profile incomplete".
How do we disconnect?
Tap Vote to Leave Cluster, choose the specific village you want to disconnect from, and confirm. You see "Your vote to separate has been cast." Disconnecting from one village does not affect your other connections.
How many votes does separation need?
15 votes from your own group. The other group cannot block it.
Can we reconnect later?
Yes, with a new request and the same 10 votes from each group.
What happens after connecting?
Your Samaj name shows the combined group, and members, chats and the gallery include the connected villages.
Who decides the result?
The result is counted by KuhuChat's server, not by your phone, so it cannot be changed from the app.
5. Family Tree (Banyan Map)
Build your family tree on a map, add relatives, confirm relations, and see who is connected to whom.
5.1Banyan map overview
What is the Family Tree (Banyan Map)?
It is a map of your family. You are one pin, and every relative you add is another pin on the map, placed at their village or home. Lines join you to each relative. It keeps your family connected across villages and cities.
How do I open my family tree?
On the Samaj tab, tap the green tree icon in the row of icons under the top bar. If something is waiting for you, a number appears on the icon.
What do I see on the map?
- Your own pin, in gold with a home mark and your village name.
- A pin for each relative, showing their name and your relation to them.
- A box at the top left saying how many connections you have.
- Four buttons at the top right: Refresh, Toggle satellite, Toggle lines and Fit all.
- Plus and minus buttons to zoom.
- Directory and Add Relative at the bottom.
What do the pin colours mean?
- Gold: you.
- Green: a confirmed relative. Both of you agreed on the relation.
- Red: a relative who has not confirmed yet, or a relative added by hand who has no KuhuChat account.
- Dark red with a cross: a broken link. That person removed the relation (see 5.4).
What do the lines mean?
A solid green line joins you to a confirmed relative. A dashed red line joins you to a relative who is not confirmed yet. Broken links have no line.
What do the buttons at the top do?
- Refresh: reloads the tree.
- Toggle satellite: switches between the normal map and the satellite view.
- Toggle lines: shows or hides the lines between pins.
- Fit all: zooms the map so that every pin is visible.
What does "connections" at the top left mean?
It is the number of people on your map, counting you.
How do I put my pin at my exact home?
- Long-press your gold pin.
- Drag it to your exact home.
- Release it. A box asks "Set your home pin here?" and says only you can move this pin and your relatives will see you at this exact spot.
- Tap Save. You see "Home pin saved". Tap Cancel to put it back.
Once you have set your own spot, KuhuChat always uses it.
Where is my pin placed if I do not move it?
At your native village, from the place list. Pins of your relatives are placed the same way, at their village.
Why are some pins slightly moved from where they should be?
When several people live in the same place, their pins would sit on top of each other. KuhuChat spreads them out a little so each one can be tapped. When you zoom in close, pins that still overlap are nudged apart so every name is readable.
Can I move a relative's pin?
No. Only the person a pin belongs to can move it.
What is the Directory?
A list of everyone on the map. Tap Directory at the bottom to open it. It is called "Family Directory" on your tree and "[Name]'s Family" on someone else's tree. It shows how many people there are, and a legend: You, Confirmed, Pending and Broken.
What can I do in the Directory?
Each row shows the photo, name, relation and village. From a row you can:
- Tap the photo to see it full screen. You can pinch to zoom.
- Tap Show on map to jump to that pin.
- Tap Remove to take the relative out of your tree (see 5.4).
- Confirm or Dismiss, when a banner is shown under the row (see 5.3).
What happens when I tap a pin?
A card opens from the bottom with the photo, name, relation, village and status. If the relative has a KuhuChat account, a button "View [Name]'s Family Tree" opens their tree.
Can other people see my tree?
Other members of your Samaj can open your tree in view-only mode from the tree icon on your tile in the Members list. People looking at your matrimony profile can also open it if you have added relatives. They can look but cannot change anything.
How do I see someone else's tree?
Open the Members list and tap the green tree icon on their tile. The map opens in view-only mode, with a "[Name]'s Relations" button at the bottom and a "My Tree" button at the top right to come back to your own tree.
I see "This family tree is private".
You or that person has blocked the other. A blocked person cannot open the tree (see 3.6).
My tree only shows me. Is that right?
Yes. A new tree starts with just your gold pin. Tap Add Relative to build it (see 5.2).
Does my tree change when my village merges with another?
No. Your tree is tied to your native village, so it stays exactly as it is when villages merge or separate.
Do I need internet for the family tree?
Yes. The map and your relatives load from your account, so you need a connection.
5.2Add a relative
How do I add a relative?
- Open your Family Tree.
- Tap Add Relative at the bottom. The screen "Expand Banyan Tree" opens.
- Choose From Samaj or Manual Entry (see below).
- Pick the relation, check the name and tap CONNECT TO BANYAN TREE.
You see "Relative added successfully!"
What is the difference between From Samaj and Manual Entry?
- From Samaj: for a relative who is already a member of your Samaj on KuhuChat. They get a request and must confirm. Their own tree also shows you.
- Manual Entry: for a relative who is not on KuhuChat. You type their name and place. No request is sent, and nobody needs to confirm.
How do I add a relative who is on KuhuChat?
- Tap the From Samaj tab.
- Under "Search Samaj members:", type a name or a phone number in the "Name or phone…" box.
- Tap the person in the list. Their name and village appear in a card.
- Tap Select Relation and choose how that person is related to you.
- If a box asks "Clarify your relation", tell it who you are to them (see below).
- Check the name. You can change how it appears in your tree.
- Tap CONNECT TO BANYAN TREE.
Who can I find in the list?
Members of your own Samaj, including villages merged with yours. You do not see yourself, and you do not see anyone you have blocked or who has blocked you. People already in your tree are greyed out with the note that they have already been added.
What does "Clarify your relation" mean?
Some relations can go two ways. If you pick "Father", the app needs to know whether you are their Son or their Daughter, so that their tree shows the right relation. The box says "Your [relation] is in the system. Who are you to them?" Tap the right answer. Tap Cancel if you picked the wrong relation.
How do I add a relative who is not on KuhuChat?
- Tap the Manual Entry tab.
- Tap Select Relation and choose the relation.
- Type the Full Name.
- Choose the location (see below).
- Add a house or street if you like. It is optional.
- Tap CONNECT TO BANYAN TREE.
How do I choose the location in Manual Entry?
There are two ways.
- Tap Search & pin on map. Search for the village, taluka or district, or drop a pin on the map.
- Or go step by step: State, then District, then Sub-District (Taluka), then Village. You may stop at the district or the taluka. At those steps you can tap "Don't know it — pin on map instead".
A location is needed. If it cannot be worked out you see "Location could not be resolved."
What if my relative's village is not in the list?
Search for it in the Search & pin box. If it is not found, drop a pin on the map at the exact spot. You will see a note that the exact spot you picked was saved, even though it is not in the place list yet.
How many relation types are there?
103 relation names, in 13 groups, each in all 13 app languages. The groups are Spouse, Parents, Children, Siblings, Siblings-in-law, Grandparents, Grandchildren, Great Grandparents, Great Grandchildren, Paternal Relatives, Maternal Relatives, Nephews and Nieces, and In-Laws. They include family words such as Dada, Nana, Chacha, Mama, Jeth, Devar, Saala and Bhabhi, and step, adopted and foster relations.
Will a relation show in my language?
Yes. Relations are shown in the language you chose for the app (see 2.1). Two people who use different languages each see the same relation in their own language.
The person I am adding is my cousin. Which do I pick?
Pick the cousin relation that matches, for example "Chachera Bhai" or "Mausera Bhai". For some cousins the app shows four choices when it asks "Clarify your relation", because it cannot know whether the uncle is older or younger. Pick the one that fits.
What does the other person see?
For a Samaj member, their tree shows you with the matching reverse relation. For example, if you add them as your "Son", they see you as their "Father" or "Mother", whichever you chose. They get a notification asking them to confirm (see 5.3).
Can I change the relation after adding?
Not directly. Remove the person (see 5.4) and add them again with the correct relation.
Can I add the same person twice?
No. You see "This person is already in your family tree." If the earlier link was broken because the person removed it, you can add them again.
What do the error messages mean?
- "Select a Samaj member." You have not tapped a person in the list.
- "Select a relation." Choose a relation before saving.
- "Enter the person's name." The name cannot be empty.
- "This person is not available to add." The person is blocked or you are blocked. You cannot add each other while blocked.
- "Selected user has no location data." That member has no place saved yet.
- "Could not fetch location. Check connection." Check your internet and try again.
- "Save failed. Check your connection and try again." Try again when you are online.
How many relatives can I add?
Add as many as you like. Repeat the steps for each one.
5.3Confirm a relation and link families
Why do relatives need to confirm?
So nobody can claim a relation that is not true. When you add a Samaj member, the relation stays pending until that person agrees.
What happens when I add a Samaj member?
- Your tree shows them with a red pin and a dashed red line, marked pending.
- Their tree shows you with the matching reverse relation.
- They get a notification: "New Family Connection Request".
How do I confirm a relation someone added for me?
- Tap the notification. It opens your tree and shows a card: "[Name] connected to you as [relation]. Confirm if this is correct."
- Tap Confirm Relation. You see "✓ Relation confirmed!"
You can also open Directory and tap Confirm on that person's row.
Who can confirm?
Only the person who was added. The person who added the relation cannot confirm it. If they try, they see "You added this — nothing to confirm on your side."
What do I see while I am waiting?
When you tap that pin, the card says "Waiting for [Name] to confirm". On someone else's tree you see "Pending confirmation".
What happens after it is confirmed?
The pin turns green, the line becomes solid, and the card says "Confirmed & linked". The person who added you gets a notification: "Family Connection Confirmed ✅".
How long can a relation stay pending?
Until the other person confirms, or one of you removes it. There is no time limit.
What if we both add each other?
KuhuChat matches the two entries. If the other person had already confirmed you, your entry is confirmed at once.
What is "linked"?
A relative is linked when they have a KuhuChat account and have confirmed. You can then tap their pin and open "View [Name]'s Family Tree" to see their relatives too. This is how families of different villages join up.
How do I say no to a relation I do not agree with?
Open Directory and tap Remove on that person's row. They are told that you removed the relation (see 5.4).
Do manual relatives need confirming?
No. A relative added by hand has no account, so nobody can confirm. They show in red because they are not linked.
I confirmed a relation by mistake.
Remove the relation (see 5.4) and ask them to add you again if needed.
5.4Remove a relation
How do I remove a relative from my tree?
- Open your Family Tree and tap Directory.
- Tap the bin icon on the person's row.
- A box titled "Remove Relation" asks you to confirm. Tap Remove, or Cancel to stop.
You see "Relation removed".
Can I remove myself?
No. The gold pin is your own origin and you see "Origin pin cannot be removed."
What does the other person see when I remove them?
- They get a notification: "Family Connection Removed 🌳".
- Their entry for you turns into a broken link: a dark red pin with a cross, marked "Relation removed".
- A banner says "[Name] has removed the relation with you."
What is a broken link and what can I do with it?
It is what you see when someone removed the relation with you. Tap Remove broken link in the Directory (or "Remove from my tree" on the card) to clear it. The message "Removed from your tree" confirms it. You can also tap Dismiss on the banner in the Directory.
Is a relative I added manually also told?
No. Relatives added by hand have no account, so they are deleted silently.
Can I add the person again later?
Yes. Any old broken link is cleared when you add them again. They get a new request to confirm.
Can I undo a removal?
No. Add the person again and ask them to confirm.
Does removing a relative affect my chats or contacts?
No. It only changes the family tree.
Is my tree deleted when I change my Samaj?
Yes. Changing your Samaj deletes your family tree (see 3.5).
5.5Family tree notifications
What family tree notifications will I get?
- "New Family Connection Request 🌳": someone added you as a relative. Tap to confirm.
- "Family Connection Confirmed ✅": someone confirmed the relation you added.
- "Family Connection Removed 🌳": someone removed the relation with you.
What happens when I tap the notification?
For a new request, your tree opens and the confirm card for that person opens by itself. For the other two, the app opens on its home screen. Open your tree to see what changed. This works even if the app was closed.
What is the number on the tree icon?
It counts family tree notifications you have not looked at yet. It also adds to the number on the Samaj tab and your app icon (see 2.3).
How do I clear the number?
Open your Family Tree. All family tree notifications are marked as seen. The number also clears if you tap the tree icon on your own tile in the Members list.
Where do I see old family notifications?
KuhuChat does not keep a notification list for the tree. Open the Family Tree and check the Directory. Relations waiting for you show an amber banner with Confirm. Broken links show a red banner.
Will I be notified when someone views my tree?
No.
Why did I not get a notification?
- The relative was added by hand, so no account was notified.
- Notifications are switched off for KuhuChat in your phone settings (see 2.4).
- Your internet or battery saver is blocking them.
Do I get a notification for my own actions?
No. When you add, confirm or remove a relative, only the other person is notified.
5.6My Tree in the Matrimony dashboard
What is the family tree card in Matrimony?
Your Matrimony dashboard has a card called My Family Tree. It shows your relatives in a list, so you can see your family at a glance without opening the map.
What does the card show?
- The number of family members.
- How many are verified and how many are pending.
- A View Map button that opens your Banyan map.
- Your relatives grouped by type, such as Parent, Sibling, Spouse, Child, Grandparent and Aunt / Uncle. Scroll sideways to see them all.
What does a relative's card show?
Tap a relative to see their photo, name, relation, group, and whether they are Verified or Pending. Below that, if known, you see their Samaj and their location: village, sub-district, district and state.
I see "Build Your Family Tree".
You have not added any relatives yet. Tap Start Your Tree to open the map and add the first one (see 5.2).
Who sees this card?
People who open your matrimony profile see your family card too, as view-only. They do not see a "build" prompt, and if you have no relatives, the card is not shown at all.
Can people change my tree from the card?
No. Others can only look.
Does the card match the map?
Yes. Both read the same tree. Add, confirm or remove a relative on the map and the card updates the next time it loads.
6. Matrimony
Make your biodata with photos, browse and filter profiles, send and answer interests, see contact numbers once you are connected, and renew or delete your profile.
6.1Matrimony dashboard
What is Matrimony in KuhuChat?
It is a rishta (match-making) section built into your Samaj. You make a biodata, browse profiles of other Samaj members, send an interest, and when the other person accepts you can see each other's contact number. There is no payment and no agent in between.
Where do I find it?
Open the Samaj tab and tap the Matrimony icon in the icon row under the top bar. The Matrimony icon shows a green badge when someone has sent you an interest.
What do I see when I open it?
The My Matrimony screen. It shows your biodata card (photo, name, age, caste, key details and how complete it is), your interests (people who have expressed interest in you), a Browse Profiles button, and three cards: My Samaj Profile, My Business Hub and My Tree.
I see "Create biodata" instead of a profile. Why?
You have not made a matrimony profile yet. Tap Create biodata and fill the form (see 6.2). You can browse only after you set up your profile.
I see "No Samaj profile found" or a message asking me to complete registration.
Matrimony needs your Samaj registration first. Join your Samaj from the Samaj tab (see 1.4), then come back.
What does the badge on the Matrimony icon mean?
It counts new activity: a new interest received, or a reply to an interest you sent (accepted, declined or unmatched). It clears when you open the Matrimony screen.
Is Matrimony only for people in my own village?
No. By default you see profiles from your caste group (the app shows "Showing profiles from your caste group"). You can narrow this with filters (see 6.4).
6.2Create your biodata (profile form)
How do I create my biodata?
Open Matrimony, tap Create biodata, fill the form and tap Save Profile. The same form opens when you tap Edit Profile on your biodata card.
Which fields are required?
Five things are needed before Save Profile works: your full name, your date of birth, About me, your current address, and at least 2 photos. Required fields are marked with a red star.
What other details can I add?
Gender, marital status, height (in cm), education, profession, annual income, mother tongue, religion, and caste or subcaste. Only the required fields must be filled, but a fuller biodata gets more attention and a higher match score (see 6.4).
What are the marital status options?
Never married, divorced or widowed.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. You must be at least 18 years old. If your date of birth makes you younger, the app shows "Must be at least 18 years old" and will not save.
What is the Kundli section?
It is where you add your birth details for horoscope matching: birth time, birth country and birth place. It is optional. Add it if your family matches horoscopes.
Why does the form ask for my current address?
It tells people where you live now. You can search a place and pin it on the map using Search & pin on map, or type your address. Country is chosen from a list.
Can I make a profile for someone else, like my son or daughter?
Each profile belongs to the account that made it, and the profile uses that account's Samaj details. To create a profile for a family member, they should log in with their own mobile number and create it themselves.
Can I have more than one matrimony profile?
No. Each account has one matrimony profile.
How do I edit my biodata later?
Open Matrimony and tap Edit Profile on your biodata card, change what you need and tap Save Profile. Editing does not hide your profile and does not cancel interests you already sent or received.
Is my caste filled in automatically?
The caste field is linked to your Samaj registration where available. If you need to change your caste or village, do it through Change your Samaj (see 3.5), because it also resets your family tree and matrimony profile.
6.3Photos and profile completeness
How many photos do I need?
At least 2 and at most 6. Until you add 2, the form shows how many more you need and Save Profile stays off.
How do I add photos?
In the Photos section tap the "+" box and pick pictures from your phone. You can pick several at once. If you pick more than the limit, extra photos are skipped and the app tells you only 6 are allowed.
A photo failed to upload.
You will see "Upload failed". Check your internet and add that photo again. Photos that did upload stay in the form.
How do I remove or replace a photo?
Tap the small red cross on the photo, then add a new one. You must still end up with at least 2 photos when you save.
Which photo shows first?
The first photo in your list is the main picture on your card, so remove and re-add photos if you want a different main picture.
What is the "profile complete" percentage?
A quick score on your biodata card based on seven things: name, at least one photo, education, profession, height, About me and mother tongue. The card tells you how much to add to reach 100%.
Does a higher percentage help me?
A complete biodata gives people more to look at, and profiles with a photo get a higher match score on others' screens.
What happens to my photos if I remove my profile?
They are deleted along with the profile (see 6.12).
6.4Browse matches and filters
How do I browse profiles?
Open Matrimony and tap Browse Profiles. Scroll through the cards. Tap a card to open the full profile.
Which profiles will I see?
Active profiles of the opposite gender from your own, from your own caste group. Your own profile is never shown. Each screen loads up to 50 profiles, so use search and filters to narrow down.
Can I see both brides and grooms?
No. To keep browsing relevant and safe, the app always shows the opposite gender and this cannot be switched.
What is the percentage on each card?
A match score out of 99. It starts from a base and goes up when you share the same mother tongue, education and profession, and when the other profile has photos. Green means a strong match, orange a fair one. It is a quick guide only, not a promise of compatibility.
What else is on each card?
The photo, name and age, and small chips showing if the person has a business or a verified family tree and how many.
How do I search?
Type in the search bar at the top. It looks at name, village, profession, education, mother tongue, caste and community.
What filters are there?
Tap the filter icon in the search bar. You can filter by age range (starts at 18 to 50), marital status, education, profession, mother tongue and caste or subcaste. Under "Show only" you can also choose profiles with photos, profiles with a business, or profiles with a family tree.
How do I clear filters?
Tap Clear all in the chips row under the search bar, or Reset in the filter sheet. You can also remove one chip at a time.
Why do I see "No profiles found"?
No profile matches your search and filters. Try widening the age range, removing a filter, or check back later as new profiles are added.
Why can I not find a profile I saw earlier?
The person may have hidden, renewed or removed their profile, or your filters may exclude them.
Do Education and Profession filters need exact spelling?
No. They match loosely, so "B. ED" and "Teacher" in a profile can still match the filter options.
6.5Profile details
What can I see on someone's profile?
Their photos (swipe through them), name and age, marital status, height, education, profession, annual income, mother tongue, religion, caste, date of birth details, About me, and the cards for Samaj profile, business and family tree if they have them.
Can I see their phone number?
Not until you are connected. Contact details open only after an interest is accepted (see 6.8).
Can I see someone's family tree?
If a profile shows a family tree, you can open it in view-only mode from their profile.
Can I move to the next profile without going back?
Yes. The profile screen keeps the list you came from, so you can move through the profiles without going back each time.
Can the other person see that I viewed their profile?
The app does not show any "viewed by" list.
6.6Send, resend and cooldown of interest
How do I send an interest?
Open the person's profile and tap Send Interest. You will see "Interest sent!". The person gets a notification and a badge. You need your own matrimony profile first, otherwise the app says "Create your marriage profile first".
Can I send an interest to the same person twice?
Not while one is already waiting. If your interest is pending, the app says you already have a pending interest with that profile. If they have already accepted, it says you are already connected.
How do I know the status of my interest?
On their profile the button changes: "Interest Sent - Awaiting response", "Connected!", or "Send Interest Again". You can also see all your interests under Sent in the Interests screen (see 6.9).
My interest was declined. Can I send it again?
Yes, after a 30-day wait. During the wait the app says "You can send a new interest to this profile in N day(s)". After 30 days, Send Interest Again appears.
Can the wait be shortened?
Only the person who declined can shorten it. If they choose "Allow them to request again", you can send a fresh interest right away.
I withdrew my interest. Can I send it again?
Yes, straight away. There is no wait after withdrawing.
We were unmatched. Can I send again?
Yes, there is no cooldown after an unmatch, unless the other person blocked you.
It says "You are not able to send an interest to this profile".
That profile has chosen not to receive interests from you. You cannot send one.
Will sending again create a duplicate in the other person's list?
No. There is always a single entry per pair of people. A resend turns that same entry back to pending and notifies them again.
Can I add a message with my interest?
Your interest is sent with your biodata. Once the person accepts, you can introduce yourself using their contact details.
How many interests can I send?
The app does not set a limit.
6.7Accept, reject and withdraw an interest
Someone sent me an interest. How do I respond?
Open the notification, or Matrimony > Interests > Received. On the person's profile you will see "This person has expressed interest in your profile" with Accept Interest and Reject buttons. In the Received list the buttons are Accept and Decline.
What happens when I accept?
You see "Interest accepted! You are now connected." You and the other person become connected, and each of you can see the other's contact number. The sender gets a notification.
Does the app warn me before I accept?
Yes. A confirmation asks you to confirm and explains that by accepting both of you will be able to see each other's contact details.
What happens when I decline?
The status becomes rejected and the sender is told that there is an update on their interest (the notification does not say who declined or why). The sender can try again after 30 days unless you allow it sooner.
Does declining block the person?
No. Declining only ends this request. To stop all future interests from the person, use Block (see 6.10).
I declined by mistake. What can I do?
In Interests > Received, find the declined request and tap "Allow them to request again". The person can then send a new interest at once. You cannot undo the decline itself.
How do I withdraw an interest I sent?
Open the person's profile or go to Interests > Sent, tap Withdraw Interest and confirm. You will see "Interest withdrawn". You can send a new one later.
Can I change my mind after accepting?
Yes. Use Unmatch (see 6.8).
6.8Connected: seeing contact details
What do I get when we are connected?
A "Connected!" label on the profile and the other person's phone number. You can also see this in the Sent or Received list under that person's card.
Can I chat with the person?
Yes. The accept notification says you can now chat. The phone number is for calling or messaging on your own.
Who sees my phone number?
Only people whose interest you accepted, or who accepted your interest. Nobody else can see it on your matrimony profile.
How do I disconnect?
Open the profile or the Received/Sent list and tap Unmatch. A box asks you to confirm, and an option lets you also block the person. The other person gets an update notification. Their number is hidden from you again and yours from them.
Can we reconnect after an unmatch?
Yes, either person can send a new interest, unless one of you blocked the other.
6.9Interests screen (Received and Sent)
Where do I manage interests?
Matrimony > Interests. It has two tabs: Received (people who sent you an interest) and Sent (interests you sent).
What do the statuses mean?
Pending: waiting for a reply. Accepted: connected. Rejected: declined. Withdrawn: the sender took it back. Unmatched: a connection that was ended.
What can I do in each tab?
Received, pending: Accept or Decline, or open the profile. Received, declined: Allow them to request again, or Block. Sent, pending: Withdraw. Either tab, accepted: Unmatch. Finished requests can be deleted from your list.
How do I delete an old request from my list?
Open the request and tap the delete option. The app asks "Delete this request?". Deleting only clears it from your list.
What does "Profile no longer available" mean?
The person removed their profile or it expired. The request stays in your list, but you cannot open it.
How do I see who I blocked?
In the Interests screen, tap the blocked profiles icon in the top bar (see 6.10).
6.10Report, block and unblock profiles
How do I report a profile?
Open the profile, tap Report, then confirm "Are you sure you want to report this profile?" You will see "Reported. Thank you." The report is recorded against that profile so it can be reviewed.
When should I report?
Fake or misleading details, someone else's photos, abusive behaviour, or anything that feels unsafe.
How do I block a profile?
Tap Block this person on a profile (on received or declined requests and on connections) or Block in the Received list, then confirm. You can also tick "Also block this person" when you unmatch.
What does blocking do?
That person can no longer send you an interest. They are told they cannot send an interest to this profile. Blocking does not delete the existing request or remove either person from the Samaj.
Can the blocked person still see my profile?
Blocking stops interests only. It does not hide your profile from them in the browse list.
How do I unblock?
Open Matrimony > Interests, tap the blocked profiles icon at the top (Blocked Profiles), find the person and tap Unblock. They can send you an interest again.
Will the other person know I blocked them?
They get no notification. They only see the message when they try to send an interest.
6.11Renew your profile
How long does my matrimony profile stay active?
The form tells you: "Your profile stays visible for 3 months. You can delete it anytime, or it is removed automatically after that."
How will I know it is about to expire?
A banner appears on the My Matrimony screen: "Your profile expires in N days", and when only a couple of days are left it turns red with "renew now!". A Renew button is on the banner.
How do I renew?
Tap Renew on the banner. Your biodata opens. Check your details and tap Save Profile.
What happens if I do not renew?
When the time runs out, your profile is removed automatically and stops showing in browse. You can create a new biodata any time.
Do I lose my interests if my profile expires?
Your profile and its interests are removed together, so renew before the date if you have connections you want to keep.
6.12Delete your profile
How do I delete my matrimony profile?
Open My Matrimony, open your biodata card and tap Remove your profile. Read the message, then tap Remove.
What exactly is deleted?
Your matrimony profile and photos, every interest you sent or received, your name from other people's blocked lists, and the birth details saved from your Kundli section. This cannot be undone.
What is not deleted?
Your Samaj registration and profile, your family tree, chats, contacts, wall, gallery, pins and business. Only matrimony data is removed.
Can I make a new profile after deleting?
Yes, create a new biodata from Matrimony at any time.
Deleting failed. What should I do?
You will see "Could not delete the profile right now. Please try again." Check your internet and try again.
I changed my Samaj. What happens to my matrimony profile?
It is deleted with its interests (see 3.5). Create a new one after you register in your new Samaj.
6.13Matrimony notifications
Which notifications will I get?
New interest: "New Marriage Interest: [Name] has expressed interest in your profile. Tap to view." Accepted: "Interest Accepted! [Name] accepted your interest. You can now chat with them." Declined or unmatched: "Interest Update: You have an update on a marriage interest you sent / one of your marriage connections. Tap to view."
What happens when I tap one?
It opens the Interests screen.
Does a resend notify me again?
Yes. A resent interest is a new pending interest for you, so you get a new notification and badge.
Will I know who declined me?
The notification does not say who or why. Open Sent to see the status.
I am not getting matrimony notifications.
See 2.4. Make sure notifications are allowed for KuhuChat on your phone, you have internet, and battery saver is not restricting the app.
7. Samaj Gallery
Post photos, videos, audio and documents to your Samaj, how admin approval works, who can delete a post, the 3-month expiry, saving to your Diary and gallery notifications.
7.1View and post to the gallery
What is the Samaj Gallery?
A shared photo, video, audio and document wall for your Samaj. Everyone in your Samaj group can see what members post: weddings, festivals, village events, old photographs and notices.
Where do I find it?
Open the Samaj tab and tap the Gallery icon in the icon row. The screen is titled Community Gallery. A badge on the icon shows new photos since you last opened it.
Who can see my posts?
Members of your Samaj group, including any villages your group is connected to at the moment you post. Members of other castes, other villages that are not connected, and people outside the app cannot see it in the gallery.
What if my village is merged with another village later?
Your older posts keep the audience they had when you posted them. New posts after the merge reach the other village too. If villages are separated later, posts made while they were connected stay visible to both sides, and new posts stop reaching each other (see 4.10).
What can I post?
Photos, videos, audio files and documents.
How do I post?
Tap the round add button at the bottom of the Gallery. Choose what you want to add: photos or videos from your phone, a new photo from the camera, an audio file, or a document. You can select several at once.
How do I add a caption?
After you pick your items, a screen shows them. Swipe between them, type a caption (up to four lines), remove any you do not want, and tap post. The same caption is used for the whole batch.
I picked five photos. Is that one post or five?
Five separate posts, one for each item, all with the same caption.
What does the progress screen show?
Stages such as compressing, uploading and saving, with a percentage for large files. Photos and videos are compressed first to save data. You can cancel while it is in progress; you will see "Upload cancelled".
Upload failed. What do I do?
You will see a message such as "Compression failed" or an upload error. Check your internet and try again. If some items of a batch succeeded, the app tells you how many posted and how many failed.
Will my post appear straight away?
If you are an admin, yes: "Posted to gallery!". If you are an ordinary member, you will see "Uploaded - waiting for admin approval" (see 7.2).
What can I do on someone's post?
Like it, comment on it, share it, download it to your phone, tag it into your Diary, or vote to delete it (see 7.3).
How do comments work?
Tap the comment icon on a post. Type under "Add comment..." and send. If a post has many comments, tap "View all N comments". You can delete your own comments. Admins can delete any comment.
How do I share a post?
Tap the share icon. The link is sent with a short KuhuChat footer so the receiver knows where it came from.
How do I save a photo or video to my phone?
Tap the download icon. The first time, the app asks for permission to save files. When it is done you will see "Saved successfully!". If you refused permission, it says "Permission denied - can't save gallery items". Allow it in your phone settings and try again.
What does the caption look like on documents and audio?
Documents show the file name with "Tap to open document". Tapping opens the file in an app on your phone that can read it.
The gallery says "No posts yet".
Nobody in your Samaj group has posted anything that you can see yet. Tap the add button and be the first.
7.2Moderation and approval
Why do ordinary members' posts need approval?
To keep the gallery clean and suitable for the community. Admins of the uploader's village review new posts from members.
Who are the moderators?
The admins of the village the uploader belongs to (their origin village). An admin of another village in your Samaj group cannot approve or reject your post.
What does an admin see?
Pending posts from their own village appear in the gallery with Approve and Reject buttons. Admins also see these counted on their Gallery icon until they act.
What happens when an admin approves?
The post goes live for everyone in the group and members are notified (see 7.6).
What happens when an admin rejects?
The post is deleted permanently, with its media. The uploader is not sent a separate notice.
What if no admin acts?
The post is published automatically once it has been pending for about 1 hour. The app checks every few minutes, so it may take a little longer than an hour.
Can I see my own post while it is waiting?
Pending posts show for the village admins who review them. You will see the confirmation "Uploaded - waiting for admin approval" after posting, and the post appears to everyone once it is approved or auto-published.
Are admin posts also checked?
No. An admin's post goes live immediately.
7.3Who can delete
How do I delete my own post?
Tap the delete (bin) icon on your post, then confirm "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this post?". You will see "Post deleted successfully". The photo, video or file is removed from storage too.
Can an admin delete my post?
Yes, but only the admins of your origin village (the village you registered under). They have the bin icon on your post. Admins of other villages do not.
Can other members delete a post?
Yes, through a community vote. Every member can tap the warning icon on a post once to vote. The counter shows the votes so far, for example 3/10. When 10 different members have voted, the post is deleted automatically.
Can I take back my vote?
No. Each member gets one vote per post, and the icon is disabled after you vote.
When should I vote to delete?
For posts that are inappropriate, offensive, false or harmful to the community. Do not vote just because you disagree with someone.
7.4Auto-expiry of gallery posts
How long do gallery posts stay?
Approved posts are removed automatically about 3 months (90 days) after they were uploaded.
What is removed?
The post and its photo, video, audio or document, to keep storage under control. Comments and likes go with it.
How do I keep a photo I love?
Download it to your phone with the download icon, or tag it to your Diary (see 7.5). A photo or video tagged to your Diary is kept for as long as it stays in the Diary.
When does the clean-up run?
Once a day, at night. A post may therefore stay a little beyond exactly 3 months.
7.5Full-screen media viewer and tagging
How do I open a photo or video full screen?
Tap it. In the viewer you can swipe left and right to move to the next or previous item. The back arrow at the top returns you to the list.
How do I tag a post to my Diary?
Tap the tag button on the post, or swipe it to reveal Tag, then choose a thread. If the post is already in that thread, you will see a message saying so. If a post is still uploading or cannot be tagged, you will see "This post can't be tagged yet."
How do I tag several posts at once?
Press and hold a post to start selecting. Tap more posts. The top bar shows "N selected" and a Tag button. Tap Tag and pick the thread. If none of the selected posts can be tagged, you will see "None of the selected posts can be tagged."
How do I cancel selecting?
Tap the X in the top bar.
7.6Gallery notifications and badge
When am I notified?
