Chapter 7: Samaj Gallery
Post photos, videos, audio and documents to your Samaj, how admin approval works, who can delete a post, the 3-month expiry, saving to your Diary and gallery notifications.
7.1 View and post to the gallery
What is the Samaj Gallery?
A shared photo, video, audio and document wall for your Samaj. Everyone in your Samaj group can see what members post: weddings, festivals, village events, old photographs and notices.
Where do I find it?
Open the Samaj tab and tap the Gallery icon in the icon row. The screen is titled Community Gallery. A badge on the icon shows new photos since you last opened it.
Who can see my posts?
Members of your Samaj group, including any villages your group is connected to at the moment you post. Members of other castes, other villages that are not connected, and people outside the app cannot see it in the gallery.
What if my village is merged with another village later?
Your older posts keep the audience they had when you posted them. New posts after the merge reach the other village too. If villages are separated later, posts made while they were connected stay visible to both sides, and new posts stop reaching each other (see 4.10).
What can I post?
Photos, videos, audio files and documents.
How do I post?
Tap the round add button at the bottom of the Gallery. Choose what you want to add: photos or videos from your phone, a new photo from the camera, an audio file, or a document. You can select several at once.
How do I add a caption?
After you pick your items, a screen shows them. Swipe between them, type a caption (up to four lines), remove any you do not want, and tap post. The same caption is used for the whole batch.
I picked five photos. Is that one post or five?
Five separate posts, one for each item, all with the same caption.
What does the progress screen show?
Stages such as compressing, uploading and saving, with a percentage for large files. Photos and videos are compressed first to save data. You can cancel while it is in progress; you will see "Upload cancelled".
Upload failed. What do I do?
You will see a message such as "Compression failed" or an upload error. Check your internet and try again. If some items of a batch succeeded, the app tells you how many posted and how many failed.
Will my post appear straight away?
If you are an admin, yes: "Posted to gallery!". If you are an ordinary member, you will see "Uploaded - waiting for admin approval" (see 7.2).
What can I do on someone's post?
Like it, comment on it, share it, download it to your phone, tag it into your Diary, or vote to delete it (see 7.3).
How do comments work?
Tap the comment icon on a post. Type under "Add comment..." and send. If a post has many comments, tap "View all N comments". You can delete your own comments. Admins can delete any comment.
How do I share a post?
Tap the share icon. The link is sent with a short KuhuChat footer so the receiver knows where it came from.
How do I save a photo or video to my phone?
Tap the download icon. The first time, the app asks for permission to save files. When it is done you will see "Saved successfully!". If you refused permission, it says "Permission denied - can't save gallery items". Allow it in your phone settings and try again.
What does the caption look like on documents and audio?
Documents show the file name with "Tap to open document". Tapping opens the file in an app on your phone that can read it.
The gallery says "No posts yet".
Nobody in your Samaj group has posted anything that you can see yet. Tap the add button and be the first.
7.2 Moderation and approval
Why do ordinary members' posts need approval?
To keep the gallery clean and suitable for the community. Admins of the uploader's village review new posts from members.
Who are the moderators?
The admins of the village the uploader belongs to (their origin village). An admin of another village in your Samaj group cannot approve or reject your post.
What does an admin see?
Pending posts from their own village appear in the gallery with Approve and Reject buttons. Admins also see these counted on their Gallery icon until they act.
What happens when an admin approves?
The post goes live for everyone in the group and members are notified (see 7.6).
What happens when an admin rejects?
The post is deleted permanently, with its media. The uploader is not sent a separate notice.
What if no admin acts?
The post is published automatically once it has been pending for about 1 hour. The app checks every few minutes, so it may take a little longer than an hour.
Can I see my own post while it is waiting?
Pending posts show for the village admins who review them. You will see the confirmation "Uploaded - waiting for admin approval" after posting, and the post appears to everyone once it is approved or auto-published.
Are admin posts also checked?
No. An admin's post goes live immediately.
7.3 Who can delete
How do I delete my own post?
Tap the delete (bin) icon on your post, then confirm "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this post?". You will see "Post deleted successfully". The photo, video or file is removed from storage too.
Can an admin delete my post?
Yes, but only the admins of your origin village (the village you registered under). They have the bin icon on your post. Admins of other villages do not.
Can other members delete a post?
Yes, through a community vote. Every member can tap the warning icon on a post once to vote. The counter shows the votes so far, for example 3/10. When 10 different members have voted, the post is deleted automatically.
Can I take back my vote?
No. Each member gets one vote per post, and the icon is disabled after you vote.
When should I vote to delete?
For posts that are inappropriate, offensive, false or harmful to the community. Do not vote just because you disagree with someone.
7.4 Auto-expiry of gallery posts
How long do gallery posts stay?
Approved posts are removed automatically about 3 months (90 days) after they were uploaded.
What is removed?
The post and its photo, video, audio or document, to keep storage under control. Comments and likes go with it.
How do I keep a photo I love?
Download it to your phone with the download icon, or tag it to your Diary (see 7.5). A photo or video tagged to your Diary is kept for as long as it stays in the Diary.
When does the clean-up run?
Once a day, at night. A post may therefore stay a little beyond exactly 3 months.
7.5 Full-screen media viewer and tagging
How do I open a photo or video full screen?
Tap it. In the viewer you can swipe left and right to move to the next or previous item. The back arrow at the top returns you to the list.
How do I tag a post to my Diary?
Tap the tag button on the post, or swipe it to reveal Tag, then choose a thread. If the post is already in that thread, you will see a message saying so. If a post is still uploading or cannot be tagged, you will see "This post can't be tagged yet."
How do I tag several posts at once?
Press and hold a post to start selecting. Tap more posts. The top bar shows "N selected" and a Tag button. Tap Tag and pick the thread. If none of the selected posts can be tagged, you will see "None of the selected posts can be tagged."
How do I cancel selecting?
Tap the X in the top bar.
7.6 Gallery notifications and badge
When am I notified?
When someone in your Samaj group adds a post that is live: "[Name] added to Gallery - Added a new photo to Gallery" (or "video"). The poster does not get their own notification.
Do I get notified for posts waiting for approval?
No. Members are notified when the post goes live, either by an admin approving it or after it auto-publishes.
What happens when I tap the notification?
It opens the Gallery.
What does the green badge on the Gallery icon mean?
New approved posts you have not seen. It clears when you open the Gallery. For admins, posts waiting for their approval are also counted until they approve or reject them, or the post is auto-published (see 2.3).
I do not get gallery notifications.
See 2.4. Check that notifications are allowed for KuhuChat, that you are an approved Samaj member (see 1.5), and that your internet and battery settings are not blocking the app.