When someone in your Samaj group adds a post that is live: "[Name] added to Gallery - Added a new photo to Gallery" (or "video"). The poster does not get their own notification.
Do I get notified for posts waiting for approval?
No. Members are notified when the post goes live, either by an admin approving it or after it auto-publishes.
What happens when I tap the notification?
It opens the Gallery.
What does the green badge on the Gallery icon mean?
New approved posts you have not seen. It clears when you open the Gallery. For admins, posts waiting for their approval are also counted until they approve or reject them, or the post is auto-published (see 2.3).
I do not get gallery notifications.
See 2.4. Check that notifications are allowed for KuhuChat, that you are an approved Samaj member (see 1.5), and that your internet and battery settings are not blocking the app.
8. Community Radar and Pins
A map of photo and video pins: see pins near you, set the radius and date range, add your own pin, edit or delete it, and tag pins into your Diary.
8.1Radar map
What is the Community Radar?
A map of memory pins. A pin is a photo or video that someone left at the place where it was taken. The Radar shows the pins around you, so you can see what your people have captured nearby: a village function, a temple visit, an old street.
Where do I find it?
On the Samaj tab, tap the Radar icon in the icon row. A green number on the icon tells you how many Samaj pins are near you (see 8.4).
Does the Radar need my location?
Yes. It centres the map on where you are and shows pins within your chosen radius. The first time, the app asks for location permission. If you refused it, you will see "Location Blocked". Allow location for KuhuChat in your phone settings and open the Radar again.
Whose pins do I see?
Your own pins, pins from people saved in your phone contacts who are on KuhuChat, and pins from members of your Samaj group, including villages your group is connected to. Nobody else sees them.
How do I see a pin?
Tap a marker on the map. The marker shows a small picture of the pin. A viewer opens (see 8.8).
Can I look at a particular member's pins?
Yes. Open a contact or member card and choose to view their memories. The Radar opens showing only that person's pins.
The map looks empty.
There may be no pins inside your radius. Try a larger radius (8.3) or a wider date range (8.2). Check that you have internet and location turned on.
8.2Date-range slider
What is the slider at the bottom of the map?
It chooses how old the pins should be, measured in days ago. By default it covers everything, from today back as far as the app can go.
How do I use it?
Drag the two handles, or tap the range to type exact numbers in the "From" and "To (days ago)" boxes. For example, from 0 to 30 shows pins from the last month.
Why does the Radar show only a few pins at first?
To keep the map fast, it starts with the most recent pins and widens its search until it finds enough. At first up to 10 are shown. Open the list and pull more when you want to see the rest, up to 50 at a time.
8.3Radius setting
How do I change how far the Radar looks?
Long-press the Radar icon on the Samaj tab. A sheet called Nearby Pin Radius opens. Choose a distance between 1 and 10 km. The default is 5 km.
Is my choice remembered?
Yes. It is saved on your phone. It sets both the area the Radar searches and the distance for the green number on the icon.
8.4Nearby-pin count badge
What does the green number on the Radar icon mean?
How many pins from your Samaj are within your radius and new to you. The sheet says: "Show badge when Samaj pins are within this distance."
How does it go down?
When you view that person's pins, their pins are counted as seen. The number is re-checked regularly. Only pins from about the last 30 days are counted; older ones are treated as already seen.
Does it count my own pins?
No. Your own pins never light up your badge.
8.5Add a pin
How do I add a pin?
Tap the Camera icon on the Samaj tab icon row. Take a photo, or switch to video and record. Add a caption if you like and confirm. The pin is placed at your current location.
Can I pin a place I am not standing at?
No. A pin uses your location at the moment you capture it, so the Radar shows real places.
What happens while it uploads?
A progress message shows steps such as compressing, uploading and saving. When done, you will see "Pinned!". Photos and videos are compressed first to save data.
Who sees my pin?
Your contacts and your Samaj group (see 8.6). They are told that you added a pin (see 8.12).
Do I need approval?
No. Pins go live straight away, with no admin approval.
8.6Who sees a pin and how long it stays
Can I choose who sees a pin?
No. A pin is shared automatically with the people in your contacts who are on KuhuChat and with your Samaj group.
What if my village is merged or separated later?
A pin stays visible to anyone whose Samaj group still includes a village that was part of the group when you posted it.
How long does a pin last?
Pins have no automatic expiry. They stay on the map until you delete them. This differs from Gallery posts (3 months) and Wall posts (15 days).
8.7Pin list and multi-select
How do I see pins as a list?
Tap the List button on the Radar. A sheet opens with the pins, each with a picture, who added it, the caption and how far away it is ("N km away").
How do I jump to a pin on the map?
Tap the location icon on a pin in the list. The map moves to it.
How do I pick several pins?
Press and hold a pin in the list, then tap others. The top shows how many are selected and a Tag button to add them all to your Diary (see 8.13).
8.8Full-screen pin viewer
What can I do when a pin is open?
See the photo or video full screen, read the caption, see where it was taken and how far away it is, copy a link to the pin ("Link copied"), edit the caption on your own pins, delete your own pins, or tag it to your Diary.
Can I share a pin?
Use the link option. Anyone who opens the link must be someone who can see the pin.
8.9Captions (pin tags)
What is a pin's tag?
The short label or caption under a pin, such as "Holi 2019, Sathamba". Pins without one show as "Untagged".
How do I edit it?
Open your own pin and choose Edit caption. Type the new caption and save. Clear the box to make it "Untagged". You cannot edit other people's pins.
8.10My Pins
Where are all the pins I added?
On the Radar, tap the My Pins button. It lists your pins from newest to oldest and loads more as you scroll.
What can I do there?
Open a pin, delete pins, and long-press to select several. With a selection you can delete them together or tag them all to your Diary. Swiping a pin to the left tags it to your Diary.
8.11Delete a pin
How do I delete a pin?
Open your pin and choose delete, or use My Pins. Confirm "Delete this pin?". The message says "This cannot be undone."
Can someone else delete my pin?
No. Only you can delete your own pin.
What happens to the photo after I delete?
It is removed from KuhuChat's storage. If you tagged the pin to your Diary, the media is kept until nothing else is using it.
8.12Pin notifications
Who is notified when I add a pin?
Your contacts and members of your Samaj group. The message reads "[Name] added a Nostalgia Pin: Added a photo memory pin near you" (or "video").
What happens when I tap it?
The Radar opens at that pin, even if the app was closed.
Do I get a notification for my own pin?
No.
8.13Tag a pin to Diary
How do I keep a pin in my Diary?
In any pin list, swipe the pin left to tag it. Or open the pin and use the tag button. Choose the Diary thread. You can also select several pins and tag them together.
What does tagging do?
A copy of the pin's photo or video and caption is added to your thread, so you can ask AI about it or analyse it with the AI (see Chapters 18 and 19). The original pin stays on the Radar.
9. Wall
Your personal wall: post text, photos, voice notes, GIFs, spray art and doors, approve what others write, and how long posts last.
9.1Personal Wall
What is the Wall?
Every KuhuChat member has a personal wall, like a shared notice board in front of their house. You and your people leave messages, photos, voice notes, GIFs, drawings and small gestures there.
How do I open my own wall?
Tap the brick-wall icon at the top left of the Samaj or Contacts tab. A number on it shows new activity (see 2.3).
How do I open someone else's wall?
From the Contacts tab, open a contact's card and tap View wall. You can also reach a member's wall from the walls shown in your wall activity.
Who can write on my wall?
Your contacts and members of your Samaj group, as long as they are connected to you. People you have blocked cannot.
What does "You're no longer connected to this person's village" mean?
Your village group and theirs used to be connected but have been separated. You can still see their old wall posts, but you cannot post new ones.
What do I see on my own wall?
Approved posts from others and you, and a pending section with posts waiting for your approval (see 9.3).
9.2Posting and post types
How do I post on a wall?
Open the wall and use the bar at the bottom. It says "Write on [Name]'s wall". Type a message, or tap the attach button to choose another type of post, then send.
What can I post?
Text, emoji, a photo, a video, a voice note, a GIF (optionally with a music track), a door (see 9.7) or a spray drawing (see 9.4).
How do I record a voice note?
Use the microphone in the bar. The first time, the app asks for microphone permission. The bar shows the recording time.
What if I have no internet?
Your post shows as Queued and is sent automatically when you are back online.
Can I delete a post?
You can delete your own posts. As the wall owner, you can remove posts on your own wall.
Can I share a wall post?
Yes. Use the share option on a post to send it outside KuhuChat, forward it to a contact, to your Samaj, or to a group. Shared text carries a short KuhuChat footer.
9.3Approval and the pending panel
Who needs approval?
Posts that other people write on your wall wait for you to approve: text, photos, videos and voice notes. Emoji, doors, sprays and GIFs go live straight away.
How do I approve?
Open your wall and look at the pending section labelled "Awaiting Approval". Each post shows the author, what it is and how long ago it was sent. Tap Approve to publish it or Remove to delete it. If nothing is waiting, it says "No pending posts".
Will others see a post that is still pending?
No. It is visible only to you, and to the person who wrote it, as Pending.
How will I know someone posted?
You get a notification "[Name] posted on your wall" with a preview, and "waiting for your approval" if it needs your approval. Your wall badge counts it until you approve or remove it.
Do I need to approve my own posts?
No.
9.4Spray and sketch posts
What is a spray post?
A drawing or a piece of wall art that you create right inside the app and leave on someone's wall. Others see it replay as it was drawn, with sparkle.
How do I make one?
In the bar, choose Spray wall art. Use the tools: Spray, Draw, Line, Text and Erase, with Undo and Clear. You can also add a template (stickers, gifts, flowers) and a music track. Then tap Done.
What if I try to post an empty canvas?
You will see "Draw or write something first". Add something and try again.
Can I use more than one sticker?
One template or sticker at a time. Placing a new one asks if you want to replace the current drawing.
Are sprays checked before they appear?
No. They go live straight away. The owner is notified: "Sent you a sparkle".
9.5Stickers and glow styles
How do I move or resize a sticker?
Drag to move, pinch to resize, twist to rotate. There is also a delete button on the sticker.
What are glow styles?
Animation styles for your sparkle: Glow, Sparkle, Twinkle, Breathe, Heartbeat, Wave, Strobe, Comet, Meteor, Chase, Dotted and Alternate. While a sticker is on the canvas, a Sticker Style panel appears so you can choose one and see it live.
9.6Spray replay and GIF or MP4 export
How does a spray post play?
It replays the drawing stroke by stroke, with the glow animation, and plays the music if one was added.
Can I send a spray outside KuhuChat?
Yes. Tap share on the post. The app prepares a file (you will see "Preparing...") and shares it: an MP4 video if the post has music, otherwise an animated GIF that loops silently. It carries the KuhuChat footer.
Can I forward it inside KuhuChat?
Yes. Choose Forward to contact, Forward to Samaj or Forward to group. It is sent as a GIF or video message in chat.
Why did my export fail?
You will see an error such as "Could not generate export". Try again; if it keeps failing, restart the app.
9.7My Doors
What is a door?
A small friendly gesture, like knocking at someone's door to say "I was here". You place it on another person's wall. The owner is notified "Knocked on your wall".
How long does a door last?
5 days. Then it disappears from the wall.
Where do I see the doors I placed?
Open My Doors from your wall. It lists every wall where you have a door, how long ago, and how many days are left. When none are left it says "Expired". If you have not placed any, it says "When you place a door on someone's wall, it will appear here."
Can I take a door back?
Yes. Open My Doors, tap the door and confirm "Remove your door from this wall? It will no longer appear there." You can also select several and remove them together.
9.8Wall notifications and activity
Which wall notifications do I get?
When someone posts on your wall (with a note if it needs your approval); when a post on a wall you follow goes live ("Shared a new post on the Wall", or a photo, video or GIF); and when someone shares a spray drawing.
What do the numbers on the wall icon mean?
New posts on your wall and new activity on the walls of your contacts and Samaj members. Opening a person's wall clears their share of the count. Posts waiting for your approval stay counted until you approve or remove them.
Why does my wall badge count posts I have not seen?
Posts others write on your wall start as pending and count for you until you decide.
9.9Wall post expiry
Do wall posts stay forever?
No. Approved posts are deleted automatically after 15 days, along with their photo, video, voice note or music. Doors last 5 days.
How do I keep something?
Save the photo or video to your phone, or tag the post to your Diary before it expires.
When does the clean-up happen?
Once a day at night, so a post may stay a few hours past its date.
10. Contacts and Private Chat
Your phone contacts and how they sync, starting a private chat, sending messages, photos, voice and GIFs, deleting, offline sending, encryption and chat notifications.
10.1Contacts tab
What is on the Contacts tab?
Your phone contacts. Those who are on KuhuChat can be chatted with; contacts who have not joined show an invite option. You land on this tab after login.
How are contacts sorted?
Alphabetically, across scripts, so names in Hindi, Gujarati and English are mixed in one list.
What can I do from a contact's card?
Open a private chat; view their wall; view their memory pins; see their voice status; see if they have a business and open it; analyse your chat with them in Mitra (see 17.1); or block them.
What does "Not on app yet" mean?
That person has not joined KuhuChat. Tap Invite and choose "Invite via WhatsApp (Free)", or SMS (carrier rates may apply).
What does "This contact is private" mean?
That person's details are private to you, so some options on their card are not available.
How do I block a contact?
Open the contact and choose Block. The app warns: "[Name] won't be able to message you, see your wall, tree, business, or status, and you won't see theirs either." To undo, choose Unblock: "You will be able to see and interact with [Name] again."
10.2Contact sync
How does KuhuChat know which contacts are on the app?
With your permission, it reads your phone contacts and converts each 10-digit number into a one-way scrambled code (a hash). Only the codes are compared. Your raw contact list is not uploaded as plain numbers.
How often does it sync?
Automatically in the background, at most about once every 12 hours. Use Refresh on the Contacts tab to update sooner.
I do not see a friend who is on KuhuChat.
Check that you saved their number in your phone, that you gave contacts permission to KuhuChat ("Make sure contacts permission is granted"), and tap Refresh. They must be registered with that same number.
I denied contacts permission.
The sync is skipped and you can still chat with people you already had chats with. Allow contacts in your phone settings to see the rest.
Does the web version read my contacts?
No. A browser cannot read your phone's contacts. It shows the contacts your phone has already synced.
10.3Contact search
How do I search for a contact?
Tap the search icon on the Contacts tab and type. You can type in any script, and the search also finds names written in another script.
Can I find someone who is not in my contacts?
Samaj search (see 4.4) finds members of your Samaj. The Contacts search finds your phone contacts.
10.4Starting a chat
How do I start a chat?
Tap a contact who is on KuhuChat. The private chat opens. Type and send.
Can I chat before joining a Samaj?
Yes. Chats and contacts work without a Samaj.
How does the chat look on a tablet or browser?
On wide screens, the chat list is on the left and the open chat on the right.
10.5Text messages and status ticks
What do the ticks mean?
Sent: the message reached KuhuChat. Delivered: it reached the other person's phone. Read: they opened it. A clock or "queued" mark means it is waiting for internet.
How do I reply to a message?
Swipe the message to the right. The original appears above your reply.
What else can I do with a message?
Press and hold it for options such as Reply, Copy, Forward, Share and Delete. Swiping a message left tags it into a Diary thread.
How do I forward a message?
Choose Forward, then pick the people or groups. Photos, videos, voice messages, documents, locations and albums can be forwarded as well.
10.6Photos, video and documents
How do I send a photo or video?
Tap the attach button in the message bar and choose Gallery. You can select several; they are sent as an album. Add a caption if you want.
How do I send a document?
Choose Documents (or Files) in the attach menu and pick the file. PDFs show a small preview with the page count.
Are my photos and videos compressed?
Yes, to save data and speed up sending. GIF files are sent as they are.
Can I open and save what I receive?
Tap it to open full screen. Use the save or share option to keep it.
10.7In-app camera
How do I use the camera inside the chat?
Choose Camera in the attach menu. Switch between Photo and Video. In Photo mode tap the shutter; in Video mode tap to start and stop recording.
What controls does it have?
Flash (off, auto, torch), switch between front and back camera, quality choice and a self-timer for photos.
10.8Voice messages
How do I send a voice message?
Use the microphone button in the message bar. The first time, allow microphone permission. Record, then send. You can delete a recording before sending.
How do I listen?
Tap play on the voice message. You can move through it by dragging the bar.
10.9GIFs
How do I send a GIF?
Open the attach menu and choose GIF. Search for one and tap it to send.
Why does a GIF not move?
Check your internet. Some phones pause animations in battery-saver mode.
10.10Link previews
Why does a link show a picture and title?
When you send or receive a web link, the chat shows a small preview card with its title and image where the website provides them. Tap the card to open the link.
10.11Chat search, multi-select and swipe actions
How do I search inside a chat?
Tap the search icon at the top of the chat and type. Matching messages are highlighted.
How do I select several messages?
Press and hold one message, then tap others. The top bar shows options such as delete and forward for all selected.
What do the swipes do?
Swipe right on a message to reply. Swipe left to tag it into a Diary thread (see 18.3).
10.12Delete for everyone and delete chat
How do I delete a message?
Press and hold it and choose Delete. You can delete it for yourself only, or for everyone in the chat.
What does "delete for everyone" do?
It removes the message from the other person's chat and also removes its photo, video, voice or document from KuhuChat's storage. If the receiver had not read it, their unread count goes down.
How do I clear a whole chat?
From the Contacts tab, open the contact's menu and choose Clear chat. You can remove it from your list only, or delete it for both: "This will permanently delete your chat with [Name] for both of you. [Name] will not be removed as a contact. This cannot be undone."
What does the other person see?
After you delete a chat for everyone, they see "Chat deleted for everyone".
10.13Offline sending (outbox)
What if I have no internet when I send?
Text and media wait in a queue on your phone. The message shows in the chat as queued. When the connection returns, KuhuChat sends it automatically.
Will I lose a queued photo if I close the app?
Queued media is saved on your phone, so it is sent when the app next has internet. Keep the app installed and signed in.
10.14Chat encryption
Are my chats protected?
Message text, captions and media links are encrypted with AES-256 before they are stored, using a separate key for each chat. Messages are also protected in transit.
Is this end-to-end encryption?
No. The keys are managed by KuhuChat's service so that your chats can be restored on a new phone and across devices. Please do not share sensitive details such as bank PINs or passwords in any chat.
Who can read my chat?
In the app, only you and the people in the chat see your messages. Messages are stored encrypted, and your contacts are matched using scrambled numbers, not plain ones.
10.15Chat notifications
What do I get notified about?
New messages in private chats, groups and Samaj chats. Tapping a notification opens that chat (see 2.4).
How do I change the sound?
Use the menu, then Notification Sound (see 2.6).
I am not getting message notifications.
See 2.4. Check phone notification settings, internet and battery saver.
11. Location Sharing
Send your current location or share live location for 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours, stop sharing, and fix common location problems.
11.1Share your current location
What does "Send Current Location" do?
It sends one map pin of exactly where you are right now into the chat. The pin stays where it was sent. It does not follow you if you move. If you want the other person to see you move, use Live Location (11.2).
Where do I find it?
Open any chat, tap the attach button next to the message box, and tap Location. A sheet called Share Location opens.
Which chats support it?
Private chats, group chats and your Samaj chat all use the same Share Location sheet.
How do I send my current location?
- Open the chat and tap the attach button.
- Tap Location.
- Wait for the small map to show your position.
- Tap Send Current Location ("Share where you are right now").
The pin appears in the chat as a map picture with the word Location.
What is the small map at the top of the sheet?
A preview of where KuhuChat thinks you are. It is a picture only. You cannot move the pin or search on it. If the position looks wrong, close the sheet and open it again.
The sheet says "Could not get location". What do I do?
Tap Retry. If it keeps failing:
- Turn on your phone's location (GPS) from the quick settings.
- Allow KuhuChat to use your location when asked. If you refused earlier, open your phone's Settings, then Apps, then KuhuChat, then Permissions, and allow Location.
- Move to a place with a better signal, for example near a window or outdoors.
How accurate is the pin?
KuhuChat asks your phone for high accuracy and waits up to about 10 seconds. If your phone cannot get a fresh reading in that time, it uses the last position it knew. Indoors the pin can be off by several metres. Wait a few seconds before sending if accuracy matters.
Does the pin expire?
No. A shared current location stays in the chat like any other message. Delete it like a normal message if you no longer want it there.
What happens when the other person taps my pin?
It opens in their phone's maps app, so they can see the place and start directions.
Can I send a location to several chats at once?
Not from the Share Location sheet. Send it in one chat, then forward the message if you need it elsewhere.
Will the other person get a notification?
Yes. They see your name with "📍 Location". In the chat list, the last message shows Location.
Does sending a location cost anything?
No. KuhuChat does not charge for it. The map picture needs an internet connection to load.
11.2Live location
What is Live Location?
It shares your position as you move, so the people in a chat can follow you on a map. It is useful when you are travelling, meeting someone, or want family to know you have arrived safely.
How long can I share for?
You choose one of three options: 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours. Sharing stops by itself when the time runs out. You cannot choose "until I turn it off".
How do I start sharing my live location?
- Open the chat, tap the attach button and tap Location.
- Under LIVE LOCATION, tap Share for 15 minutes, Share for 1 hour or Share for 8 hours.
- A confirmation appears with the duration. Tap Share Location to start, or Cancel.
- Allow location access if your phone asks. For live sharing, choose the option that allows location all the time, so it keeps working when KuhuChat is in the background.
A live-location card then appears in the chat.
Why am I asked to confirm every time?
Sharing your live position is sensitive, so KuhuChat asks each time, even if your phone has already given permission.
How often does the position update?
About every 30 seconds.
What do the other people see?
A map card in the chat with a red LIVE dot and a line such as "Sharing for 12 min" or "Sharing for 1h". Tapping the card opens the Live Location screen (see 11.4).
Can I share my live location in a group or the Samaj chat?
Yes. Everyone who can read that chat can see it. Choose carefully before sharing in a large group.
Can two people share at the same time?
Yes. When the other person taps your live card, they can tap Share Location and share back for 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours. The map then shows both of you. The map shows two people at a time. If more than two people share in the same group, you see the person whose card you opened and one other.
Can I share live location in two chats at once?
No. You can share live in one chat at a time. If you start a new live share, your earlier one ends.
How do I stop sharing?
Either:
- Tap Stop (red) on your own live card in the chat.
- Open the card and tap Stop next to your name in the list of people sharing.
The card changes to Live Ended and your phone stops sending your position.
Can other people stop my live location?
No. Only you can stop your own sharing. Others can only close the map.
What happens when the time runs out?
Sharing ends automatically. The card shows Live Ended, and the sharing notification on your phone disappears. Nothing more is sent.
What if I delete the live-location message?
Sharing stops. Your phone checks about every 30 seconds, so it can take up to half a minute to end.
Will the other person get a notification?
Yes, the same as for any location: your name with "📍 Location". In the chat list the last message shows Live location.
Can the other person see where I was earlier?
The screen shows your latest position, not a trail of where you have been.
Why does it say "Waiting for GPS"?
Your phone has not yet got a position. This is common indoors or just after turning GPS on. It continues by itself as soon as a position is found. If it never does, step outside or check that location is switched on.
Does live location use a lot of battery or data?
Using GPS continuously uses extra battery, so choose the shortest duration you need. The data used is small.
11.3Background location service
Will my location keep being shared if I close the app or switch to another app?
Yes, as long as you gave permission to use location all the time. Your phone shows a "Sharing live location" notification while it runs. Swiping KuhuChat away from recent apps does not stop it. Use Stop to end sharing yourself, or wait for the time to run out.
What does the "Sharing live location" notification show?
Its title is Sharing live location. Underneath it shows "Sharing with" and the person's name (or "your contact"), or "Waiting for GPS" while a position is being found. It is there so you always know your location is being shared. It cannot be switched off while you are sharing.
Do I need to give special permission?
Yes. On your first live share, your phone asks for location access. For sharing to keep going in the background, choose the option that allows location all the time. If you only allow while using the app, sharing may pause when you leave KuhuChat.
Sharing stopped by itself or looks frozen. Why?
Common reasons:
- The time you picked ran out.
- Location or GPS was switched off.
- Your phone's battery saver or app-sleep setting stopped KuhuChat. Set KuhuChat to Unrestricted or Not optimised in battery settings.
- The message was deleted.
- You started a new live share in another chat, which ended this one.
Does KuhuChat track me when I am not sharing?
No. Your position is read only while a live share is active. When it ends, the background service stops and the notification goes away.
Is my location saved after sharing ends?
The live card stays in the chat as Live Ended, and nothing further is sent. Delete the message to remove it from the chat.
11.4Map previews and the Live Location screen
How do map previews work?
The small map in the Share Location sheet and in chat cards is a map picture loaded from KuhuChat's own map service. It needs internet. If the picture cannot load, you see a grey box with a map icon. Tapping the card still opens the full location.
What can I do on the Live Location screen?
Tap a live card to open it. You get:
- A full interactive map. Move, zoom, rotate and tilt it.
- A map-type button at the top right that switches between road map and satellite view.
- Tap the map to make it full screen. Tap the small collapse button at the top left to go back.
- A list of the people sharing, showing each name with the time left ("Sharing for 20 min") or Live Ended.
- A Share Location button, shown if you are not already sharing, so you can share back (15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours).
- An Open in Maps button when the other person's position is known. It opens your phone's Google Maps app for turn-by-turn directions to them. It is free.
Why does it say Tap to expand on the live card?
It tells you the card opens a bigger map with more options when tapped.
The other person's pin is not moving.
Their phone has not sent a new position. Possible reasons are no signal, GPS off, phone switched off, or their sharing has ended. Check whether the card says Live Ended. Updates arrive about every 30 seconds when their phone is working normally.
I tapped Open in Maps and nothing happened.
You may not have a maps app installed. You will see "Could not open Google Maps". Install or update Google Maps and try again.
Who can see my location in a chat?
Only the people in that chat. If you shared in a group or the Samaj chat, everyone in it can see. Check the chat name before you tap Share Location.
Is location sharing safe?
It is your choice every time, and you can stop it at any moment. Share live location only with people you trust, choose the shortest time you need, and stop sharing once you have arrived. Anyone in the chat can copy or screenshot a map pin you send.
12. Reminders
Set a reminder on a chat message or Diary thread, add a voice note, manage the Reminders screen, choose the sound and know what to do if one does not arrive.
12.1Set a reminder from a chat
What is a reminder?
A reminder is a notification that KuhuChat sends you at a time you choose. It can be linked to a message in a chat, to a Diary thread, or stand alone with no link.
How do I set a reminder on a message?
- Open the chat.
- Press and hold the message to select it.
- Tap the bell icon (Set reminder) in the bar at the top.
- Fill in the reminder sheet (see below) and tap Save reminder.
The bell appears only when exactly one message is selected.
What does the reminder sheet ask for?
- Remind me to: a short title.
- Note (optional): extra words that will show in the notification.
- When: tap In 1 hour, This evening, 6 PM, Tomorrow, 9 AM, or Pick date & time to choose any date and clock time.
- Add voice note (optional): record your own voice message for the reminder (see 12.3).
Under the title the sheet shows a small preview of the message the reminder is about: a thumbnail for a photo, video or GIF, or an icon and short text for a voice message, document, location, contact or text.
Which messages can I set a reminder on?
Text, photos, videos, GIFs, voice messages, documents, locations, contacts and albums.
How far ahead can I set a reminder?
Up to 3 years from today. The time must be in the future. If you pick a time that has passed you see "Pick a time in the future". If you tap Save before choosing a time you see "Pick a date and time first".
What happens if I choose "This evening, 6 PM" after 6 PM?
It is set for 6 PM the next day.
Can I set a reminder from a Diary thread?
Yes. The same sheet opens from a Diary thread. The reminder is shown as "On diary thread" with the thread name, and tapping it later opens that thread.
Can I set a reminder that is not tied to any chat?
Yes. Open the Reminders screen (12.2) and tap +. You enter a title, optional note, a time and, if you like, a voice note.
Can I change the time of a reminder?
Reminders that are not linked to a chat or Diary thread can be rescheduled. Open the Reminders screen, tap the reminder, choose a new time and tap Update reminder. Only the time changes. The title, note and voice note stay as they were. A reminder linked to a chat opens that chat when tapped, so to change its time, delete it and set a new one from the message.
Who can see my reminders?
Only you. They belong to your account and are not shared with the other person in the chat.
12.2The Reminders screen
Where do I find my reminders?
Tap the ⋮ menu on the Samaj, Contacts or Social tab and tap Reminders.
What does the screen show?
Two lists. Upcoming (with a count) holds reminders that have not fired yet, the soonest first. Past (with a count) holds reminders whose time has passed, the newest first. Past reminders appear struck through in grey. Each reminder shows its title, the chat or Diary thread it belongs to, and its date and time. Past times that were missed show in a different colour.
The screen says "No reminders yet".
You have none saved. Select a message in a chat and tap the bell, or tap + on this screen to add a standalone reminder.
What happens when I tap a reminder?
- A reminder on a chat message opens that chat.
- A reminder on a Diary thread opens the thread. If the thread has since been deleted, the sheet opens so you can change or remove the reminder.
- A standalone reminder opens the sheet so you can change its time.
How do I delete a reminder?
Tap the bin icon on the reminder, or swipe it from right to left. KuhuChat asks "Delete reminder?" and says the reminder will be removed. Tap Delete to confirm.
Does deleting a reminder delete the message or the Diary thread?
No. Only the reminder is removed.
12.3Voice reminders
Can I record my voice on a reminder?
Yes. In the reminder sheet tap Add voice note. A recording bar appears with a timer. Tap stop when you are finished, listen to the preview, and send it to attach it to the reminder.
What messages might I see while adding a voice note?
- "Recording too short": record a little longer.
- "Uploading voice note" with a percentage: wait for it to finish.
- "Could not upload voice note": check your internet and record again.
- "Finish or discard the voice note before saving": you tried to save while still recording. Finish, or delete the recording.
- "Wait for the voice note to finish uploading": try Save again in a moment.
How do I play a voice note on a reminder?
In the Reminders screen, a reminder with a voice note shows a row "Voice note" with its length. Tap it to play and tap again to pause.
Can I change the voice note later?
No. When you edit a reminder, only the time can be changed. To record a new voice note, delete the reminder and make a new one.
12.4Reminder sounds
How do I choose the sound reminders make?
Tap ⋮, then Notification Sound, then the Reminder tab. Options are Cuckoo Clock, Koel (long) and Phone default. Tap the play button next to a sound to hear it, then choose it.
Is the reminder sound the same as the message sound?
No. Reminders have their own sound setting, so changing one never changes the other. Reminder sounds are longer on purpose, so you notice them.
I never chose a sound. What do I get?
Your phone's default notification sound.
12.5When a reminder arrives
How does the reminder reach me?
KuhuChat's server checks for due reminders every minute and sends you a notification. A reminder can therefore arrive up to about a minute after its set time. Your phone needs an internet connection to receive it.
What does the notification say?
The body shows your note if you wrote one. If not, it shows a short preview of the message. If that is empty, it says "Reminder about" followed by the chat name, and otherwise "Tap to view".
What happens when I tap the notification?
A reminder on a chat opens that chat. Any other reminder opens the Reminders screen. If the reminder has a voice note, it is available to play from the Reminders screen.
What happens to a reminder after it goes off?
It moves to the Past list, struck through, so you can review it. KuhuChat removes it automatically a few minutes later. The server clears fired reminders every 5 minutes, so expect them to stay about 5 to 10 minutes. Delete it earlier yourself if you wish.
I did not get my reminder.
Check these:
- Notifications are allowed for KuhuChat in your phone settings.
- Your phone has internet.
- Battery saver is not restricting KuhuChat.
- You are signed in on this phone. A reminder is sent to the devices signed in to your account. If your account has no registered device when the reminder falls due, it is discarded.
Reminders are not repeating, so each one fires once.
Can a reminder repeat every day or week?
Not at the moment. Each reminder fires once at the time you set.
13. Social Circles and Groups
The Social tab and your groups: create a group, group info, admin controls, add members, invites, search, pinning, muting and group notifications.
13.1Social Circles page
What is the Social tab?
The Social tab (also called Social Circle) is where all your groups live. It shows the groups you are a member of, any group invites waiting for you, and a button to start a new group.
What is at the top of the Social tab?
A search icon (to search your groups), the Toolbox icon, and the ⋮ menu. The ⋮ menu on this tab includes New Group, along with Profile, App Theme, Notification Sound, Language, Blocked Users, Reminders and Logout.
Is the Social tab the same as the Business tab?
No. Social is for groups you chat in. The Business tab is the Business Circle, a directory of businesses (Chapter 14).
Do I need to join my Samaj to use groups?
No. Groups work with your contacts even before you join a Samaj. If you have joined, you can also pick people from your Samaj when you create a group.
How do I open the group list from the Contacts tab?
Tap the Social tab at the bottom of the screen.
13.2Groups list
How is my group list ordered?
Pinned groups come first. Under them, the groups with the most recent message come first. Each group shows its picture, name, the last message and the time. A date such as "Yesterday" appears for older messages. A new group with no messages shows "No messages yet".
The list is empty.
You see "No groups found. Tap + to start one!" Tap + to create your first group (13.3).
What does "Could not load groups" mean?
The app could not reach the server. Check your internet and open the tab again.
How do I pin a group to the top?
Press and hold the group and tap Pin group. Use Unpin group to undo it. Pinning is personal. Other members' lists are not changed.
What else is in the press-and-hold menu?
- Delete for me: removes the group from your own list only.
- Select multiple: tick several groups, then remove them from your list in one step. You see "Remove N groups?" and "These groups will be removed from your list.", then Remove.
- Delete for everyone: shown to group admins only. It permanently deletes the group and all messages for all members.
What is the difference between Delete for me and Delete for everyone?
Delete for me only tidies your own list. Delete for everyone removes the group and its messages for every member and cannot be undone. You are asked to confirm: "Delete group for everyone? This will permanently delete the group and all messages for all members. This cannot be undone."
Where do group invites show up?
At the top of the Social tab as an invite card with the group name and two buttons, Accept and Reject (see 13.7).

- Tap CREATE.
The group opens with a "Group created" message.
Who can I add when creating a group?

Are the people I pick added right away?
Yes. When you create a group, everyone you select becomes a member immediately, with no invite step. The invite and accept step applies only to people you add later (13.6 and 13.7).
Is a group name required?
Yes. CREATE does nothing until you type a name. You can rename the group later (13.4).
Is a photo required?
No. You can add or change it later from Group Info.
How many members can a group have?
Up to 1024, including you. The Create Group screen shows how many slots are left. If you go over, you see "Groups are limited to 1024 members".

How do I mute a group?
On Group Info, switch on Mute Notifications. The label changes to Muted. Switch it off and you see "You will be notified of new messages". Muting affects only you.
Does muting stop me from seeing messages?
No. Messages still arrive in the group. You just don't get notifications for them.
How do I leave a group?
On Group Info tap Exit Group, then Leave. You see "Leave group? You will no longer receive messages from this group." The group shows "A member left the group".
What if I am the creator or the only admin and I leave?
The group continues. If you were the creator, the next admin becomes the creator. If no admin remains, the first remaining member becomes an admin. If you were the last member, the group is deleted.
How do I delete a group for everyone?
Only an admin can. On Group Info tap Delete Group. A warning explains that the group and all messages are permanently deleted for every member. To confirm, type the exact group name, then tap Delete Group. It cannot be undone.

What is Lock Chat (Broadcast Mode)?
When an admin switches it on, only admins can send messages. Everyone else can read but not post. It is useful for announcements. Switch it off to let everyone write again.

Why can I not select some people?
They may already be members, or they may already have a pending invite. A person who has been invited and has not yet answered cannot be invited again.
Is there a maximum group size when adding?
Yes, 1024. Pending invites count towards that limit too.
Are added people members straight away?
No. They receive an invite and become members only when they accept (13.7).
13.7Group invites
What happens when an admin adds me to a group?
You get a notification titled Group invite that says you have been invited to join the group and can accept or decline. Tapping it opens the Social tab, where an invite card is waiting at the top of your list.
How do I accept or decline?
On the invite card, tap Accept to join, or Reject to decline. After you accept, the group appears in your list like any other.
Does the admin find out if I decline?
No. Declining simply removes your invite. The admin is not notified.
I never got the invite notification.
Check that notifications are allowed for KuhuChat. Even without the notification, open the Social tab. The invite card shows there as long as the invite is still pending.
Can an admin cancel an invite?
Yes. Admins see Pending Members on Group Info and can remove an invite before it is answered.
Can I be added to a group without my consent?
Not through Add Members. People added later always get an invite they can decline. The exception is a group's creator choosing people at the moment the group is created, who become members straight away. If you do not want to stay in a group, tap Exit Group.
13.8Group search
How do I find a group?
On the Social tab tap the search icon. Type part of the group name in "Search groups by name...". Matching groups appear as you type. Group member names are shown under each group.
What if nothing matches?
You see "No groups found" or, after you type, "No groups matching" with your search words.
Does search show groups I am not a member of?
No. It searches only the groups you belong to.

13.9Group notifications
What do I see when someone posts in a group?

What happens when I tap it?
KuhuChat opens that group chat on the Social tab, even if the app was closed.
Will I be notified for groups I have muted?
No. A muted group sends you no notifications.
What do the numbers on the Social tab and the groups mean?
The Social tab badge counts unread group chats. Each group in the list shows its own unread count. Opening a group clears its count.
Do I get notified when someone is added, removed or leaves?
These show as notes inside the group chat, such as "Group created" and "A member left the group". Invited people also get a Group invite notification.
How do I stop all group notifications?
Mute each group (13.4), or turn off notifications for KuhuChat in your phone's settings.
14. Business

14.1Business Circles (browse)
What is the Business tab?
The Business tab (called Business Circle) is a directory of shops, manufacturers, wholesalers and service providers. The header reminds you that businesses are verified with 2+ govt. credentials.

The home screen shows 25 industry tiles. Tap an industry to see its business types (labels) with the number of businesses in each. Tap a type to see the list of businesses.
What does the "V" mark mean?
"V" marks a verified business: one whose owner has verified at least 2 government credentials, including PAN. Businesses without it show as Unverified.
What is an Unverified business?
These are shops listed from public map data that nobody has claimed yet. They always appear in their own section below the verified businesses. See 14.7 and 14.14 to claim one.
How is the list ordered?
Businesses are ranked by how well they match your search or type, then verified status, then a live offer, then rating, then distance.
Which distance do I see on a card?
The straight-line distance from your phone's GPS. If your phone has no position, the distance is measured from the area you picked, and the text says so.
Why does the list show "Near:" with a place name?
It shows the place you are searching around. By default it is your phone's own place, such as your town. Pick another area in the filter to change it. It resets to your phone's place each time you open the screen.
Why is the list empty or short?
Check that location is on and permission is allowed. If you see "No verified businesses yet", no business in that area has completed verification. Try a wider area, or search by name.
Why does my business not appear in the Circle?
A business appears in the verified list only when it has at least 2 verified credentials and its PAN is verified (14.14). The Business Hub shows a checklist of what is still missing.
Can I see who follows a business?
Yes. Followers and Following lists are in 14.10.
14.2Business Hub (My Business)
What is the Business Hub?
It is the home page of one business. It has a cover photo, a Follow button for visitors, and three tabs: Products & Services, Filings and About.
How do I open my own business?
Tap the business bag icon on the Samaj tab. It opens your businesses with full editing. When you open someone else's business, it is read-only.
Why is my bag icon not green?
It turns green only when you have at least one product or service with a photo and a price saved. A name or logo alone is not enough.
What does the "missing items" checklist show?
It lists what your business still needs to appear in Business Circle: business name, business type, at least one product or service with a photo and price, a full address or saved location, and a verified PAN.
How many businesses can I have?
Up to 3 per person. For another shop, godown or branch, create a separate business.
What happens when I open another member's business?
With no business you see "No business profile yet". With one business it opens directly. With two or more, you pick which one to view.
Who can edit a business?
Only its owner. Visitors can view, follow and rate it.
Can I delete a business?
Yes, from your business list. Deleting removes its products, services and filings, so confirm before you do it.

What details can I set?
Name, logo and cover photo, business type, About text, contact numbers, address and location, products and services, offers, FAQs and filings.
Which phone number is shown?

Is the address required?
Yes. You will see "Address is required. Please enter your business address."
Can I change details later?
Yes. Edit any time from your own Business Hub.
14.4Categories and labels
How do I choose my business type?

Can I add more types?
Yes, up to 3 extra labels besides the main one. Remove one first if you reach the limit.
Does the label decide if I am a shop, manufacturer or wholesaler?
Yes. The kind is worked out from your main label. People see shops, clinics, hotels, malls and restaurants grouped as "Local business".
What if I can't find my type?
Search with a simpler or related word. Names and spellings are matched loosely.
14.5Locations and map pin
How do I set my business location?
Open Business Locations, search for your place or drop a pin on the map, and add the full address.
Can one business have many locations?

What location labels exist?
Shop, Godown, Showroom, Warehouse, Office and Other.
Why does the pin matter?
Distance, Autofind and nearby alerts all use your saved position. Without a pin, customers cannot find you by distance.
14.6Products and services
How do I add a product or service?
Open the Products & Services tab and add an item with a name, photos and a price. Group items under a heading so customers can browse.
Does a product need a photo and price?
At least one product or service must have both for your business to count as complete and to turn the bag icon green.
Can customers find my items by search?
Yes. Product and service names appear in search suggestions marked "V" for verified shops. Related words are matched, so "pant" can find trousers.
Is there a price list?
Yes, you can keep a price list for your business.
14.7Search and filters
How do I search?
Type in the search box. Suggestions appear as you type: business types, shop names and item names.
What can I filter by?
State, District and Taluka. A business matches if its location is in that area. You can also search near a place you pick by place search, map pin or GPS. Shops within about 20 km of that point match.
What does Search online do?
It looks for unverified shops in the area you picked, anywhere in India.
What is Recent?
Your recent searches, so you can repeat them quickly. Tap Reset to clear the filters.
What does "Claim this business" mean?
If an Unverified shop is yours, tap Is this your business? then Claim. A copy is created in your account with 0 verified credentials. It stays out of the verified list until you verify it (14.14).
Does claiming make the business verified?
No. Claiming only gives you ownership. Verification needs credentials and PAN.
14.8Autofind (nearby)
What is Autofind?
A list of every nearby business that matches the categories you choose, right now. You do not have to follow them.
How do I set what I want to see?
Open Autofind preferences and choose categories. The picker shows only categories that have shops within your radius, with a shop count and a filter box.
What if I choose nothing?
An empty choice means show everything.
A category I picked has vanished.
It has no shops nearby right now. It stays saved and comes back when shops appear, for example when you travel.
Does Autofind cost money?
No. It uses your phone's GPS and shows saved shop data.
Why are verified shops first?
Verified shops always appear first. Unverified shops that can be claimed appear below them.

Something went wrong when I tapped Follow.
Check your internet and try again.

Which shops can alert me?
Shops you follow, unverified shops you added with the bell button, and shops picked automatically from your Autofind categories.
How many shops can be watched?
20 in all. Followed shops get slots first, then shops you added, then automatic picks.
Will I get the same alert again and again?
No. Each shop has a 12-hour cooldown.
What permission do I need?
Location and notifications. After you follow a business, KuhuChat asks for location while using the app. On newer Android you then open Settings and choose Allow all the time, so alerts work when the app is closed.

How do I add one?
In the About tab tap Add FAQ and write both a question and an answer. Both are required.
Can I edit, delete or reorder?

15. Mitra
The star button that holds your two AI helpers: Relation Analysis for your chats, and the Diary with its photo and video analysis. Covers where to find it, language, voice and limits.
15.1What Mitra is
What is Mitra?
Mitra is the round star button on the Samaj, Contacts and Social tabs. It opens one screen with two features: Relations, which analyses your chat with one person, and Diary, where you collect threads and ask the AI about them.
Is Mitra a general chatbot?
No. Mitra does not chat about any topic. Its AI works only on your own chat with a person you pick (Chapter 17) and on the things you have saved in your Diary (Chapters 18 and 19).
Is Mitra a real person?
No. Mitra is an AI that uses Google's Gemini. Treat its answers as a summary of your own material, not as advice from a person.
Where do I find Mitra?
Tap the star button at the bottom right of the Samaj, Contacts or Social tab. It hides while a chat is open.
What is on the Mitra screen?
Two tabs at the top.
- DIARY: your Thread Diary, with AI questions and photo and video analysis (see 15.2).
- RELATIONS: pick a person and analyse your chat with them.
What is the Mitra icon on a contact's tile?
It opens Relation Analysis for that person directly (see 17.1). It is dimmed when the person is not on KuhuChat yet.
Is Voice Status part of Mitra?
No. Voice Status is a separate feature with its own megaphone icon (Chapter 16).
Does Mitra work offline?
No. The AI runs on KuhuChat's servers, so you need internet.
Does Mitra cost anything?
The app shows no separate charge for Mitra. Questions and analyses have daily limits (see 18.4 and 19.7).
15.2Diary and its AI
What can the AI do in the Diary?
- Ask a question about one thread.
- Analyse selected photos and videos and keep the result under Past analyses.
Chapter 18 explains the Diary and Chapter 19 explains photo and video analysis.
How do I reach the AI inside a Diary thread?
Open a thread and tap the Mitra icon. A menu offers Select items to analyze, Past analyses and Ask a question.
How does image analysis work?
Choose Select items to analyze, tick up to 15 photos or one video, and start. The AI looks at them and writes a summary. It is saved under Past analyses so you can read it again or ask about it.
What does the AI see in my photos?
Your photo is made smaller and sent to Google's Gemini AI for analysis. For one video up to 2 minutes, the whole video with its sound is sent. If the file is too big, a few pictures from it are sent instead (see 19.5). Only photos and videos you select are analysed.
Does the AI make things up?
It is designed to answer only from your tagged Diary items and your past analyses, and it shows the sources it used as small thumbnails. If nothing relevant is found, it says so instead of guessing.
How many questions can I ask?
You can ask 50 questions per thread in any 24 hours. When you reach the limit, try again later.
Can I speak my question?
Yes. The Ask a question box has a mic for dictation.
Can I ask about an earlier analysis?
Yes. Open it from Past analyses and choose Ask about this analysis. The next question is answered from that analysis only.
Who can see my Diary analysis?
Your own analyses are saved in your Diary. Threads you share show their items to the people you share them with. See Chapter 18.
15.3Mitra language
Which languages does Mitra reply in?
Relation Analysis replies in 11 languages: Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi and Urdu. Odia and Assamese are not available for Mitra yet, although the rest of the app supports them.
How do I choose Mitra's language?
Open Mitra, go to the RELATIONS tab and tap the language chip. Pick your language. It is saved to your account.
What if I have not chosen one?
Mitra guesses from your state. If it cannot, it uses Hindi.
Does it follow the app language?
No. Mitra has its own language setting, separate from the app language (see 2.1).
If I change the language, is the result rewritten?
Yes. The Relation Analysis summary is created again in the new language.
15.4Voice and speaking
Does Mitra speak its answers in Relations?
Yes. Replies are read aloud in your Mitra language and also shown as text.
Can I mute it?
Yes. Tap the speaker button to mute or unmute. Text replies still appear.
Can I speak my question instead of typing?
Yes. Tap the mic, speak, and tap again to stop. If the microphone is not available, allow microphone permission for KuhuChat in your phone settings.
How do I change the voice?
Tap the voice button to open voice settings.
- Voice: male or female.
- Speed: 0.5x to 2.0x.
- Pitch: -20 to +20.
Do my settings stay?
Speed and pitch are saved on your phone. They do not move to a new phone.
The voice does not play.
Check your volume and internet, and check that Mitra is not muted.
15.5Troubleshooting
Mitra says "First select a member".
Relation Analysis works on one person's chat at a time. Tap the member button at the top, pick someone and tap Analyze first.
Mitra says it could not find chat data.
There are no readable text messages between you and that person yet. Chat first, then try again.
Something went wrong.
Check your internet and try again. An analysis can take up to a minute.
Is my use of Mitra private?
See 17.4 for what is read and sent in Relation Analysis, and Chapter 18 for the Diary.
16. Voice Status
Record a short voice note for everyone, or leave one for a single person. Covers your status, your inbox, icons and when notes expire.
16.1Record, play and delete your status
What is a voice status?
Voice Status is a short voice note you leave for your people. When someone opens your status, your note plays first, like a status audio. In the app it appears as My Status and Record a Status Note. It is a separate feature from Mitra.
Is Voice Status part of Mitra?
No. Voice Status uses the megaphone icon. Mitra is the star button for Relation Analysis and Diary (Chapter 15).
What is the difference between a status and a message to one person?
A status is your voice note for everyone in a list. A voice message is a note you leave for one specific person, and it goes into that person's inbox (16.4).
Where do I record my status?
Tap the megaphone icon in the top bar of the Samaj tab (for your Samaj) or the Contacts tab (for your contacts).
How do I record it?
Open your status screen and tap the large red mic to start. Tap it again to stop. The audio uploads and you see "Status updated". If you see "Upload failed", try again.
What if the microphone does not work?
Allow microphone permission for KuhuChat in your phone settings, then try again.
How do I play my own status?
Your status card shows its length and how long ago you recorded it. Tap play.
How do I change my status?
Record a new one. It replaces the old one in that same list.
How do I delete my status?
Tap the bin icon on the card and confirm. It is removed for everyone.
How long can a status be?
The app shows the length as minutes and seconds. I found no fixed limit, so keep it short.
Does it work offline?
No. It must upload to be heard.
16.2Community status vs Contacts status
Why are there two statuses?
You can say different things to different people. The Community status is for your Samaj. The Contacts status is for your contacts.
Does recording one change the other?
No. Each list keeps its own status.
Which megaphone do I use?
The one on the Samaj tab for the Community status. The one on the Contacts tab for the Contacts status.
Is there a status on the Social tab?
No.
Can I use it before joining a Samaj?
You can use the Contacts status. The Community status needs a Samaj.
16.3Hearing someone's status
How do I hear someone's status?
Tap the megaphone icon on their tile. Their status plays automatically when the screen opens, and you can replay it with the play button.
What does the number on the megaphone mean?
They have a status you have not heard yet.
Can I open the status of someone not on KuhuChat?
No. The icon is dimmed and tells you they are not on the app yet.
Can I open the status of someone I blocked, or who blocked me?
No. You will see a message that the person is blocked.
Do I know who listened to my status?
No. You see only the voice messages people leave for you (16.4).
How do I stop people hearing it?
Delete it (16.1). It also disappears by itself (16.7).
16.4Leaving a voice message and your inbox
How do I leave a voice message for someone?
Open their status screen. Use the mic in the bar at the bottom, speak, then stop and send. The message goes to their inbox for that list (Samaj or Contacts).
Can I see what I sent?
Yes. Your own sent messages appear in "messages I sent" on that person's screen.
Can I change a message I sent?
Yes. Recording again replaces your earlier message to that person.
Can I delete one?
Yes. Both the person who sent it and the inbox owner can delete it. Deleting is permanent.
Where do I find my inbox?
On your own status screen, below your recording card.
Who sees my inbox?
Only you. A visitor sees only the messages they sent.
Is the Samaj inbox separate from the Contacts inbox?
Yes. Each list has its own inbox and its own badge.
16.5Unread and listened
How do I know a message is new?
Unheard messages are shown first. When you play one, it is marked as heard and moves down.
Where is the badge?
On the Samaj or Contacts tab, counting unheard voice messages left for you in that list.
How does a badge clear?
Listen to the message. For another person's status, listen to that status.
16.6Icons and tile order
Which icon is the voice status?
The megaphone (speaker-style) icon. It sits in the top bar of the Samaj and Contacts tabs for your own status, and on each tile for that person's status.
Why did a tile move to the top?
A person posted a new status or left you a message. The tile keeps its place once you have heard it.
Why did the number disappear?
You listened, the person deleted it, or it expired (16.7).
16.7Expiry
Does a status last forever?
No. It is deleted automatically about 12 hours after you record it. The check runs every hour, so it can stay a little longer.
What about voice messages in an inbox?
They are deleted after 2 days.
Are expired recordings removed from storage?
Yes, the audio file is deleted too.
Can I get it back?
No. Record a new one.
17. Relation Analysis
Mitra reads your chat with one person and shows real numbers plus a short, honest summary. Covers how to start it, what it counts, follow-up questions and privacy.
17.1What it analyses and how to start
What is Relation Analysis?
Relation Analysis is one of the two features inside Mitra (the star button). Mitra reads the text chat between you and one person and shows how much you talk, who starts conversations and a short written summary. The other feature is the Diary (Chapter 18).
How do I start it from a tile?
In Contacts, tap the Mitra icon on a person's tile. The analysis opens and starts for that person.
How do I start it from the Mitra button?
Tap the Mitra button, open the RELATIONS tab, tap the member button at the top, pick a person (search by name) and tap Analyze.
Who can I pick?
Members of your own Samaj, including villages merged into it.
Which chats are read?
Your private chat with that person, and your chat with them in the Samaj chat if one exists, merged.
Does it read photos, voice notes or other media?
No. Text messages only.
How many messages does it use?
Up to the earliest 500 messages of each chat. For the written summary, if there are more than 300 messages, it uses the first 50 and the latest 250.
What if there are no messages?
Mitra says it could not find chat data between you two. Nothing is made up.
What if one of us has blocked the other?
Nothing is analysed.
Which language is the result in?
Your Mitra language (15.3).
17.2Computed stats
What numbers does it show?
Total messages and how many each of you sent, with the percentage, total words and average words per message, first and last message dates, days between them, the number of days you talked, and how many days each of you sent the first message.
Who calculates the numbers?
The app, directly from your messages. The AI never guesses them.
What does "who starts" mean?
On each day with messages, the person who sent the first message counts as having started that day.
What are "days with activity"?
The number of different calendar days with at least one message.
Will the numbers change?
Yes. They update when you run a new analysis after more chat.
17.3AI summary and follow-up questions
What is the AI summary?
A short plain-language description of the conversation, written by an AI, using only what is in the chat.
Will it flatter us?
No. It is designed to be blunt. If the chat is mostly greetings, emoji or short replies, it says so.
Is it advice or a score?
No. It describes patterns in the chat. It does not judge, diagnose or give relationship advice.
Can I ask more questions?
Yes. After an analysis, type or speak a question about that chat. Answers use only the chat and the analysis, and Mitra says so when the chat does not contain the answer.
Can I ask about other topics?
No. If no person is selected, Mitra asks you to select a member first. Questions are answered only about the selected person's chat.
Will I get the same result every time?
If nothing has changed, the saved result is shown. New messages or a language change run a fresh analysis.
It failed or gave nothing.
Check your internet and try again. It can take up to a minute. If the AI fails, Mitra shows a message and does not invent a result.
Is the other person told?
I found no notification sent to them.
17.4Privacy and what it never invents
Can Mitra read my chats?
Only when you ask for an analysis, and only the chat with the person you choose. Chats are stored locked and are unlocked on your phone for this.
Where does the AI see my messages?
To write the summary and answer questions, the chat text is sent to KuhuChat's server and its AI provider. Do not analyse chats that contain passwords, banking details or other secrets.
Who sees the result?
Only you. It is saved under your own account and the other person cannot see it.
Is my message text written to logs?
No. Diagnostics record counts and error codes only.
What does Mitra never do?
It never makes up numbers, invents a story or shows a fake score when the AI fails.
18. Thread Diary
Your private case files inside KuhuChat. Collect photos, videos, voice notes, documents and messages from anywhere in the app into named threads, and ask the AI about them.
18.1Diary home and threads
What is the Thread Diary?
It is a place to keep things together. You make a thread with a name, such as "Pep Food Industry" or "House repair", and save photos, videos, voice notes, documents, messages and notes into it. A thread stays until you delete it.
Where do I find it?
Tap the Mitra star button and open the DIARY tab.
What do I see on the Diary home?
Your list of threads, with the newest activity on top. Each row shows the thread name and how many items it holds. A search bar at the top finds threads by name.
How do I create a thread?
Tap + on the Diary home, type a name (for example, "Pep Food Industry") and tap Create. The thread opens straight away. You can also create one while saving something into the Diary (see 18.3).
What does the empty Diary say?
"No threads yet, tag something with 'd' or tap + to start one." Saving anything with the Diary button, or tapping +, starts your first thread.
Can I search my threads in any script?
Yes. Typing "paresh" in English letters also finds a thread named in Gujarati or Hindi, and the other way round. See 23.1.
What is inside a thread?
Items shown as chat-style bubbles in time order, with date headings and a time on each. A bar at the bottom lets you add more.
Can I open a photo, video or document?
Yes. Tap a photo or video to open the full-screen viewer, which supports pinch-zoom. Tap a document to download it and open it in an app on your phone. A location item shows a small map, and tapping it opens Google Maps.
Can I search inside a thread?
Yes. You can search item captions in a thread, also across scripts.
Does the Diary keep the place and time?
Yes. Each item keeps the date and time it happened, the time you saved it, and where it was saved from, such as "Chat with Ramesh", "Rajesh's Wall" or "Community Radar". Items that carry a location keep it.
Is my Diary private?
Yes. A thread is visible only to you.
18.2Add notes, photos, voice and video
How do I add something directly to a thread?
Open the thread and use the bar at the bottom, the same way as a chat.
- Type a note and tap send.
- Tap the attachment button for Gallery, Camera, Document, Audio, GIF, Location or Contact.
- Tap the mic to record a voice note.
How do I record a voice note?
Tap the mic in the bottom bar and speak. You can listen to it again before sending, then send it. It is added to the thread as a voice note.
Can I add a photo or video from my phone?
Yes. Choose Gallery for existing ones, or Camera to take a new one.
Can I add my location?
Yes. Choose Location. It saves your current position once. There is no live tracking in the Diary.
Can I add a caption?
Items keep a caption, which is a short note about the item, such as "machine torn down". Captions are searchable.
Can I delete an item?
Only the thread owner can delete items. Long-press an item to select it, tap more items to add them, then tap Delete. If someone else tries, they see "Only the thread owner can delete items."
What happens to the original photo if I delete it from the Diary?
Only the Diary's copy goes away. The original in the chat, gallery, radar or wall stays. The file is removed from storage only when nothing else still uses it.
18.3Save things into the Diary from chat, gallery, radar and wall
How do I save something into the Diary from other places?
Use the Diary (tag) action. You choose a thread, or start a new one on the spot, and the item is saved with a note of where it came from.
How do I save a chat message?
- Swipe a message to the left.
- Or long-press messages to select one or more, then tap the Diary button in the top bar.
How do I save from the Gallery?
Swipe a gallery post to the left. To save several, select them and use the Diary button.
How do I save a pin from the Community Radar?
Swipe a pin to the left, or tap the Diary button in the full-screen viewer. To save several, select them in the pin list and tap the Diary button.
How do I save a wall post?
Swipe a wall post to the left.
What can I save from a chat?
Text messages, photos, videos, voice notes, documents and locations. A location from a chat appears in the Diary as a map.
What cannot be saved?
Wall doors, because there is nothing meaningful to store. You cannot save from places that have no Diary button.
What does the thread picker show?
All your threads straight away. Type to narrow the list, or create a new thread right there.
Is tagging free and fast?
Yes. Saving something to the Diary is instant and costs nothing. The AI runs only when you ask a question or start an analysis (see 18.4).
Does the original stay where it was?
Yes. Saving makes a Diary copy of the reference. The chat message, gallery post, pin or wall post remains as it was.
18.4Ask the AI about a thread
How do I ask the AI about a thread?
Open the thread, tap the Mitra icon and choose Ask a question. Type your question, or tap the mic to dictate, and send.
What can I ask?
Anything about what is saved in that thread, for example "When was the machine repaired?" or "What did Ramesh say about the price?".
Does the AI make things up?
It answers only from the items and past analyses in your thread. Every answer shows the sources it used as small thumbnails, such as a photo, video, note or a past analysis. If nothing relevant is found, it says so.
How many questions can I ask?
50 questions per thread in any 24 hours. After that, try again later.
How does the AI look at photos and videos?
Use Select items to analyze to pick photos and videos. The AI studies them and writes a summary, which is saved in Past analyses. Chapter 19 explains this in detail.
Can I ask about an earlier analysis?
Yes. Open it from Past analyses and choose Ask about this analysis. The next question is answered from that analysis only.
Is my Diary sent to an AI?
Questions and the items they need are sent to KuhuChat's server and Google's Gemini AI to produce an answer. Only your thread's items are used.
Does the AI cost me anything?
The app shows no charge for it. The daily limits above apply.
18.5Diary reminders
Can I set a reminder for a thread?
Yes. From the Diary home, long-press a thread to select it and tap the reminder button. You can also set one from inside a thread.
Can I set reminders for several threads at once?
No. A reminder points at one thread, so the reminder button works when exactly one thread is selected.
What happens when it fires?
You get a notification at the time you chose. It follows the normal reminder rules in Chapter 12.
18.6Delete or leave a thread
How do I delete a thread?
Swipe a thread to the right, or long-press to select threads and tap Delete. You are asked "Delete thread?" before it goes.
What does deleting remove?
The thread and every item in it, permanently. The originals in your chats, gallery, radar and wall are not removed.
Can I delete several threads?
Yes. Select them with long-press and tap Delete. If some of the selected threads are owned by you and some are shared with you, the owned ones are deleted and the shared ones are left.
What does "Leave thread" mean?
If a thread was shared with you, you cannot delete it. Leaving removes your access and leaves the thread for its owner.
Can a non-owner delete a thread?
No. You will see "Only the thread owner can delete this thread."
Are other people told when a thread is deleted?
If a thread had people it was shared with, each of them gets a notification, "Thread deleted", saying the thread was deleted by the owner and is no longer available.
Can I get a deleted thread back?
No. Deleting is permanent.
19. Photo and Video Analysis
Pick photos or one video from a Diary thread and let the AI write down what it can see and hear. Covers what to select, the 2-minute video limit, reading the result, daily limits, past analyses and privacy.
19.1What photo and video analysis is
What is photo and video analysis?
It is a feature of the Thread Diary (Chapter 18). You pick photos, or one video, from a thread, and the AI writes a short account of what is actually in them: a summary, a timeline, the people, objects and places it can see, and anything it is unsure about. The result is saved in the thread so you can read it again or ask about it.
Is this the same as "Cook"?
Yes. Some screens in the app still call an analysis a "cook", for example the Past cooks list and the Delete this cook? message. Everything in this chapter is about that same feature.
Does it make a video or a highlight reel?
No. The result is text, plus a row of small pictures from what you picked. It does not create a new video.
Where do I start it?
Open a Diary thread and tap the Mitra icon (the star). Choose Select items to analyze. The thread's items become tickable. Tick what you want and tap the sparkle icon in the top bar ("Cook selected"). A window titled Analyze this thread opens.
Is it part of Mitra?
Yes. It sits under the Mitra icon inside a Diary thread, together with Past analyses and Ask a question (Chapter 15). It does not read your chats. That is Relation Analysis (Chapter 17).
Does it work without internet?
No. The analysis runs on KuhuChat's servers, so you need a connection.
Do I have to analyse anything to use the Diary?
No. Saving things to a thread is free and instant (18.3). The AI runs only when you start an analysis or ask a question.
19.2Choosing what to analyse
What can I analyse?
Photos, or exactly one video. You cannot mix photos and a video in the same analysis, and you cannot analyse two videos together.
How many photos can I pick?
Up to 15. On the thread screen you can tick up to 5 items. If you tick more you see "Select up to 5 items to cook." Once the Analyze this thread window is open, you can tap more photos there, up to 15.
What happens if I tick a video?
The video becomes your only selection and everything else is un-ticked. While a video is selected, photos cannot be added. Un-tick the video first to go back to photos.
Can I analyse text notes, voice notes or documents?
No. Only photos and videos are analysed. Text notes appear in the picker as grey tiles, but if you tick one the analysis stops with "Only images or a single video can be selected for analysis."
What does the orange warning on a video tile mean?
The video is longer than 2 minutes, or the app does not know its length, so a full analysis may not be possible (19.5).
The window says "No photos, videos, or notes in this thread yet."
The thread has nothing in it yet. Save some photos or videos into the thread first (18.3).
Can I choose items from different threads?
No. An analysis covers one thread at a time.
Is my selection kept if I close the window?
No. Select again next time.
19.3Adding your own instruction
What is the "Add a message for this analysis" box?
An optional note to the AI, for example "Count how many people are in the photos" or "What is written on the board?". It is at the bottom of the window.
How long can my message be?
Up to 300 characters. Anything longer is cut off.
Will the AI always do what I ask?
It follows your note only as far as the pictures and the video actually show. It does not invent things to satisfy a request, and it may say in "Worth noting" that the evidence does not support what you asked for.
Do I have to write a message?
No. Leave it empty for a general analysis.
19.4Analysing photos
How do I analyse photos?
- Open the Diary thread and tap the Mitra icon.
- Tap Select items to analyze.
- Tick the photos, up to 5, and tap the sparkle icon.
- In the Analyze this thread window, tap more photos if you want, up to 15.
- Add a message if you like, then tap Analyze (the button shows the number of items).
The window shows "Looking through your photos and videos…" and then "Analyzing…".
What does the AI do with my photos?
Each photo is made much smaller on your phone and sent, through KuhuChat's server, to Google's Gemini AI. The AI then looks at the pictures directly and describes what it sees.
Does it count people and read text in photos?
It describes what it can see, including how many people appear and what is clearly written in the picture. It does not guess names, relationships or the occasion.
How long does it take?
Usually a few seconds to a minute. Keep the window open until it finishes.
Can I analyse a photo that is still uploading?
Wait until the photo shows properly in the thread. A photo without a loaded picture cannot be analysed.
19.5Analysing a video
How do I analyse a video?
Open the Diary thread, tap the Mitra icon, choose Select items to analyze, tick one video and tap the sparkle icon. In the window tap Analyze video (full + audio). The window shows "Analyzing full video and audio…".
How long can the video be?
Up to 2 minutes. If the video is longer you see a message such as "This video is 2:30 — full analysis supports up to 2:00." Add a shorter clip to the thread and analyse that instead.
Does the AI listen to the sound?
Yes. In a full video analysis the whole video file is sent, with its audio. What it hears is shown under "From voice notes" in the result details.
My video is under 2 minutes but it did not get a full analysis.
A very large video file (about 19 MB or more) cannot be sent whole. The app then switches by itself to a quicker method: it takes up to 15 pictures from the video and analyses those. This quicker method does not listen to the sound. It uses only one analysis from your daily limit.
How does it count people in a video?
It goes through the scene area by area, then checks again for people who are easy to miss, such as a child on someone's lap, someone asleep or leaning, someone partly hidden, or someone who appears only briefly. Counting can still be wrong, so the result carries a confidence label (19.6).
Can I analyse more than one video?
Only one video per analysis. Run a separate analysis for each video.
Can I analyse a video together with photos?
No. A video uses the whole analysis on its own.
19.6Reading the result
What do I see when the analysis finishes?
A short summary, a row of small pictures (up to 8) from what you picked, and a Show details button. For a video you also see a line such as "Analyzed the full 1:20 video, including audio." and a confidence label.
What is in Show details?
Sections appear only when they have something to say:
- Timeline: what happened, in order.
- People: who or how many can be seen, without made-up names.
- Objects and Locations: things and places that are actually seen or stated.
- From voice notes: for a video, what was heard in its sound.
- From documents: text that was clearly readable.
- Worth noting: things the AI is not sure about.
What does the confidence label mean?
It appears on video analyses. High confidence means the details are clear. Medium confidence means some details may be uncertain. Low confidence means please double-check the details below.
It says "Only 2 of 5 items here have a caption or recognizable detail."
Most of the pictures gave the AI very little to work with, for example dark, blurry or empty photos with no caption. The summary will say there is not enough detail rather than make something up. Add captions or pick clearer photos and try again.
Can the AI be wrong?
Yes. It can miss people or misread a scene. Treat the result as a helpful summary of your own pictures, not as proof, and look at the originals when something matters.
Why does the summary sound plain, not warm or emotional?
It is designed to describe only what the evidence shows. A thread might be a repair, an errand or a document trail as easily as a celebration, so it does not assume a happy story.
Can I share the result?
Yes. Tap Share. Your phone's share sheet opens with the summary text, and for a video the line about what was analysed. Pictures are not included.
What does Redo do?
It takes you back to the picker with nothing selected, so you can choose again and add a different message. It does not run again by itself, and a new run uses another analysis from your daily limit.
Can I ask the AI more about the result?
Yes. Open the analysis from Past analyses and tap Ask about this analysis (see 18.4).
19.7Daily limit
How many analyses can I run?
Free accounts get 10 analyses in any rolling 24 hours, counted across all your threads together. Premium accounts have a higher limit.
What do I see when I reach the limit?
A message: "You've used your analyses for today. Try again tomorrow, or upgrade for more."
When do I get them back?
Each analysis frees up 24 hours after you ran it. It is not a reset at midnight.
Does a failed analysis use one?
It may, because the limit is counted when the analysis starts. A video that is too long is refused before anything is counted.
Does a video that falls back to the quicker method use two?
No. It uses one.
Do my Diary questions use the same limit?
No. Asking questions has its own limit of 50 questions per thread in 24 hours (18.4).
Does it cost money?
The app shows no charge for analyses.
19.8Past analyses
Where are my earlier analyses?
In the thread, tap the Mitra icon and choose Past analyses. The screen is titled Past cooks. It shows the thread's 20 most recent analyses, newest first.
What does each row show?
A short summary, up to 3 small pictures, and how many of the items had enough detail (for example "3/5 items").
How do I find one?
Type in the Search past cooks… box at the top.
How do I open one?
Tap its row. The saved result opens with the same Show details button.
How do I ask about an old analysis?
Open it and tap Ask about this analysis. Your next question is answered from that analysis only.
How do I delete an analysis?
Tap the bin icon on its row and confirm "Delete this cook?". It says "This removes it and its analysis permanently. This cannot be undone." Your original photos and videos stay in the thread.
The list says "No cooks yet for this thread."
You have not run an analysis on this thread yet.
Who can see my analyses?
They are saved inside the thread, so they follow the thread's privacy (see 18.1).
19.9Privacy and storage
What is sent to the AI?
Only the photos or the video you select, and your optional message. Photos are shrunk first. For one video the whole file is sent, with its sound, unless it is too big, in which case up to 15 pictures from it are sent.
Which AI is used?
Google's Gemini, called by KuhuChat's server. The AI is not given your chats or other threads.
What does KuhuChat keep?
The written result, and the small pictures that were analysed, so that you can ask follow-up questions about that analysis later. Deleting the analysis removes both.
Should I analyse private documents or ID photos?
Avoid it. Anything you select leaves your phone for the AI service, so do not analyse pictures of passwords, bank details or ID papers.
19.10Troubleshooting
It says "Something went wrong. Try again."
Check your internet and tap Try again. Large videos can take a minute or more.
The button at the bottom says "Select items to analyze".
Nothing is selected yet. Tap at least one photo, or one video.
It says "One or more selected items could not be found in this thread."
An item was deleted after you selected it. Close the window and select again.
A photo tile is blank or shows a broken picture.
The picture could not load. Check your internet and reopen the window.
I cannot tick more than 5 on the thread screen.
That is the limit on the thread screen. Open the Analyze this thread window and tap more photos there, up to 15.
The number of people looks wrong.
Run the analysis again with a message such as "Count everyone, including children on laps", or pick a clearer clip. Check the original video to be sure.
20. Trip Planner
Pick a start and a destination and watch a short animated preview of the road between them, with the sights and hotels you would pass. Covers opening the planner, choosing places, the vehicle marker, playback controls, saving, resuming, the trip video and group hotel requests.
20.1What the Trip Planner is and how to open it
What is the Trip Planner?
It is a preview of a road trip. You choose where you start and where you want to go, and KuhuChat builds a short animated drive along the road. A vehicle marker moves along the route on a map while photos of the places you would pass appear one after another: well-known sights and hotels. At the end you get a summary you can save, and a video you can share.
Is it a navigation app?
No. It does not give turn-by-turn directions and does not track you while you travel. It is for planning and sharing: seeing what lies on the way, finding a place to stay and showing the trip to family and friends.
Where do I open it?
- Tap the round Trip button on the Contacts tab or the Samaj tab. It hides while a chat is open.
- On Android you can also add a KuhuTrip icon to your phone's home screen (see Chapter 2, item 2.10).
What are the two tabs at the top?
Book hotel and Start trip. Book hotel is for searching and booking a hotel directly (see Chapter 21). Start trip is the trip preview described in this chapter. Switching tabs does not lose what you have already filled in.
Does it cost anything?
KuhuChat does not charge for planning, watching or saving a trip. Booking a hotel is a separate step and is covered in Chapter 21.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes, to build a trip, and to see the maps and photos. A trip you have saved can be opened without building it again, but its photos and the map still load from the internet.
Does it use a car, bus or walking route?
The route is always a driving route. The bus vehicles you can pick are only a different picture for the marker (see 20.3).
Is the route the real travel time?
The distance and time in the header come from the road route and are an estimate. Real travel time depends on traffic, stops and weather. The animation itself is much shorter than the real journey (see 20.5).
20.2Choosing your start and destination
How do I choose where to start and where to go?
- Open the Trip Planner and stay on the Start trip tab.
- Tap the From box, then place a pin on the map (see below).
- Tap the To box and place a second pin.
- Tap Start trip.
Both boxes say "Tap to select village or city" until you fill them.
How do I place a pin?
A sheet opens with a map and the note "Tap anywhere on the map to drop a pin, or use your current location." Tap the map, and a pin appears. You can drag the pin to adjust it. The name of the place is looked up and shown at the bottom ("Looking up name…" first). Tap Use this pinned location to confirm.
Can I use my current location?
Yes. Tap the round my-location button at the bottom right of the map sheet. The app asks for location permission the first time. It then drops a pin on your position and zooms in.
What if my current location does not work?
You will see one of these messages. Follow it, or simply tap the map instead.
- "Turn on device location to use this, or tap the map instead." Switch on location on your phone.
- "Location permission denied. Enable it in app settings, or tap the map instead." If you denied it permanently, tap Open settings in the message.
- "Could not get your current location. Try again, or tap the map instead." Move to a place with a better signal and try again.
What name will my place have?
The nearest village, town or city that the map finds. If no name can be found, the place is called "Custom location". The pin is still exact and the trip still works. A trip saved with that name gets its real name filled in automatically later, when you are online.
Can I see my first place while choosing the second?
Yes. When you choose the second place, the first one is shown on the map sheet as a green marker labelled "Already selected" so you can place the second pin relative to it.
What does the small map on the Start trip tab show?
A green marker for the start and a red marker for the destination. The line between them is a straight preview line only. It is not the road. The real road route appears once the trip starts.
Can I choose any place?
You can pin any point on the map. The preview works best between places that are connected by road.
Why is the Start trip button greyed out?
You must choose both From and To first.
Can I swap start and destination?
There is no swap button. Tap each box and choose again. During the preview you can also play the trip in reverse (see 20.5).
20.3The vehicle marker
What is the vehicle marker?
It is the small picture of a vehicle that moves along the route on the map. It is only a picture for fun and for your video. It does not change the route, the places shown or the timing.
How do I change it?
- On the Start trip tab, tap the Vehicle marker box. Or, while a trip is playing, tap the vehicle button in the controls.
- In the sheet "Choose your ride", tap a vehicle.
The sheet closes and the marker changes straight away.
Which vehicles can I choose?
Cars: Sedan and Racer. Buses: City Bus, Coach, Luxury Coach and School Bus. The Sedan is the default.
Will my choice be remembered?
Only while the app stays open. After you close the app, the marker goes back to the Sedan, so choose again if you like.
Does the vehicle show in the video?
Yes. The video shows the vehicle you had selected when it was made.
Can I set budget, food or pace for the trip?
Not at the moment. The trip is built with standard settings, so there is nothing to set apart from the vehicle picture.
20.4What your trip contains
What will I see in my trip?
- The road route from your start to your destination, drawn on the map.
- Up to 12 places worth a stop along the way, such as heritage sites and tourist places.
- Up to 8 hotels along the way, with a price range badge.
- Photos for every stop: up to 5 for a place and up to 10 for a hotel.
- A short line about each stop, and often an interesting fact.
In what order do the stops appear?
In the order you would pass them on the road, from your start to your destination.
How are the places chosen?
KuhuChat looks for well-known places near the route using map data and suggestions. Every stop has a real photo. A place without a usable photo is left out.
Why does my trip have few stops, or no hotels?
Short routes and quiet routes have fewer places. Hotels appear only where hotels are available along the way. If the trip finds nothing at all, it still plays with a start card and an arrival card.
Does it show restaurants or food?
Not at the moment. Trips show places to visit and hotels.
Why do two trips on the same route look alike?
The places and photos for a route are reused for a while, so the same route shows similar stops. This also makes the trip build faster.
How long does a trip take to build?
Usually a short wait while "Start trip" shows a spinner. A long route can take longer. Keep the app open.
Messages when starting a trip
- "Could not start the trip. Try again." Check your internet and tap Start trip again.
- "No content found for this route yet." The route has nothing to show right now. Try a nearby start or destination.
What if the road route cannot be found?
The trip still plays, but with a straight line between the two places, and the header shows no distance or travel time. Try again later, or choose slightly different places.
20.5Watching your trip
What happens when I tap Start trip?
A "Preparing trip…" screen appears first. It warms up the map ("Warming up map…") and loads the photos ("Loading photos…") with a percentage, so the trip plays smoothly. The photo loading waits at most about 20 seconds. After that the trip starts anyway, and a photo that is not ready yet shows a small spinner until it arrives.
What do I see while it plays?
The map shows the route with your vehicle moving along it, and the photo of the current stop is shown together with it. When the vehicle reaches a stop, its photo and name appear. The map and photos always stay in step with each other.
How long does the animation last?
The trip is built as a 10-minute preview. At normal speed (1x) it plays in about two and a half minutes. Slower speeds take longer and faster speeds are shorter.
What are the controls at the top?
- Rewind: plays the trip backwards. Tap again to go forward.
- Play or Pause.
- View: switches the map between Map, 3D and Satellite views. Each tap moves to the next one.
- Fullscreen image: opens the current photo full screen.
- Vehicle: change the vehicle marker.
- Speed: 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x or 3x.
Above these, the header shows your start and destination names, and the route distance and travel time.
What is the coloured bar?
It is the trip's progress bar. It is split into one segment per stop. Green segments are places to visit and light blue segments are hotels. A glowing dot shows where you are. Tap or drag anywhere on the bar to jump to that part of the trip.
The controls disappear. Where did they go?
While the trip plays, the top controls hide after about a second so the drive is not covered. Tap the photo or the map to bring them back. When the trip is paused, they stay visible.
What does tapping do?
- Tap the photo: pauses or resumes the trip and shows the controls.
- Double-tap the photo: opens it full screen.
- Tap the map: shows the controls.
- Double-tap the map: opens the map full screen.
- Tap a place marker on the map: opens a card with its name, its description and its coordinates.
What do the marker colours mean?
Green markers are places to visit and blue markers are hotels. The vehicle marker turns to face the direction of the road.
Can I play a part again?
Yes. Drag the progress bar back, or tap Rewind to play backwards.
20.6Places, photos and hotel cards
What does a place card show?
Only the place name is shown at first, so the photo stays clear. Tap the name area to open more: a short description, and often an interesting fact about the place. Tap again to close it.
What does "Representative photo — exact location not available" mean?
The photo shows the kind of place or the area, but the exact spot on the map is not known. The photo is a good guide, not an exact view.
What does the badge on a hotel photo mean?
It shows the hotel's price band per night: Under ₹1,500, ₹1,500–4,000, ₹4,000–9,000 or ₹9,000+. A "~" in front means the price is only a guide.
Why is the hotel price only a guide?
The trip preview is built without your travel dates, so the price band is based on a typical night. For the real price on your dates, choose the hotel and continue to booking (see Chapter 21).
How do I use the full-screen photo viewer?
Double-tap the photo or tap the Fullscreen image button. Then:
- Swipe left or right to move through the photos of that place.
- Tap the left or right edge to go to the previous or next photo. At the last photo of a place, the tap moves on to the next place.
- Pinch to zoom in, up to 4 times.
- Tap the rotate button to turn the picture sideways, and tap it again to reset.
- Tap the play or pause button to control the trip from here.
- Tap the info button to see the details of the place.
- Tap the close button at the top left to return to the trip.
The top bar shows your route (start to destination), the place name and the photo count, for example 2/5.
What details can I see in the info panel?
The description, the rating when there is one, an interesting fact and the amenities of a hotel, such as the facilities it offers.
Can I open the place on Google Maps?
Yes, from the trip summary. Tap a place in the list and it opens in your browser or in the Maps app (see 20.8).
20.7Pausing, leaving and resuming a trip
What if I leave the trip before it ends?
Your place in the trip is remembered on your phone. Go back to the Start trip tab and tap Resume trip. The trip opens again at the stop you were on.
How long is a paused trip kept?
48 hours. After that it is removed. Only your most recent unfinished trip is kept, so starting a new trip and leaving it early replaces the earlier one.
I tapped Resume trip and saw "No trip to resume."
There is no unfinished trip on this phone. Either you finished the last trip, or 48 hours have passed, or you have not left a trip early. Start a new trip instead.
Does a finished trip show in Resume trip?
No. When a trip finishes, there is nothing left to resume. Save it from the summary screen if you want to keep it (see 20.8).
Does Resume trip work on another phone?
No. It is kept on the phone where you were watching.
Will the video be kept if I leave early?
No. The video is made only when you watch the whole trip. If you leave early, the part recorded so far is discarded (see 20.10).
20.8The trip summary and saving a trip
What happens when the trip ends?
A "Finishing video…" message with a percentage appears for a moment while the video is put together. Then the Trip summary opens with "Trip complete!"
What is on the summary screen?
- Your start and destination, with the distance and travel time.
- The trip video, if one was made. Tap it to play or pause. It starts paused.
- Small tags counting the stops, such as "9 × Heritage/tourist" and "6 × Hotel".
- A list of every stop with its photo, name and description.
- Save trip and Done buttons.
What happens when I tap a stop in the list?
- For a place: it opens its page on Google Maps in your browser or Maps app. If the link cannot be opened you see "Could not open link".
- For a hotel, marked Book: it opens the hotel search around that hotel so you can check rooms and book (Chapter 21).
How do I save the trip?
Tap Save trip. You see "Trip saved" and the button changes to Saved. If saving fails you see "Could not save trip — try again". Tap again.
What if I do not tap Save trip?
The trip is not kept. Tap Done and it is gone. Save it first if you want to see it again.
How many trips can I save?
- When you save an eleventh, a box titled "Saved trips full" says that saving it will delete your oldest saved trip. Tap Continue to go ahead, or Cancel to keep things as they are.
What does Done do?
It takes you back to the Start trip tab. From a saved trip, it simply goes back to your list.
20.9Saved trips
Where are my saved trips?
Open the Trip Planner, stay on the Start trip tab and tap Saved trips. If there are none you see "No saved trips yet."
What does the list show?
Each trip shows "Start → Destination" and the date it was saved, with the newest first. An older trip that cannot be fully shown says "summary only" after the date.
What can I do with a saved trip?
- Tap it to open its summary: the video, the stops and the hotels.
- Tap the film icon to share its video (see 20.10).
- Tap the bin icon to delete it.
Can I watch the whole drive animation again?
The saved trip opens as the summary. The video on that screen is the way to watch the trip again. If you want the animated drive, start the same trip again from the Start trip tab.
Does deleting ask me to confirm?
No. The bin icon deletes the trip straight away, along with its video. This cannot be undone.
Will my saved trips survive a new phone or reinstall?
Yes, the trips themselves. They are kept with your account as well as on your phone. After you log in on a new phone and open Saved trips, they appear again. This needs an internet connection and may take a moment.
What does not come back?
The video. A trip's video is kept only on the phone where it was made. On a new phone you can make it again with the film icon (see 20.10).
Why do the photos not show when I am offline?
Saved trips keep the links to the photos, not the pictures themselves. Photos and maps load from the internet when you open a trip.
20.10The trip video and sharing
How do I get a video of my trip?
Watch your trip to the end. The video is recorded automatically on your phone while the trip plays. You do not press anything. At the end, the summary shows it. Save the trip to keep it.
What is in the video?
The map with the vehicle moving along the route, and the photo and name of each place as you reach it. The video is a standard MP4 file, 720 pixels wide, so it plays on any phone and in any chat app. It has a silent sound track.
Why is there no video on my summary screen?
A video is made only when you watch a new trip all the way to the end. It is not made if you leave early, or if you open a trip from Saved trips. If the map could not load during the trip, nothing could be recorded either. You can still make one from Saved trips.
How do I share the video?
- Open Trip Planner, then Saved trips.
- Tap the film icon (Share MP4) on the trip.
- Choose where to send it in the share sheet, such as WhatsApp.
The trip must be saved first. The film icon appears only on trips that have a route saved.
I tapped Share MP4 and a screen with a progress bar opened.
This trip has no video on this phone, so KuhuChat is making one now. You will see these steps: Loading vehicle icon…, Loading places…, Loading photos…, Preparing map…, Recording video… and Sharing…. Keep the app open and wait. It can take a few minutes. When it is ready, the share sheet opens and the screen closes by itself.
I see "Video generation failed."
The video could not be made, often because of a weak connection or because the map did not load. Check your internet and try again.
I see "Video unavailable".
The video file is no longer on your phone. Use the film icon on the saved trip to make it again.
Can I choose the vehicle in the video?
Yes. Pick the vehicle before you start the trip, or before you tap Share MP4 for a video that has to be made again.
20.11Group hotel requests
What is a group request?
For 10 or more guests, rooms are arranged by the KuhuChat team together with the hotel instead of through the normal booking. You send your plan, and the team contacts you with options and prices. No payment is taken in the app for a group request.
Where do I find it?
On the Book hotel tab, in the guests section of the hotel search, tap "More than 9 guests? Send a group request". The place and dates you already entered carry over to the form.
What do I fill in?
- Where do you want to stay? A town, city or hotel name.
- Check-in and check-out dates. Tap the dates and choose them on the calendar. The form starts with a date 14 days from today and one night.
- Number of guests: from 10 to 500.
- Rooms needed (optional).
- Your contact details: Name, Phone, and Email (optional).
- Anything else? (optional): for example the kind of group, or a budget.
Your name, phone and email are filled in from your account when KuhuChat has them. Check them and correct them if needed.
What messages might I see?
- "Group requests are for 10 or more guests." Use the normal hotel search for smaller groups.
- "Please call us for groups above 500." Contact KuhuChat support from the Contact page on kuhuchat.com.
- "Enter a valid phone number." Use at least 8 digits.
- "Enter a valid email." Check the spelling or leave the email empty.
- "Enter a number" or "Enter a valid number." Fix the guests or rooms box.
What happens after I send it?
You see "Request sent. We will contact you on [your phone number] with options and prices for your group." Tap Done. The team uses the phone number you gave, so make sure it is the right one.
Can I send more than one request?
Up to 3 requests in 24 hours. After that you see "You have already sent several requests today. We will contact you soon." Wait for the team to reach you.
Can I change or cancel a group request?
There is no edit or cancel button. If something changes, send a new request with the correct details or tell the team when they contact you.
20.12Troubleshooting the Trip Planner
The map is blank or grey.
Check your internet connection, then close the screen and open it again. Maps need data to load.
Start trip stays on the spinner for a long time.
Long routes take longer to build. Wait a little, and if nothing happens, check your connection and tap Start trip again.
It is stuck on "Preparing trip…".
The map is being warmed up and the photos are loading. The photo step stops waiting after about 20 seconds, so the trip should start soon. On a very slow connection, move to better signal and start again.
A photo shows a spinner.
That photo has not finished loading. The trip keeps moving and the photo appears when it arrives.
The trip skipped ahead or the car moved while I was reading.
The trip runs on one clock. Tap the photo to pause it, or choose a slower speed such as 0.5x.
My trip has no hotels.
No hotels were available along that route when the trip was built. Use the Book hotel tab to search for a hotel directly (Chapter 21).
The header shows no distance or travel time.
The road route could not be found, so the trip shows a straight line. Try again later.
My saved trip names say "Custom location".
The place had no name when you pinned it. The real name is filled in automatically the next time you open Saved trips while online.
Where do I get help?
Use the Contact page on kuhuchat.com.
21. Hotel Booking
Find and book a hotel anywhere in India without leaving KuhuChat. Covers searching by place, dates and guests, filters and sorting, hotel details and reviews, checkout and payment, your booking confirmation, cancelling, correcting guest details and changing dates.
21.1Searching for hotels
Where do I book a hotel?
Open the Trip Planner (the round Trip button on the Contacts tab or the Samaj tab) and stay on the Book hotel tab. The other tab, Start trip, is the trip preview described in Chapter 20. You can also tap Book on a hotel card inside a trip, which opens the hotel search around that hotel.
Can I book hotels outside India?
No. Hotel booking works for places in India only. If you pick a place outside India you will see "Hotel booking is available for places in India only."
Do I need to search before I choose dates?
No. You fill in the place, the dates and the guests first, and the search runs once when you tap Find hotels. Nothing is searched before that.
How do I choose where to stay?
You have three ways. Use whichever is easiest.
- Search by name: type a village, town, city or area and pick it from the list.
- Pick on map: tap the map to drop a pin where you want to stay, and drag the pin to fine-tune it. Tap Use this location when you are happy. The name of the nearby place is looked up and shown on the button.
- Or choose an area: pick a State and a District. Taluka is optional.
Which choice wins if I use more than one?
The most specific one. A pin beats a searched place, a searched place beats a taluka, and a taluka beats a district.
How far around my place does it look?
Around an exact place or pin it looks nearby. For a taluka it looks around 15 km, and for a whole district it looks around several points (the district's talukas) so that the list covers the district and not just one town. If few hotels appear, choose a taluka or pin the exact spot and search again.
Can I search a whole state?
Not yet. Choose a district to see hotels. The screen says "Choose a district to see hotels. Showing the top hotels of a whole state is coming soon."
I see "Could not load places. Check your connection and try again." What do I do?
Check your internet and tap Retry. If only the talukas fail to load, you will see "Could not load talukas. You can still search the whole district." You can go ahead without choosing a taluka.
What does the "When and who" section ask?
Your check-in and check-out dates, the number of rooms, and the adults and children in each room (see 21.2).
What does Find hotels do?
It searches hotels for your place, dates and guests and opens the list. If you change your mind later, tap the search summary at the top of the list to edit it.
Does searching cost anything?
No. Searching and looking at hotels is free. You pay only when you book.
21.2Dates, rooms and guests
How do I set my dates?
Tap the date line and choose check-in and check-out on the calendar. A new search starts with a date 7 days from today, 1 night, 1 room and 2 adults, so you only need to change what is different.
How far ahead can I book?
Up to one year from today.
How many nights can I stay?
Up to 30 nights in one booking. If you choose longer you will see "Stays are limited to 30 nights."
How many rooms and guests can I book?
Up to 9 rooms and 9 guests in one booking, and up to 6 guests in one room. The app tells you when you reach a limit:
- "Up to 9 guests in one booking. Larger groups: send a group request."
- "Up to 9 rooms in one booking."
- "Up to 6 guests in one room. Add another room."
How do I add another room?
Tap Add another room. Each room has its own adults and children. Tap the remove icon on a room to remove it. You must keep at least one room.
Who counts as a child?
Children are 0 to 11 years old. From 12 a guest counts as an adult. This is the usual rule in Indian hotels. It is the hotel's policy, not a law.
How do I add a child?
Add the child in the room, then choose the child's age. The list starts at "Under 1" and goes up to 11 years. Hotels use the age to work out the right price and bed.
The app suggests more rooms for my group. Why?
When there are more than 2 guests but only one room, a tip appears, for example "about 2 rooms (2 guests per room) is usual". It is only a suggestion. You can keep one room if the room type allows it.
We are 10 or more people. How do I book?
Tap "More than 9 guests? Send a group request". The team arranges rooms with the hotel and contacts you. The place and dates you filled in carry over. See Chapter 20, item 20.11.
Why can't I book 10 or more guests online?
Hotel suppliers treat 10 or more people under one booking as a group booking and may cancel a normal booking made for a group. The group request avoids that.
Can I change my dates or guests after seeing the list?
Yes. Tap the search summary or Edit search at the top of the list, change the details and tap Search hotels. The list is rebuilt for the new dates.
21.3The hotel list, filters and sorting
What does the hotel list show?
A header says "Showing hotels in" with your place, then a count such as "12 hotels found". Each hotel card shows its photo, name, star class, guest rating, how many room types it has, and the price.
How many hotels are shown?
The best matches, ten at a time. Tap "Show more hotels" at the bottom to see the next ones.
How is the price shown?
As the total for your whole stay. For stays of more than one night, the price per night appears below it. With more than one room the card also shows the number of rooms. All prices are in rupees.
Are taxes included?
The price you pay in KuhuChat is shown on the card. Some hotels also charge taxes or fees at the hotel. When that applies, the room shows a line such as "+ ₹300 taxes and fees payable at the hotel". That amount is not part of the price you pay in the app.
What are Budget, Mid, Premium and Luxury?
Price bands based on the cheapest room's price per night. Budget is under ₹1,500, Mid is ₹1,500 to ₹3,999, Premium is ₹4,000 to ₹8,999 and Luxury is ₹9,000 and above. Tap a band to show only hotels in it. You can pick more than one.
How do I sort the list?
Tap one of the sort chips:
- Top rated (the default)
- Price: low to high
- Price: high to low
What filters are there?
Tap the filter button and choose from:
- Refundable rooms only: hide rooms that cannot be cancelled for a refund.
- Guest rating (out of 10): choose Any, or a minimum rating.
- Star class: pick one or more of the star options.
- Must have: Free WiFi, Swimming pool, Air conditioning, Restaurant, Breakfast.
Then tap Show hotels. Tap Reset to clear the choices inside the filter sheet.
Does the filter button show how many filters are on?
Yes. A small number on the button shows how many filters are active.
What is the difference between stars and guest rating?
Stars (1 to 5) describe the hotel's class and facilities. The guest rating (out of 10) comes from guests' reviews. A 2-star hotel can still have a very high guest rating.
The header says "rooms above ₹… per booking are not shown". Why?
Bookings in the app have a maximum value (see 21.8). Rooms priced above that maximum are hidden so you only see rooms you can actually book.
The header says "star class is not available for this area". What does that mean?
The hotel information for this area has no star classes, so the star filter cannot be applied. Use the other filters, guest rating or price instead.
I see "No hotels found for these dates."
There is nothing available for your place and dates. Tap Change dates or guests, try other dates, widen your area (choose the district instead of a taluka), or tap Clear filters if you had filters on.
I see "No hotels match these filters."
Your filters are too narrow. Tap Clear filters.
The list does not load and shows an error.
Check your internet and tap Try again.
Are the prices final?
The list price is the price at the time of the search. Before you pay, the app checks the price again at checkout (see 21.5). If it changed, you are told.
21.4Hotel details and reviews
How do I open a hotel?
Tap a hotel in the list. The details page opens with the photos at the top.
What is on the details page?
- Photos: swipe through the gallery. Tap a photo to see it full screen, and pinch to zoom.
- Name, star class and guest rating.
- Address and, when the hotel has one, a phone number.
- About this hotel: the hotel's description. Tap to read more.
- Facilities: the first ten, with "Show all" to see the rest.
- Good to know: important information from the hotel, such as check-in rules.
- Choose a room: every room type with its price.
- Guest reviews.
Why does a hotel have no description or facilities?
A section shows only when the hotel supplies that information. A hotel with little information still shows its name, address, rooms and prices.
What does each room card show?
The room name, a refundable or non-refundable tag, the meal plan if any (for example Breakfast included or Room only), beds, room size, how many guests it sleeps, a strip of room photos and the price. When you select a room, its amenities are listed too.
What do the refundable tags mean?
- Refundable: you can cancel for a full refund within the hotel's cancellation terms.
- Non-refundable: you cannot cancel for a full refund. If you cancel or do not arrive, charges apply.
- Partly refundable: some of the money comes back if you cancel.
Check the tag on every room before you choose. If a room has no tag, the hotel did not give its terms.
Why is one price crossed out?
Some rooms have a higher usual price. When your price is lower, the old price appears crossed out with "Save ₹…" under your price.
How do I choose a room?
Tap the room card. The selected room is highlighted and the price bar at the bottom changes to that room. Nothing is booked yet.
Does the room name match what the hotel has?
Yes. The room name is exactly what the hotel receives with your booking.
Where do guest reviews come from?
They are reviews of the hotel collected by our hotel supplier. Each review shows a score out of 10, the guest's name, country and type of traveller, a headline, and what the guest liked and disliked. KuhuChat does not edit them.
How many reviews can I read?
A few appear first. Tap "Show all" to read them all and "Show fewer reviews" to fold them again.
The reviews do not load.
Reviews load separately from the rest of the page. If they fail, the page still works and you can still book. Go back and open the hotel again to retry.
How do I book the room I picked?
Tap Book this room at the bottom. Checkout opens for that exact room (see 21.5).
21.5Checkout and payment
What happens when I tap Book this room?
Checkout opens and first confirms that the room is still available and locks its final price. A short loading screen shows while this happens. Then the guest details form opens.
Why does checkout say the price shifted?
Prices can change between the search and checkout. If it did, you see "Heads up: the price shifted X% since search. The amount above is the current, correct price." Check the new amount before you continue.
Why does checkout say the terms changed?
The cancellation or meal-plan terms were updated by the hotel since the search. You see "Heads up: the cancellation or meal-plan terms changed since search. Please review before paying." Read them before paying.
What details do I have to give?
First name, last name, email and phone number of the main guest. Use the details of the person who will check in. Your email must look like an email address, otherwise you will see "Enter a valid email".
I am booking more than one room. What do I fill in?
The form shows "Main guest (Room 1)" and then "Guest in each other room", with a first and last name for Room 2 onwards. The hotel needs one name per room. If a name is missing you will see "Please enter a guest name for each of the … rooms."
What if the room is non-refundable?
A box appears: "Non-refundable room". It explains that you cannot cancel for a full refund, and you must tick "I understand and accept that this booking is non-refundable" before you can continue. Without the tick you will see "Please tick the box to confirm this room is non-refundable."
How do I pay?
Tap Continue to payment. A secure payment form opens inside the app. Enter your payment details there and pay.
Does KuhuChat see my card details?
No. Payment is handled by our hotel and payment partner on their secure form. KuhuChat does not see or store your card details.
In which currency do I pay?
Indian rupees (₹).
What happens after I pay?
A screen says "Finalizing your booking" while the booking is completed with the hotel. Do not close the app or press back during this step. When it finishes, the booking confirmation opens (see 21.6).
The payment was taken but I see an error.
Do not pay again. Close the screen, wait a few minutes and check for your confirmation. If the error says "Back to guest details", you can go back and try again only if you were not charged. If you were charged and have no confirmation, contact us from the Contact page on kuhuchat.com with the time and your phone number.
I see "This booking session expired. Please start again."
Checkout holds a rate for a limited time. Go back to the hotel, choose the room again and start checkout again.
I see "This rate is no longer available. Please search again."
Someone else booked it or the hotel changed it. Search again and choose another room.
I see "You already have a booking for this hotel on these dates."
You can have only one live booking for the same hotel on the same dates. Cancel the existing booking first if you want to book again.
I see "This booking is already being processed or completed."
You tapped twice or reopened a finished checkout. Wait for the confirmation. A single checkout can only turn into one booking.
I see "Hotel booking is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
Bookings are paused for a short while on our side. Try again later.
I see "Bookings in the app are limited to ₹… for now. Please choose a lower-priced stay."
That stay is above the maximum value we allow in one booking (see 21.8). Choose a cheaper room or fewer rooms.
I see "This booking can't be completed in the app right now."
The price could not be checked for this room. Choose another room or another hotel.
Can I book for someone else?
Yes. Enter that person's name as the guest. Use an email you can read.
Do I need to be signed in?
Yes. You are always signed in to KuhuChat, and the booking is tied to your account. Only you can cancel or change it.
21.6Booking confirmation
What does the confirmation screen show?
The hotel name and address, your Booking ID and the booking status at the top, for example "Booking CONFIRMED". Below are buttons to call the hotel, open the hotel in Maps, fix guest details, change dates and cancel.
What is the Hotel confirmation code?
A code from the hotel itself that proves it has your booking. When the booking is first made, the screen says "Confirming with the hotel. This will update automatically the moment the confirmation code comes back, no need to refresh." The code appears by itself once the hotel sends it.
How long does the hotel confirmation take?
It is usually quick, but some hotels confirm manually and take longer. Leave the screen open or come back to it. You do not need to refresh.
Can I trust the booking before the code arrives?
Your booking and payment are recorded under your Booking ID. The hotel confirmation code is the hotel's own acknowledgement. If you want to be sure, use Call hotel and quote your Booking ID and name.
How do I call the hotel?
Tap Call hotel. The button shows the hotel's phone number and opens your phone dialler. The button appears only when the hotel has a phone number on file. If the dialler cannot open you will see "Could not open the phone dialer."
How do I get directions?
Tap Open in Maps. It opens the hotel's location in your maps app. If it cannot open you will see "Could not open maps."
What do the statuses mean?
- CONFIRMED: your booking is made.
- CANCELLED: the booking was cancelled with no charges.
- CANCELLED WITH CHARGES: the booking was cancelled but charges apply because the rate was non-refundable or past its free-cancellation time.
- BOOK ERROR: the booking could not be completed. Check with us before paying again.
Where do I find my booking later?
Note your Booking ID, hotel name and hotel confirmation code from this screen and keep them safe. They are what the hotel and our team will ask for.
What does Done do?
It closes the confirmation screen and takes you back. Your booking is not affected.
21.7Cancelling a booking
How do I cancel?
On the booking confirmation screen tap Cancel booking. A box asks "Cancel this booking?" and explains that if the booking is non-refundable or past its free-cancellation time, it will still be cancelled but you may not get a refund. Tap Cancel booking to go ahead or Keep booking to leave it as it is.
Will I get a refund?
That depends on the room's own cancellation terms, which you saw on the room card and in Good to know. The result is shown right after you confirm:
- "Booking cancelled and refunded per the cancellation policy." The booking was refundable and the refund is on its way.
- "Booking cancelled. This rate was non-refundable, so charges apply." The booking is cancelled, but you are charged as the terms say.
How long does a refund take?
The refund goes back through the payment method you used. How long it takes depends on your bank or card company.
Who decides the refund?
The hotel's cancellation terms decide it. KuhuChat shows you the result and does not change it.
Can I undo a cancellation?
No. Once cancelled, the booking cannot be brought back. Search and book again if you change your mind, subject to availability and price.
I see "Could not cancel this booking. Please try again."
Check your internet and tap Cancel booking again. If you cancelled earlier, the status already shows CANCELLED and nothing more happens.
Can someone else cancel my booking?
No. Only the person who made the booking can cancel it.
Can I cancel after the check-in date?
The hotel's rules apply. Call the hotel with your Booking ID, since a late cancellation may carry charges.
21.8Fixing guest details and changing dates
I made a spelling mistake in the guest name or email. What do I do?
On the confirmation screen tap "Fix guest name / email". Correct the First name, Last name or Email and tap Save. You will see "Guest details updated."
Can I change the guest completely?
This option fixes the main guest's name and email, for example a typo. It does not change dates, rooms or other guests.
I see "Could not update guest details. It may be too close to check-in."
Hotels do not accept guest changes close to check-in, or after cancellation. Call the hotel with your Booking ID and ask them to correct the name at the desk.
How do I change my dates?
On the confirmation screen tap Change dates and choose the new check-in and check-out dates on the calendar. The app looks for the same hotel on the new dates.
Does choosing new dates change my booking straight away?
No. Looking up new dates changes nothing. Your original booking stays as it is, and stays charged, until you choose a new rate and confirm it.
What do I see after choosing dates?
A list titled "Choose a new rate" shows the available options with their prices. If the new dates have different cancellation or meal terms, the option says "Cancellation/meal terms differ from your current booking". Read this before you choose.
What happens when I confirm a new rate?
A new booking is created for the new dates and your old booking is cancelled automatically. The screen says "Dates updated. This is now booking …" with the new Booking ID. Use the new Booking ID from now on.
Will I pay again for the new dates?
The new booking replaces the old one. The price difference and any charges depend on the old and new rates and their terms, which are shown on the option before you choose it.
I see "No alternative dates available for this hotel right now."
This hotel has no rooms for those dates. Try other dates, or cancel and book a different hotel.
I see "No availability for those dates at this hotel."
The same, for those exact dates. Try nearby dates.
I see "Could not complete the date change. Please try again."
Your original booking is still in place. Try again, or call the hotel.
Who can change a booking?
Only the person who made it. A booking that is already cancelled cannot be changed. Dates can be changed only on a CONFIRMED booking.
Can I change the number of rooms or guests?
Not on the confirmation screen. Cancel and book again, or call the hotel.
21.9Booking limits and rules
Is there a maximum price for a booking?
Yes. Bookings in the app have a maximum value so that nobody makes a very large payment by mistake. Currently the limit is ₹20,000 per room, with a ceiling of ₹60,000 for one booking, whatever the number of rooms. If you go over it the app tells you the exact limit.
Is the limit lower for non-refundable rooms?
Yes. A room that is not fully refundable can be booked only up to ₹10,000 in total.
Why are there limits?
They protect you while hotel booking is new in KuhuChat. For larger stays, send a group request or contact us.
Are the limits permanent?
No. They can be raised as the service grows. The app always shows the current limit.
How many rooms and guests per booking?
Up to 9 rooms, 9 guests, 6 guests in one room and 30 nights (see 21.2).
Can I hold a room without paying?
No. A room is booked only after payment.
Is my booking safe if I uninstall the app?
Yes. The booking is made with the hotel and stored against your account and your Booking ID. Note your Booking ID and hotel confirmation code in case you need to contact the hotel.
What if booking stops working?
Booking can be switched off for a short time for maintenance. You will see "Hotel booking is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." No money is taken when this message shows.
21.10Troubleshooting hotel booking
The Book hotel tab shows nothing to choose.
Make sure you have an internet connection, then close the Trip Planner and open it again.
A pin I dropped is refused.
The pin is outside India. Drop it inside India, or search by name.
I get very few hotels.
Pick a smaller area (a taluka or a pin) or a nearby larger town, remove filters, and try other dates. Small villages often have only a few hotels.
Every hotel I see is expensive or hidden.
Rooms above the maximum booking value are hidden (see 21.9). Choose fewer rooms, shorter stays or cheaper hotels.
The hotel photos do not load.
Check your internet. A hotel may also have few photos on file.
I cannot find the phone number of the hotel.
Not every hotel has one in our records. Use the address and Open in Maps instead.
The payment form does not open.
Check your internet, go back to the guest details and tap Continue to payment again. If it still does not open, close and reopen the app.
I was charged twice.
Contact us from the Contact page on kuhuchat.com with your phone number and both Booking IDs, if you have them. Only one booking can exist for the same hotel and dates, so we will look at it for you.
I want to book a hotel for 10 or more people.
Send a group request (see 20.11).
22. Toolbox
A set of 20 everyday tools inside KuhuChat for calculating, billing, measuring, scanning and editing. Covers how to open the Toolbox, find and pin tools, send results to a chat, and a full guide to every tool: calculator, unit converter, area and volume, interest and EMI, khata ledger, bill maker, quote maker, material estimator, metal weight, notebook, document scanner, photo to PDF, photo editor, QR scanner, compass and Vaastu, light meter, noise meter, speed and trip, torch and vibration.
22.1The Toolbox: opening, finding and pinning tools
What is the Toolbox?
A collection of 20 small tools that work on your phone, so you do not need separate apps. They cover calculations (calculator, interest, units, area, materials, metal weight), money and notes (bill, quote, khata, notebook), phone sensors (compass, light, noise, vibration, speed, torch) and scanning and files (QR, document scanner, photo editor, photo to PDF).
Does it cost anything?
No. All tools are free to use.
Do the tools need internet?
No. The tools work without internet. Only opening a link from the QR scanner needs it. Nothing you type into a tool is sent to our servers. Everything is stored on your phone only.
Where do I open the Toolbox?
- Tap the toolbox icon (a small hammer-and-spanner) in the top bar of the Samaj, Contacts, Social or Business tab.
- Inside any chat, tap the same icon in the chat's top bar. It opens the Toolbox as a sheet over the chat, so you can use a tool and send the answer straight into your message (see below).
- On Android, from the Kuhu Tools icon on your phone's home screen (see Chapter 2, item 2.10).
- From the long-press shortcuts on the KuhuChat icon on your phone (see below).
What does the Toolbox home screen show?
A search box ("Search tools"), a row of profession filters, a section for recently used tools, and a grid of tools. The tools are grouped as Calculate, Money & notes, Sensors and Scan & files.
How do I find a tool?
Type in the search box. The list shows matching tools under "Results", or "No tool found" if nothing matches. You can also scroll the grid.
What are the profession filters?
Chips across the top: Mason / Builder, Carpenter, Painter, Electrician / Plumber, Welder / Fabricator, Tailor, Mechanic, Driver / Delivery, Farmer, Shopkeeper / Trader, Site / Vaastu, and Office & documents. Tap one and the Toolbox shows "For" followed by that profession, with the tools most useful for that work. Tap All to see everything again.
Is a tool missing from my profession?
The filter is a shortcut, not a limit. Tap All and every tool is there.
What is "Recently used"?
The last six tools you opened, newest first, so your favourite tools are one tap away.
How do I pin a tool?
Open a tool and tap the pin icon at the top ("Pin: open this tool first"). The Toolbox then opens that tool first. Tap the icon again ("Unpin") to remove it. You can pin one tool at a time.
What do the buttons at the bottom of a result do?
Most tools have the same three buttons:
- Send to chat: appears only when you opened the Toolbox from inside a chat. It puts the result in your message box.
- Share: opens your phone's share sheet so you can send the result through any app.
- Save to log: saves the result in your Notebook (see 22.11). A green "Saved to log" appears.
Does Send to chat send the message straight away?
No. It adds the result to your message box and closes the Toolbox. You can read it, edit it and then tap send yourself. If you already typed something, the result is added on a new line.
What are the long-press shortcuts?
Press and hold the KuhuChat icon on your phone's home screen to see Tools, Scan document, Bill maker and QR scanner. Tap one to open it directly.
How do I add a Kuhu Tools, KuhuBiz or KuhuTrip icon to my home screen?
On Android, open the three-dot menu and choose Home screen icons. Switch on KuhuTools icon, KuhuBiz Search icon or KuhuTrip icon. Switch it off to remove it. Do not uninstall to remove an icon, because that removes the whole KuhuChat app. See Chapter 2, item 2.10.
Where is my Toolbox data kept?
Only on your phone. Your khata entries, notes, saved results, scans and edited photos stay there. They do not move to a new phone, and they are lost if you uninstall KuhuChat or clear its data. Share or save anything important before that.
22.2Calculator
What can the Calculator do?
Add, subtract, multiply and divide, percentages, and GST. It is a simple calculator and is not scientific.
How do I do a percentage?
Type a number, press an operator, type the second number and press %. For example, 200 + 10 % gives 10 percent of 200 added to 200, which is 220.
How do I add or remove GST?
Choose a rate below the display (5%, 12%, 18% or 28%). The default is 18%. Type the amount and tap Add GST to get the price with GST, or Remove GST to find the price before GST. The line above the answer shows the GST amount.
What do C and the backspace key do?
C clears everything. The backspace key removes the last digit you typed.
What happens when I divide by zero?
The display shows Error. Tap C and start again.
Can I send a calculation to someone?
Yes. Use Share, Save to log, or Send to chat (when opened from a chat). The result is sent with the line of working above it.
22.3Unit converter
What can I convert?
Four groups of units:
- Length: metre, centimetre, millimetre, kilometre, inch, foot, yard.
- Area: square metre, square foot, square yard, acre, hectare, square kilometre.
- Weight: kilogram, gram, quintal, tonne, pound.
- Volume: litre, millilitre, cubic metre, US gallon.
How do I convert?
Pick the group (Length, Area, Weight or Volume). Choose the From unit and the To unit. Type the Value. The answer appears at once, for example "10 foot = 3.048 m".
Can it convert bigha, guntha, vigha or other local land units?
No. The converter uses standard (global) units only. Local land units differ from state to state, so we do not guess them.
How accurate is it?
Answers are shown to up to 6 decimal places, with unnecessary zeros removed.
22.4Area and volume
What shapes can I measure?
Area: Rectangle, Triangle and Circle. Volume: Box / Room / Tank, Cylinder / Round tank and Sphere.
How do I use it?
Choose the shape. Fields appear for that shape, for example Length and Width for a rectangle, Radius for a circle, Radius and Height for a cylinder. Choose a unit and type the sizes. The answer appears immediately.
Which units can I type in?
Metre, centimetre, foot or inch. Use the same unit for every field.
What does the answer show?
The area or volume in your unit and also in other common units. Area is also shown in square metres, square feet, acres and hectares. Volume is also shown in cubic metres, litres and cubic feet.
Which tool do I use for a room's flooring or paint?
Use Area and volume to find the size, then Material estimate (22.9) to find how much paint or how many tiles you need.
22.5Interest and EMI
What can the Interest tool calculate?
Simple interest, compound interest (yearly) and EMI (monthly loan instalment). Switch between them with the Simple, Compound and EMI buttons at the top.
What do I type for simple or compound interest?
Principal, Interest rate per year (%), and Time in years.
What do I type for EMI?
Loan amount, Interest rate per year (%), and Number of months.
What do I get?
- Simple: the interest and the total to pay.
- Compound (yearly): the interest and the total to pay, with interest added once a year.
- EMI: the monthly instalment, the total interest over the loan, and the total to pay.
Is the EMI exactly what my bank will charge?
It is a close guide. Banks may add processing fees, insurance or round off differently, so confirm with your lender.
22.6Khata (ledger)
What is the Khata?
A simple record of money you gave to or got from people, with the balance for each person shown instantly. Everything stays on your phone.
How do I add an entry?
Type the person's Name and the Amount. Add a Note if you wish. Then tap You gave if you gave money, or You got if you received money.
How is the balance worked out?
"You gave" counts as money the person owes you. "You got" reduces that, or counts as money you owe them. The list shows each person as To receive, To pay or Settled.
What are the To receive and To pay boxes?
Totals at the top: the total others owe you, and the total you owe others, across all people.
How do I see one person's history?
Tap the person's name. Every entry shows with its date and time, amount and note.
Can I send a person their statement?
Yes. Open the person and use Share or Send to chat. The statement starts with "Khata:" and the name, lists every entry with date, Gave or Got, amount and note, and ends with the balance.
How do I delete an entry?
Open the person and tap the delete icon beside the entry.
Is my khata safe?
It is stored only on your phone and is not uploaded or backed up. If you uninstall the app or change phones it is not carried over, so share statements you need to keep.
Does the Khata send reminders to people?
No. It is a record only. Use a chat message or a reminder (Chapter 12) to follow up.
22.7Bill maker
What does the Bill maker do?
It makes a quick bill or invoice as text that you can send in a chat or share. It works offline.
How do I make a bill?
- Type Your shop / name. It is remembered for next time.
- Type the Customer if you wish (optional).
- Type an Item, its Qty and its Rate, then tap Add. Repeat for every item.
- Choose GST: None, 5%, 12%, 18% or 28%.
- Type a Discount amount if you give one (optional).
Then Share it, or Send to chat when opened from a chat.
How do I remove an item?
Tap the small cross beside the item.
What does the bill show?
"BILL" with today's date, the customer, each item as "Qty x Rate = amount", the Sub total, the Discount, the GST amount and the TOTAL.
How do I start another bill?
Tap New bill. It clears the items and keeps your shop name.
Is this a legal GST invoice?
No. It is a simple, clear bill in text form. It has no invoice number, GSTIN or tax breakup, so it does not replace a tax invoice. Use your accounting software for tax invoices.
Is the discount a percentage?
No. Type the discount as an amount in rupees.
22.8Quote maker
What is a quote?
An estimate you give a customer before starting a job. The Quote maker builds it from your labour, material and transport costs.
How do I make a quote?
Type Your name / shop, the Customer (optional) and a Work description. Then fill in the costs:
- Days and Rate per day for labour.
- Material cost.
- Transport / other.
- GST: None, 5%, 12% or 18%.
- Advance (%) you want before starting.
- Valid for (days).
What does the quote show?
"QUOTE" with today's date, who it is for, the work, labour (days x rate), material, transport, GST, the TOTAL, the Advance amount, the Balance after work, and "Valid till" the last date the quote holds.
How do I send it?
Use Share, or Send to chat when opened from a chat.
Is a quote a promise?
It is only an estimate you write yourself. KuhuChat does not check prices. Review the numbers before you send.
22.9Material estimator
What can it estimate?
How much you need to buy for six common jobs: Paint, Floor tiles, Bricks (wall), Concrete (slab), Plaster and Fabric.
How do I use it?
Choose the job. The fields change to match it. Type the sizes, set the Extra / wastage slider, and read the quantity.
What do I type for each job?
- Paint: Wall length (ft), Wall height (ft), Coats, Coverage (sq ft per litre). You get litres of paint.
- Floor tiles: Room length (ft), Room width (ft), Tile length (inch), Tile width (inch). You get the number of tiles.
- Bricks (wall): Wall length (ft), Wall height (ft), Wall thickness (inch), Bricks per cubic ft. You get the number of bricks.
- Concrete (slab): Length (ft), Width (ft), Thickness (inch). You get concrete in cubic metres and cubic feet, and about how many 50 kg cement bags.
- Plaster: Wall length (ft), Wall height (ft), Plaster thickness (mm). You get the mortar volume and about how many 50 kg cement bags.
- Fabric: Length needed (m), Fabric width (m), Pieces, Metres per piece. You get the metres to buy.
What is "Extra / wastage"?
A slider from 0% to 30%, set at 10% to begin. It adds extra for breakage, cutting and spills. The answer says "with 10% extra", or whatever you chose.
Are the cement numbers exact?
No. They are rough. Concrete uses about 7 bags of 50 kg cement for every cubic metre of a common mix, and plaster uses a 1:6 mix. Your real mix, sand and mason's method change the result.
Why does the screen say "Estimate only"?
Because every answer is an estimate. Always check on site and with your supplier before you buy.
Why do some fields use feet and others inches or millimetres?
They match how each job is usually measured in India. Keep the length fields in feet as labelled.
22.10Metal and wood weight
What does it calculate?
The weight in kilograms of a piece of metal or wood from its size, and the total weight for the number of pieces.
Which materials are included?
Mild steel, Stainless steel, Cast iron, Aluminium, Copper, Brass, Wood (teak) and Wood (generic).
Which shapes?
Round bar, Flat / Plate, Square bar, Pipe and Sheet.
What do I type for each shape?
- Round bar: Diameter (mm).
- Flat / Plate: Width (mm) and Thickness (mm).
- Square bar: Side (mm).
- Pipe: Outer diameter (mm) and Wall thickness (mm).
- Sheet: Area (m²) and Thickness (mm).
All shapes except Sheet also ask for Length (m). Then type the Quantity.
What does the result show?
The material and shape, the weight of one piece, and the total weight for your quantity, for example "Qty 10: 24.5 kg".
I see "Wall thickness is too large for this diameter."
For a pipe, twice the wall thickness cannot be more than the outer diameter. Check your numbers.
How exact is it?
It uses standard densities (for example mild steel 7850 kg per cubic metre). Real stock can differ by a few percent, so use it for planning and quoting, not for billing by weight.
22.11Notebook
What is the Notebook?
Your quick notes and work log. It also collects everything you saved with Save to log from any other tool.
How do I write a note?
Type in "Write a note (measurement, job, address, rate...)" and tap Save note.
How do I find an old note?
Type in "Search saved notes". The list shows notes that contain your words.
How do I send or delete a note?
Tap the send icon to send it to a chat (when opened from a chat), or the delete icon to remove it.
How many notes are kept?
The newest 500 saved results. When you go past that, the oldest drop off.
Are my notes backed up?
No. They are stored on your phone only. See 22.1.
The Notebook says "Nothing saved yet."
You have not saved a note or a tool result yet. Use Save note, or Save to log in another tool.
22.12Document scanner
What does the Document scanner do?
It turns paper into a clean PDF using your camera. It finds the edges of the page, straightens the picture, and lets you scan many pages into one PDF.
How do I scan a document?
Tap Scan document, point the camera at the page and capture. Add more pages if you need to, then finish. The PDF opens straight away.
What are the files called?
Scan followed by the date and time, for example Scan_20261102_153045.pdf.
Where are my scans kept?
On your phone, inside KuhuChat. Nothing is uploaded. The list shows each scan's name, number of pages, and date and time.
How do I open, share or delete a scan?
Tap a scan to open it, or use the open, share and delete icons beside it. Share lets you send the PDF through any app, or in a chat.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. On iPhone the tool uses Apple's own document camera.
It says "Could not open this PDF."
The file may have been moved or damaged. Scan the document again.
The camera does not open.
Allow camera permission for KuhuChat in your phone settings, then try again.
Can I turn a scan into photos?
Yes. Use Photo to PDF (22.13) and its PDF to Photos tab.
22.13Photo to PDF and PDF to photos
What can this tool do?
Two things, on two tabs: Photos to PDF (combine photos into one PDF) and PDF to Photos (turn each page of a PDF into a picture).
How do I make a PDF from photos?
- On the Photos to PDF tab, tap Add photos and choose your photos.
- Hold and drag the pages to change their order.
- Switch on "No margin (fill the page)" if you want each photo to fill the page.
- Tap Make PDF.
You will see "PDF ready", with the number of pages and the size in KB. Then tap Open PDF or Share PDF.
How do I remove all the photos and start again?
Tap Clear.
How do I turn a PDF into pictures?
On the PDF to Photos tab, tap Choose PDF and pick your PDF. Each page becomes a PNG picture. Tap a page to share or save it, or tap Share all pages.
Is there a page limit?
When converting a PDF to photos, only the first 30 pages are converted. The tool tells you "Only the first 30 pages were converted." Split a longer PDF first.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The work is done on your phone.
Where are the files saved?
In KuhuChat's own folder on your phone. Use Share to move a file into another app or save it where you want.
22.14Photo editor
What can the Photo editor do?
Rotate and flip, crop, change brightness, contrast and colour, make a photo black and white, draw on it, and add text.
How do I start?
Tap Camera to take a photo, or Gallery to choose one.
What are the four tabs?
- Adjust: Rotate, Flip, Black & white, and sliders for Brightness, Contrast and Colour.
- Crop: Trim left, Trim right, Trim top and Trim bottom, each up to about 45% of the picture.
- Draw: draw with your finger. Choose the Pen size. Tap Undo to remove the last stroke, or Clear drawing to remove all.
- Text: tap Add text, type your words and tap Add. Choose the Text size. Drag the text to move it. Long-press the text to delete it.
Why are Rotate and Flip greyed out?
They lock after you draw or add text. Rotate and flip first, then draw or add text.
How do I save my edited photo?
Tap Save. The photo is saved as a PNG inside KuhuChat, and you see "Saved in the app. Tap Gallery to put it in your phone gallery, or Share." Tap Gallery to also put it in your phone's gallery, or Share to send it.
Does it change my original photo?
No. The original stays as it was. Your edit is saved as a new picture.
How do I undo everything?
Tap Reset all to go back to the original photo.
Can I use it on photos from a chat?
Save the photo to your phone first, then choose it from Gallery in the editor.
22.15QR scanner
What does the QR scanner do?
It scans a QR code or barcode with your camera and tells you what it contains, so you do not need another app.
What happens after I scan?
That depends on the code:
- A KuhuChat link (a shop, hotel or profile page on kuhuchat.com): shows "Kuhuchat page" with an Open page button, which opens it inside the app.
- A UPI payment code: shows "Payment QR" with who you will pay, their UPI id, and the amount and note if the code has them. Tap Open in UPI app to pay in your own UPI app.
- A website link: shows the address first. Tap the Open button to go to it. If the link starts with http and not https, the scanner warns "This link is not secure (http). Be careful."
- Anything else: shows the text, with Copy, Share and Save to log.
Does the scanner make payments?
No. It never moves money. It only reads the code and opens your own UPI app. You pay and confirm in that app.
How do I stay safe when paying?
Read the name on the screen and check it matches the shop or person you mean to pay, before you open your UPI app. A fake QR sticker can show a different name.
Does a link open by itself?
No. A website link opens only when you tap the Open button.
How do I scan another code?
Tap Scan again.
The camera does not work. It says "Camera is not available. Allow camera permission for this app."
Allow camera permission for KuhuChat in your phone settings, then open the scanner again.
Can I scan from a photo in my gallery?
Not in this tool. It scans live with the camera.
22.16Compass and Vaastu
How does the Compass work?
It uses your phone's compass and motion sensors, and corrects for tilt. It shows your heading in degrees and a direction such as N or SW. Hold the phone flat.
Is it true north or magnetic north?
Magnetic north. The screen says "Magnetic north. Hold the phone flat." It does not correct for the small difference between magnetic and true north in your area.
Do I need to allow any permission?
No. The compass needs no permission.
The reading looks wrong.
Move away from metal, magnets, speakers, or a phone cover with a magnet. Wave the phone gently in a figure of 8 to recalibrate it.
What is the field strength shown?
The strength of the magnetic field the sensor reads, in microtesla (T). The screen says "Sensor OK" when it is normal, between about 25 and 65. A reading far outside that means something nearby is disturbing the compass.
It says "Waiting for the compass sensor..." or "No compass data".
Wait a few seconds. If it stays that way, your phone probably has no magnetic compass sensor, and a compass cannot work on it. Try it on another phone to confirm.
What is the Vaastu view?
A switch that adds the traditional Vaastu meaning of the direction you are facing, for the eight main directions. For example, North is Kubera (wealth), North-East is Ishaan (prayer room, water), East is Indra (main entrance, windows, study), and South-East is Agni (kitchen).
Is the Vaastu advice a rule?
No. It is labelled "Traditional guidance only". It describes common tradition, not a scientific or legal standard.
Can I share the reading?
Yes. Use Share, Save to log, or Send to chat. It includes the heading and the Vaastu line if the view is on.
22.17Light meter
What does the Light meter do?
It measures how bright a room or work area is in lux, and tells you whether it is bright enough for the work you do.
How do I use it?
Open the tool and point the top of your phone, near the front camera, toward the light. Wait for the reading. Move it around to measure different spots.
What do the words mean?
The reading is described as Very dark (under 50 lux), Dim (under 150), Normal room light (under 400), Bright (under 1000), Very bright / near window (under 10,000) or Direct sunlight.
What are Lowest, Average and Highest?
The lowest, average and highest readings since you opened the tool or last tapped Reset.
How much light do I need for my work?
The list "Enough light for the work?" shows general guide values: Walking and storage 100 lux, General room work 300, Reading, writing and sewing 500, Fine work such as tailoring, electronics and repair 750, and Very fine work such as inspection and jewellery 1000.
Are these legal standards?
No. They are general guidance only. Phone sensors also differ by a few percent.
It says "Waiting for the light sensor..."
Wait a moment. If it never starts, your phone may not have an ambient light sensor.
Do I need a permission?
No.
22.18Noise meter
What does the Noise meter measure?
How loud it is around you, in decibels (dB).
Does it record me?
No. The microphone is switched on only after you tap Start, and only the loudness number is used. Nothing is recorded or saved. Tap Stop to switch the microphone off.
What do I see?
The current dB, a description, and the Average and Highest readings. Descriptions: Very quiet (under 40 dB), Quiet / normal talk (under 60), Loud (under 80), Very loud with ear protection advised for long work (under 90), and Dangerous for ears, use ear protection (90 and above).
How accurate is it?
Approximate. Phone microphones are not calibrated, so the screen says "Approximate. Nothing is recorded." Use it to compare places or machines, not for legal or safety checks. For those, use a calibrated meter.
It says "Could not read the microphone."
Allow microphone permission for KuhuChat in your phone settings, close other apps that may be using the microphone, and try again.
Can I share the result?
Yes. The text includes the current, average and highest dB and the description.
22.19Speed and trip meter
What does it do?
A GPS speedometer and trip meter for drivers, delivery work and field visits. It shows your speed in km/h, trip distance, moving time, average speed and top speed.
How do I use it?
Tap Start trip. Use Pause when you stop and Resume to continue. Tap Reset to start a fresh trip.
What permission does it need?
Location. The app asks the first time.
Does it work with the screen off or in the background?
No. It works only while KuhuChat is open. The screen says "Keep the app open while driving."
Is the distance exactly the same as my vehicle's meter?
Not always. It is measured by GPS, so it can differ slightly from the vehicle's meter.
It says "GPS signal is weak".
The message shows the signal accuracy in metres. Move to open sky away from tall buildings. Weak readings are ignored so that GPS jitter does not add false distance.
Can I share my trip?
Yes. Use Share, Save to log or Send to chat. The text reads like "Trip: 12.4 km in 00:31:10 moving. Average 24 km/h, top 58 km/h", with the start time.
How is this different from the Trip Planner?
The Trip Planner (Chapter 20) previews a route and places. The Speed and trip meter measures a trip you are actually driving.
22.20Torch
What does the Torch do?
It turns on your phone's flash as a flashlight, in three modes: Steady, Blink and SOS.
What is SOS?
The flash blinks the SOS signal in Morse code: three short, three long, three short.
Does the torch stay on if I leave the tool?
No. It turns itself off when you leave the tool.
It says "Could not use the torch. Close the camera or scanner and try again."
The torch cannot work while the camera is busy, for example when the QR scanner or document scanner is open. Close them and try again.
It says "This phone has no torch (flash) available."
Your phone does not have a flash that apps can use.
22.21Vibration meter
What is it for?
Checking vibration on a motor, pump, washing machine, fan or vehicle, to see if it is running smoothly. You compare it with a reading taken when the machine was healthy.
How do I use it?
Place the phone flat on the machine. Tap Start. The screen shows the vibration strength, a live graph and the Average and Peak values. Tap Stop when done.
What do the words mean?
Almost none, Light, Medium, Strong and Very strong, based on the vibration strength. The strength is in metres per second squared.
What is "Save as Normal"?
When the machine is healthy, measure it and tap Save as Normal. The tool remembers this reading. Later readings are compared with it.
How does it compare?
If the new reading is within about 15% of Normal it says "Same as your Normal reading." If it is higher, it tells you how many percent more, with a hint to check mounting, bearings and balance. If it is lower, it says how many percent less.
How do I get a fair comparison?
Use the same machine, the same spot and the same phone each time. The screen reminds you of this.
Is it a professional instrument?
No. It is a relative check, not a calibrated lab instrument.
Does it need a permission?
No.
23. Privacy, Safety and How KuhuChat Works
How KuhuChat looks after you and your data, and the behind-the-scenes rules that shape your experience. Covers searching in any language, staying safe from unwanted contact, when posts and media are deleted automatically, how your phone number and contacts are handled, what works offline, and the footer added to things you share.
23.1Search in any language and script
Can I search for a name in a different script from the one it is written in?
Yes. Type a name in English letters and KuhuChat also finds it when it is saved in your own language, and the other way round. For example, typing "Paresh" in English letters can find the same name written in Gujarati, Hindi or another Indian script. This is helpful when contacts, members and relatives were saved in different scripts.
Which scripts work?
Devanagari (Hindi and Marathi), Gujarati, Gurmukhi (Punjabi), Bengali (also used for Assamese), Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, along with English letters.
Does it work for Urdu?
Not yet. Urdu names are matched only as they are typed.
Where does this search work?
- Contact search (Chapter 10, item 10.3) and the Contacts list order.
- Samaj search and Pehchan (Chapter 4).
- Group search (Chapter 13, item 13.8).
- Chat search, for messages written in your language (Chapter 10, item 10.11).
- Business search, for shops, products and services (Chapter 14, item 14.7).
- Diary search (Chapter 18).
- The order of names in the Family Tree (Chapter 5).
Does it change how names are shown?
No. Names always appear exactly as they were written. The matching is used only to search and to sort.
Why do names in different scripts sit next to each other in my list?
The Contacts list and the Family Tree sort names by how they sound, so "Paresh" and its Gujarati spelling land together in A to Z order, instead of being split into one group per script.
The search found a name that does not look the same. Why?
Spelling varies a lot when a name is written in another script, so the search is forgiving and also shows close matches. Tap the person to check the full name.
Do I need to do anything to turn it on?
No. It works automatically wherever you search.
23.2Staying safe from unwanted contact and misuse
How do I stop someone from contacting me?
Block them. Long-press the person in your Contacts list or your Samaj members list and tap Block. After that you cannot message each other, and you stop seeing each other's wall, family tree, business, status and radar pins. They are not told that you blocked them. See Chapter 3, item 3.6.
Does a block work both ways?
Yes. Once either of you blocks the other, the two of you are treated as blocked everywhere in the app. You can unblock from Blocked Users in the menu.
Can a stranger join my Samaj or see my Samaj?
No. To join a Samaj you register with your caste and native village. From the 4th member of a village, a village admin must approve you first. Admins can also ask you to verify your identity, and two admins must agree before a request is rejected. See Chapter 1, item 1.5.
Can anyone add me to a group?
People who create a group can add the contacts they pick to it. Later additions come as an invitation that you can accept or reject. If you do not want to be in a group, you can leave it at any time. See Chapter 13.
Can I control who sees my posts on the wall?
Yes. New posts on your own wall wait for your approval and appear to others only after you approve them. See Chapter 9, item 9.3.
How is the Samaj Gallery kept clean?
Posts can wait for approval by a village admin, admins can delete posts from their own origin village, and members can vote to remove a post. See Chapter 7.
How is Matrimony kept safe?
Interests are sent and answered inside the app, contact details are shared only after both people accept, and you can block or report a profile. You can also delete your profile whenever you want. See Chapter 6.
Can someone keep sending me matrimony interests?
After you reject an interest, the sender has to wait before sending another. See Chapter 6, item 6.6.
What stops fake ratings on businesses?
Each person can give one rating to a business, can change it but not stack it, and cannot rate their own business. See Chapter 14, item 14.12.
What limits are there against misuse of group requests and OTPs?
A person can send at most 3 group hotel requests a day. The login OTP also has limits: too many tries in a row shows "Too many attempts. Please wait a few minutes before retrying," and the daily SMS limit can show "SMS quota exceeded for today." See Chapter 1, item 1.1.
What happens to an account that breaks the rules?
It can be banned. A banned account sees a screen with the reason and a Logout button and cannot use the app. If you think it is a mistake, contact us from the Contact page on kuhuchat.com.
Is my business verified?
Businesses are verified with government credentials, and a business appears in the verified Business Circle only with at least 2 verified credentials, including PAN. Unverified shops are shown separately and are marked Unverified. See Chapter 14.
How do I report a problem?
For a matrimony profile, use Report. For anything else, contact us from the Contact page on kuhuchat.com with the person's name, the place it happened in and what you saw.
Why do I not see a "report message" button?
At the moment reporting is available for matrimony profiles. For messages and other content, block the person and contact us.
23.3When posts and media are deleted automatically
Does KuhuChat keep my posts forever?
It depends on where you posted. Some things are deleted automatically to keep storage small and your feeds fresh. Save anything you want to keep before it expires.
What is deleted and when?
- Chat photos, videos, voice messages and documents: about 30 days after they were sent. The file is deleted from our storage.
- Samaj Gallery posts: about 90 days after upload.
- Wall posts: about 15 days after they were approved, along with their photo, video, voice note or music.
- Doors on a wall: 5 days.
- Voice status: about 12 hours after you record it.
- Voice messages left for someone (the inbox): 2 days.
- Reminders: they are removed a few minutes after they go off.
What is never deleted automatically?
Radar pins stay until you delete them. Your Diary threads, your family tree, your matrimony biodata (until it expires, see Chapter 6), your business, your khata and notes stay until you delete them.
Do deadlines run exactly on time?
No. Deleting is done by scheduled clean-ups that run every hour or once a night, so something can stay a little longer than the time above.
What happens to a chat message when its media expires?
The photo, video, voice message or document is deleted from our storage. You can still see that the message existed in the chat, but the file cannot be opened any more.
How do I keep something from a chat?
Save it to your phone before it expires, or tag it to your Diary (Chapter 18).
How do I keep a wall or gallery post?
Save the photo or video to your phone, or tag the post to your Diary before it expires.
If I delete a post myself, is the photo or video really gone?
Yes. Deleting a post also deletes its photo, video or voice file from our storage, not only the entry in the app. If the first attempt fails, the app retries it later so the file does not stay behind.
What happens if a pending gallery post is not reviewed?
A gallery post still waiting for approval after about an hour is published automatically. See Chapter 7.
Why does my app badge change on its own?
Counts for wall posts and pins are re-checked every hour, and posts that have expired are removed from them. See Chapter 2, item 2.3.
23.4Your phone number, contacts and data
What is my phone number used for?
It is your login and your account ID. You can use KuhuChat only with your mobile number and a one-time code, and there is no password.
How does KuhuChat find which of my contacts are on KuhuChat?
It turns the last 10 digits of each number into a scrambled code (a SHA-256 hash) and compares the codes. Your account also holds a scrambled code of your own number, so friends can be matched without KuhuChat showing a plain list of numbers.
When does contact matching happen?
After you log in, KuhuChat may sync your contacts automatically. It does this at most about once every 12 hours, never on every app launch. You can also sync by hand with the Sync button in the Contacts search.
What if I do not give permission to read my contacts?
The sync is skipped and your chats and groups still work. You can allow it later in your phone settings.
Does the website version read my phone's contacts?
No. A browser cannot read your phone's contacts. It shows the contacts that your phone has already synced.
Are my chats private?
Messages and media links are encrypted with AES-256 and protected in transit. They are not end-to-end encrypted, because the keys are managed by KuhuChat so chats can be restored on a new phone. Do not share bank PINs or passwords in any chat. See Chapter 10, item 10.14.
Who can see my phone number?
Only what you choose to share. In your Samaj, admins of your village can contact members for verification, and the admin screen shows admins' phone numbers to members who are waiting for verification (Chapter 1, item 1.5). In Matrimony, contact details are shared only after both people accept an interest.
Does KuhuChat record my voice or location in the background?
The Noise meter in the Toolbox uses the microphone only after you tap Start, and records nothing. Location is used only for features you open, such as radar pins, nearby business alerts, trips, the speed meter and location sharing, and live location stops when its timer ends or you stop it. Nearby business alerts need background location, which you must turn on yourself.
How does a hotel payment keep my card safe?
Payment happens on a secure form run by our hotel and payment partner. KuhuChat does not see or store your card details. See Chapter 21, item 21.5.
Who holds my photos and videos?
Photos, videos and voice notes are stored with our media storage partner, and your account data and messages are stored in our cloud database. Deleting a post also deletes its file (see 23.3).
How do I delete my account and my data?
Follow the steps in Chapter 2, item 2.8, or read Chapter 24 for the full details of what is deleted and what is kept.
Where can I read the full privacy policy?
On kuhuchat.com, in the Privacy page linked from the footer.
23.5Offline use and caching
Can I use KuhuChat without internet?
Partly. Chats you already loaded stay on your phone, so you can open and read them. Sending, receiving new messages, maps, hotel booking and most live features need internet.
How do chats work offline?
KuhuChat keeps a copy of your recent chat messages on your phone, like most chat apps, so a chat opens straight away and does not go blank when your signal drops. When you are back online it catches up.
What happens when I send a photo, video or document with no internet?
It waits in an outbox on your phone and is sent automatically when the connection returns. See Chapter 10, item 10.13.
What do Contacts, Members and other lists do offline?
They are kept in a quick-start copy on your phone, so they open at once even before the internet answers, and then refresh when it does.
Why does the app show old information for a moment?
It shows the saved copy first so it feels fast, then replaces it with fresh data. Pull down to refresh if a list looks old.
Why do my chats reload after I log in?
At login the app clears the chat and contacts copies saved on that phone and loads them again from your account. This keeps one person's data from showing up in another person's account on a shared phone. See Chapter 1, item 1.2.
Which Toolbox tools work offline?
All 20. Only opening a link from the QR scanner needs internet. Toolbox data stays on your phone (Chapter 22).
Does a saved trip work offline?
A saved trip opens without being built again, but its photos and map still load from the internet. See Chapter 20.
Can I free up space?
Clear old chats and media you no longer need, or clear the app's storage in your phone settings. Clearing the app's data signs you out and removes anything kept only on the phone, such as your khata and notes.
23.6The "Shared via KuhuChat" footer
What is the footer I see on things I share?
When you share a message, photo, gallery post or wall post out of KuhuChat to another app, the text ends with "Shared via KuhuChat" and the link https://kuhuchat.com. It helps people you share with find the app.
Where is the footer added?
When you share from a chat, from the Samaj Gallery, from a wall post, and from the full-screen media viewer.
Is the footer added to Toolbox results?
No. Results shared from a Toolbox tool, such as a bill or a quote, are shared as you made them, without the footer.
Can I remove the footer?
It is added automatically to what you share, but you can delete the last lines in the share box of the app you are sharing to before you send.
Does the footer reveal anything about me?
No. It has only the app name and our website, not your name, number or Samaj.
24. Deleting Your Account
Everything about deleting your KuhuChat account: where to find the button, what is deleted and what is kept, what happens to your posts, chats and business, what to expect afterwards, signing up again, and what to do if something goes wrong.
24.1Before you delete
Should I delete my account or just log out?
If you only want a break, log out (see 2.7). Logging out keeps everything, and you continue where you left off when you log in again with the same number. Delete your account only when you want your data removed. It cannot be undone.
Can I get my account back after deleting?
No. Deleting is permanent. If you sign up again with the same number, you get a new, empty account. Nothing from the old account comes back.
Is there anything I should save first?
Yes. Save what you want to keep before you delete: download photos and videos from the Gallery to your phone, and note down anything from your Diary. Your Diary threads, your own wall and your chats are deleted with the account.
What if I am a village admin?
Your admin seat is handed over to another member automatically. Your admin applications and votes are removed.
Does deleting remove the app from my phone?
No. Deleting removes your account and data. The KuhuChat app stays installed until you uninstall it yourself.
24.2Where to find Delete Account
Where is the Delete Account button?
Open the three-dot menu at the top right of the Samaj, Contacts, Social or Business tab. The red Delete Account button is at the bottom of the menu, above Logout.
Is it also on My Profile?
Use the menu on the four main tabs. That is where the red button is.
Can I delete my account from a browser?
Yes. Open app.kuhuchat.com/delete-account, log in with your mobile number and OTP, and follow the same steps.
Can I ask KuhuChat to delete it for me?
Yes. Use the email option on the Delete account page of this website. We confirm it is you and delete the account within 30 days.
24.3Step by step
What are the steps in the app?
- Open the three-dot menu and tap the red Delete Account button.
- Read the warnings on the screen.
- Decide whether to keep your posts, gallery photos and pins (see 24.4).
- Type DELETE in the box. The red button stays off until the word matches.
- Tap Permanently Delete Account.
Why do I have to type DELETE?
So that nobody deletes an account by accident. Deleting cannot be undone.
What do I see while it is deleting?
A progress indicator on the Delete Account screen. Keep the app open until it finishes. A very large account can take a few minutes.
What happens when it finishes?
The app clears the chats and contacts saved on your phone, signs you out and takes you back to the login screen. It also switches off the extra home-screen icons (see 24.9).
24.4Your posts, gallery photos and pins
What happens to my posts, gallery photos and radar pins?
By default they are deleted. If you tick the box "Keep my posts, gallery photos and pins for my Samaj", they stay for your Samaj and show as "Deleted user", with no name, photo or phone number.
What if I do not tick the box?
Your gallery posts, your posts on other people's walls and your radar pins are deleted, with their photos, videos and voice notes.
Can I look at my pins before I decide?
Yes. Tap Review my pins on the delete screen. It opens My Pins, where you can delete some by hand first (see 8.10).
If I keep them, can I get them back later or edit them?
No. Kept posts and pins no longer belong to any account. You cannot edit or remove them afterwards, and a new account on the same number is not linked to them.
Do kept posts still expire?
Yes. Gallery posts and wall posts still expire on their normal schedule (see 23.3). Radar pins do not expire.
Is my own wall kept if I tick the box?
No. Your own wall and your Diary threads are always deleted.
24.5What is deleted
What is deleted when I delete my account?
- Your profile, login, reminders, trips, Mitra data and contacts.
- Your family tree entries, matrimony profile, admin applications and votes.
- Your group memberships. A group is deleted when its last member leaves.
- The messages you sent in group and Samaj chats.
- Your private one-to-one chats, for both people.
- Your own wall and your Diary threads.
- Your gallery posts, your posts on other walls and your radar pins, unless you chose to keep them.
- Your business in Business Hub, and your follows of other businesses.
- Your group hotel requests.
- The photos, videos and voice notes behind all of the above.
Is my login removed too?
Yes, last of all. If any step fails, your login stays so you can try again, and nothing is left half-finished.
What about my family tree entries that my relatives made about me?
Your own tree is deleted. Entries other people made about you in their trees are marked as removed, in the same way as when you remove a relation (see 5.4).
What about my matrimony interests?
Your matrimony profile and the interests you sent and received are deleted (see 6.12).
What about my Diary threads that I shared with others?
They are deleted. People you shared them with are notified that the thread was deleted (see 18.6).
Is my business deleted from the Business tab?
Your business profile and your follows are deleted. If your business was also listed in the nearby directory (Autofind), a listing may still show there for a while. Write to us from the Contact page if you want it checked.
24.6What is kept
What does KuhuChat keep?
Hotel booking and payment records, because the law and accounting rules require it. KuhuChat also keeps one small log entry with no personal details, only a scrambled ID and dates, to show that the deletion happened.
Are my star ratings of other businesses deleted?
Not yet. Star ratings you gave to other businesses are not removed.
Do backups keep my data?
Copies in backups are removed as the backups expire. See the Privacy policy.
Are copies that other people made removed?
No. Photos or messages that other people saved, forwarded or screenshotted belong to them and are not removed.
24.7Chats and other people
What happens to my chats with other people?
Private one-to-one chats are deleted for both of you. The other person no longer sees the conversation.
Why are private chats deleted for both people?
Your number may be given to a new person one day. Deleting the chat for both of you makes sure the new owner can never open your old conversation.
What happens to my messages in groups?
The messages you sent in group and Samaj chats are deleted. You are removed from every group. A group is deleted when its last member leaves, and an admin role is passed on to another member.
Will other people still see my name saved in their phone?
Possibly. A contact name that someone saved in their own phone book is theirs. KuhuChat cannot change it.
Will the last message in someone's chat list still show my text?
It can stay in their chat list preview until they get a newer message.
Will other people be told that I deleted my account?
There is no notice to your contacts. Your chats and your tile simply disappear for them.
24.8Signing up again
Can I sign up again with the same number?
Yes. Log in with the same number and OTP. You see the "What's your name?" screen, like any new user.
What do I get when I sign up again?
A brand new, empty account. There is no family tree, business, groups, chats, wall or Diary, and you must join your Samaj again.
Will my old posts that I chose to keep come back to me?
No. They stay as "Deleted user" and are not linked to your new account.
What if my number is given to someone else later?
The new owner sees none of your data. Everything KuhuChat keeps no longer points to your number or name.
24.9Home-screen icons and your phone
What happens to the extra home-screen icons?
KuhuTools, KuhuBiz Search and KuhuTrip are switched off at the end of the delete, after you are signed out. Some phones take a few seconds to remove an icon.
Does the main KuhuChat icon go away?
No. The main app icon stays until you uninstall the app.
I signed up again and the icons are gone.
Switch them on again from the three-dot menu, Home screen icons (see 2.10).
Does deleting clear my phone as well?
Yes. The chats and contacts saved on your phone, the outbox and your nearby-business alerts are cleared as part of deleting.
24.10If something goes wrong
I see "Could not finish" or "Deletion is already running".
Your login is removed last, so nothing is lost if a step fails. Open the app, log in again if asked, and tap Permanently Delete Account again. If you see "already running", wait a few minutes and try once more.
It is taking a long time.
A very large account can take several minutes. Keep the app open. If it seems stuck, close the app, open it again and tap delete again. It continues where it stopped.
I am back on the login screen. Was my account deleted?
Yes. After a successful delete the app always returns to the login screen. If you log in with the same number and see "What's your name?", the old account is gone.
I logged in again and my old data is still there.
The delete did not finish. Open Delete Account again and repeat the steps. If it keeps failing, write to us from the Contact page with the phone number on your account.
Part of my data still shows for other people.
Kept posts show as "Deleted user". A business listing may stay in the nearby directory for a while (see 24.5). Contact us if anything else still shows your name or number.

Can I delete my data without deleting my account?
You can delete parts yourself: your posts, pins, Diary threads, chats, reminders and trips, your matrimony profile (6.12) and your business (14.2). Deleting the account removes everything together.
Where can I read about how long you keep data?
In the Privacy policy, linked from the footer of this website, and in Chapter 23.
Who do I contact about my data?
Use the Contact page on kuhuchat.com, or email hiren@kuhuchat.com.
